I love this forum. Pardew mullered for long ball. Now everyone wants us to abandon playing football for the long ball from Davis... -
A bit like Adel Taarabt without the temper tantrums

Brilliant observation. -
Then posting it on a thread not linked to two people who DID work for SFC might have given a clue... It wasn't directed at your post but the continuing people on this thread who say that because they pay an organisation for something, they are more entitled than those who work for the organisation, or that just because someone has been well paid for a job they suddenly have no rights to any form of loyalty or perks, does my head in. Pay/remuneration reflects what someone contributes every day. Post-employment perks most often go to those who contributed something above and beyond - not always but most often. There's nowt wrong with that in my book. If that was too forcefully communicated then I apologise. Onto your general point, freebies and perks for most people are given as a trade - and the sad reality of life is that those with most to trade will get most perks. I don't like it either...

MLT is on an internationally watched sports channel with millions of viewers around the world. Tell me, who does Stelling support? Ask any football fan. They will tell you. What do you think that is worth to Hartlepool United? The same as it's worth to Southampton. You know as well as I do, that MLT put Southampton on the map for lots of people in their 30s and 40s who can remember him lighting up the Premiership and being disgracefully overlooked for England duty. Other fans see him and are reminded of that and what a great little club we were/are. For older fans the same is true of Lawrie - I had calls from mates after a programme on the 76 Cup Final remembering what a shock it was - it too put Southampton on the map. This is what any right-minded marketer of note knows about past success - it has an instrinsic value today. A couple of weeks back I was at Goodwood with John Surtees. I think you'll find he last raced in anger in about 1972 but guess what, half a dozen manufacturers of cars he drove and some he simply used to own invited him - FOR FREE. Shocking...

Because: 1. They are given as gratitude for a job well done. Can you imagine the scenario in which Sir Bobby Charlton was asked to pay for a ticket to watch Manchester United? 2. They are given on the basis that the recipient understands the deal - they help to promote the club positively in the press and among their friends/contacts. This really isn't hard. You shop in Tesco all the time. What do you get? Shopping. You work in Tesco what do you get? 20%+ OFF your Tesco bills. Jesus my missus used to work for a bank. Guess what she gets, FREE banking! Either we have the naivest least intelligent fans in the world or people are being deliberately obtuse or thick. I had the good fortune to work for a sporting institution for just over a year. Result, they invite me to events whenever they have a spare ticket or little bit of hospitality going which they have don't have someone more important to invite. Net result? I am extremely grateful and in return have introduced hospitality, sponsorship and PR to the sport. This is not hard. Do I feel I should pay every time because I can afford it? No. Do I phone up and abuse it? No. It's a trade. Every grown up knows the game.

And how exactly did he celebrate? Ah, he didn't.

Marmite is a spread Adrian, not a source. I thought you student types would be up on these culinary marvels...

I don't think you can judge anyone who mgiht be able to get their hands on £25k these days....

I think what we are seeing here then is the reality of Nasty Nic. He invites a dozen fans to a forum - a nice little dinner - to ask anything you like about the future of the club. Said fans turn up and are treated to a half decent roast from St Mary's best chef. They enjoy a couple of glasses of Chianti and some fava beans... And not one of them is alive to tell the tale. Cortese the murderer!!!!

It can't have happened or you would have heard the results. And the reason you would have heard is why these events take place. That's how PR works. No point having your story and telling it to no one...

I would have thought the horse's head on your pillow was enough to indicate what the Chairman and I have in common...

Indeed, but we can make a HUGE statement of intent over the next couple of weeks. If we come through it on top, some will raise their game before they face us. Others will have lost before they exit the tunnel.
-
Au contraire. Tell that to Sebastian Vettel.

These fixtures will define our season. Bring them on!

Maybe I'm weird but I expected us to be top. We have money, we have a great manager, we have a Premiership infrastructure, we signed Jack Cork, we have the best player in the league (Adam) and we are riding the wave of confidence that comes from promotion. This could all backfire of course, but we are where we deserve to be. Long may it continue. (Especially as I'm clutching my 14/1 each way)

Great results but would you really ask a semi-nude Rihanna to get off yer farm?

Palace always were my second team!!!!

I would LOVE it, LOVE it if he came here... He would tear up this league.
