What pointing out that failing to beat a team hovering above relegation is a poor result on form? Which it is. -

I'm just very surprised Mike that people aren't more disappointed by a point at a team languishing 12 places below us.. I am not unhappy per se - in fact I'm over the bloody moon with our start, but a few results like this could cost us dearly when we have still to play really good teams away. -

Ok, let's say that there are three games to go and we are top of the league, one point ahead of our two nearest pursuers. Burnley are lying 17th. Would it be a poor result then? -

Someone once told me you shouldn't p i s s on anyone on the way up, because you never know who you might need on the way down. Wise words. -

I do not disagree with a thing you say. Where have I said otherwise. But to pretend a point against a side in poor form is a good one, that I disagree with. For the record, I haven't complained, criticised and I do not own a stanley knife so my wrists are well and truly safe... -

League tables mean form. And we went into the game in top form, Burnley in poor form. On form it was a poor result, that's all I have pointed out throughout the above. Does it matter? Not really today. We're top of the league and the Championship is still in our hands. -

Well spotted Makes our performance all the poorer ne c'est pas? 13 points more than them going into the game... Maybe I'm being hard. But hard people win leagues. And our chairman is fecking hard so he'll be disappointed too... -

Yes, but they don't sit on the bus on the way home and pretend it was a good result... Before today, Burnley had not won a game at home, had scored 3 goals and shipped 5... -

I agree we won't win every week. Let me put this another way. If Spurs had gone to Wigan today and drawn would they consider it a good result? No. Why? Because they still have to go to Old Trafford, Anfield, Emriates, etc. Look, I know it's all a big love in at SMS right now. But we are not immune from playing badly and/or getting bad results. This is not a bad result. It is a poor one. Am I the only person who thinks we could/should have beaten a team hovering above relegation??? I think I've arrived in an alternate universe where nothing at Southampton is anything other than gold plated... I am ECSTATIC with this club and its current form. Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps United will be out drinking champagne if they sneak a point at the Britannia.... -

I'm not carried away. I am monumentally happy with my football club. Unlike the Southampton of old, I am simply not prepared to dress a poor result up and call it spell-binding... I'm sure the players and manager will be in Monday morning anlysing why they didn't win. This is how clubs improve. -

Lordy, why are so many of our fans oblivious to the investment in our squad, form of the players and ambition of the manager and chairman. Have I criticised anyone? No. Is it a poor result on form? YES. If you think otherwise, you are a fecking idiot who ignores facts. -
How hard would it be for Nicky to invite them for lunch, bury the hatchet and see what good they could do for the club together? Every club needs ambassadors.

Cobblers. Burnley were in very poor form, we were flying. Thankfully, the players, manager and Chairman will not be happy with a point against a team lying near the foot of the table. This is a team that has targeted winning the league. We will need better results than this to win the league. -

It's a poor result looking at where Burnley were in the table at 3pm. They'd lost their previous two games, we were top of the league. This is the equivalent of Chelsea drawing at Wolves. -

That's why a Chairman should never talk publicly about his ambition to win the league -
But that's all you have to do. Simple. Every game you invite a rotation of ex players into the director's box. And perhaps you could have a deal with them where they can buy tickets at reduced prices - or at least always get a ticket. Or come for free as long as they host a table in the lounge. Does anyone really object to former players having the odd freebie??? It's a fecking sad sad world if they do...
-
Exactly. If a seat is going empty and people on here would object to Mick Channon or Peter Rodrigues having it, I have a word for them. It rhymes with stunts.

While I don't dispute some people have put their heart and soul into supporting the club, it is a touch different to keeping the club in the top flight for a decade or taking us to our only trophy of note. I used to work in racing. We had (have) many people who receive 'honorary membership' of the RCA (racecourse association) thereby granting them free entry to any racecourse. For example, a major sponsor who supported racing for many years has a pair for him and his wife. He is also regularly invited as a guest to various boxes and events. In return, he talks nothing but positively about the sport, always brings other potential sponsors to meetings and generally continues to support a sport in promotional/marketing terms that he once supported financially. Most people in sport understand this deal. It's not about 'freebies' - it's about loyalty, gratitude and PR.

I know we have exchanged views on this before, but I would say these are the following stoppages that could benefit from video evidence: 1. Penalty decisions. 2. Sending's off. 3. Goal line technology. 4. Goals (there have been goals given where the ball went WIDE of the goal or not given where it went IN the goal - I can name two from last season). 5. Fouls where a player is seriously injured. In each of the above cases there is already a stoppage. What difference would video evidence make to the stoppage? Football is not a continous game when a referee is pursued for 30 yards after a controversial decision. All we are doing is ending this unsightly behaviour and replacing it with an accurate (more often than not) decision, surely??

I'm not sure you ever have to be so - it's just that some people choose to be. There are, thankfully, some people who rise to the top without being so and who have never had a bad word to say or said about them. Sadly, they are rare... -

I don't think in truth he even said that CL was his ambition. This is what he said: "I see Southampton as a top-six Premier League club. "Would I pay a player £100,000 or even £200,000 a week? "Not if we were in the Premier League with a 32,000 capacity stadium. "But if we were in the Champions League and had re-developed the ground to 50,000 then I might consider it." That is a very reasonable ambition but all some people have read is Champion's League. What they don't see if the difference between - I want to meet and marry a good looking girl, and I think I might land Kylie Minogue... -

Totally. Which is why I always say I neither like nor dislike the guy - it's irrelevant. What's relevant is we are top of the league and for that he deserves admiration, congratulation and gratitude. I don't like Ferguson much if at all - but it doesn't stop me lauding him as the best manager of the modern era, possibly all time. The fact he refused to speak to the BBC all those years didn't stop him being the above. -

You're right. If the rules of the Premeirship changed and a club south of Winchester had to be in the Champion's League, I'm sure we'd make it... Seriously, things do change. And I hope the rules on borrowing change to even things up for us. BUT - they won't. And hear's why they won't. Because the most indebted football clubs in the world include Manchester United and Barcelona. And Madrid. And while Everton got into the Champions League in 2005, when did the Arabs buy Man City?? And who else might be other clubs? The opportunity for us to reach the CL is there - IF and only IF we are prepared to spend an inordinate sum of money to get there.
