  1. A bit generous, he will lift it over the bar from 3 yards out with only himself to beat. Still the rest of the game he will be a threat and a great foil to Lambert except when the latter is taking all our set pieces and Papa will unsettle the Norwich defenders with his unusual attempts at beating the offsed trap. Get so far forward he is outside the line of the lino's vision. Norwich to win 1-0.
  2. I would move the mirror in that case. I won't post again until I have become acquainted with a ladies private place if that is relevant to intelligence and vests are an imperative in these days of spiralling energy costs, so I suggest you change yours from string to thermal. Remember to clean up that sick you know what Kim and Aggie told you.
  3. Good thread DPS and to be honest I would prefer a culture of questioning some actions or motives of NC/ML as more beneficial than the current appetite this forum has to discuss all things Pompey. They have their reasons for buying the club and in football terms we do look like a rare beast in that we could actually represent a successful investment and NC /ML recognised that fact. Yes we should thank them and continue to show thanks but they do not need to be as benevolent as some owners of other clubs and therefore as Weston Saint pointed out it does not mean we simply have to roll over and have our bellies tickled like a bunch of lap dogs. They have on balance done much good but personally I have 3 concerns, 1 of which, buying 2 CB's and not a CM last month, is probably more a concern with Pardew. The other 2 issues I have is Cortese banning of the Echo over what appears to be a non-event (discussed at length elsewhere) and perhaps more importantly his recent poorly worded and timed press release regarding promotion being more important than cups and how disappointed he has been with our league performances. This did seem an apparent change in the patient strategy of earlier in the season as the play off place was now seemingly escalated as a priority one year ahead of plan. Cortese's statement was in direct contrast to Pardew's assertion that he chose to concentrate efforts on the cups knowing promotion was not realistic. Also, given the fans reactions to reaching the JPT final it seems Pardew is more in tune with supporters than Cortese and in any event shouldn't we be concerned that manager and CEO are seemingly not using the same hymn sheet and it looks following the Solent fans forum earlier in the season Cortese has changed his hymn sheet and not told anyone or doesn't have much of a clue about this league. Insisting that our league form gets back on track away to Norwich is IMO the equivalent of pushing Pardew out of a plane as it flies over the central Amazon and telling him to find his own way back but forgetting to give him a parachute. I have a right to question his actions as he and ML have a right to build and protect their original investment and frankly it would be naive not to question why you would ban the press over such a minor incident and not explain it and to suddenly change a plan that we had all bought into forward by one season and undermine the excellent ground work we have done to date. In days of old our resident conspiracy theorist, Trousers, would have had a field day with this, in the absence of understandable reasoning. We have to get out of the mindset that they saved the club ergo they can do no wrong and we must never question them. They are hard nosed and successful businessmen not gods. Thanks to the club and the goodwill they bought with it I think they will do very well during their time here but that doesn't mean they can simply treat us all like sheep or simply do what they like without explanation. Good debate like I said but I won't be 'sucking up' anything but try to assess everything on its merits and comment accordingly.
  4. I can understand your logic but he is not in the David Fairclough class of impact subs. I would reserve the entire JPT budget for another quality lynchpin in Central Midfield and if that means sacrificing Waigo the so be it. Hammond has been a massive miss and he is certainly not back to his best before his injury. In the scheme of things your estimate of his value seems a tad high and I wouldn't pay more than a nominal fee, if any. I would venture his club will be pleased to get him off their books so won't be to fussed about price.
  5. Really, lets hope the easy chances fall to Lambert and not Waigo but it will be the latter as Ricky doesn't have the pace to get in there and sieze the chance and can no longer be our fox in the box because he is taking all the set pieces. Can't wait for the day Emile Heskey starts taking corners for the Villa, still I suppose we have the deadly Jaidi to get on the end of a Lambert corner. Pardew has a few issues to sort out before we can be confident of getting even a draw at Norwich but perhaps he has a game plan to do just that but if he plays the same starting 11 as for Pompey then we will get well beat. Waigo on the bench for starters replaced by Puncheon in a 4-5-1 and I would also keep Thomas at RB - the rest of the back four I am undecided as to what is our best line up. In CM, Hammond remains a major concern. I think he is being rushed back before he is really ready or maybe just taking time to get back in his stride. Either way some honesty or effort is required but at his best he is irreplaceable and one of our two CB signing should have been sacrificed for the signing of a Hammond MkII. Best case we could be 7pts from relegation on Saturday evening worst case 1pt. Anyone consider the play offs a realistic ambition this season? Lets be honest it never was apart from a brief flirtation before we failed to beat Leeds.
  6. Maybe, I have already said he offers us a variation from the bench when required but as a 1st choice striker then I don't think so and if he is the best we have to partner RL then IMO we have already identified our 1st item on this summer's shopping list. Considering we got Puncheon for about £200k it would have to be less than that and on a 2 year contract at the most.
  7. I agree but then I put a reference in about 'skates' and therefore thought it was entirely acceptable in this Pompey addled forum. Not to mention where possible if people do address me directly I like to make the effort and respond. Bad manners to ignore them and I always make the effort if I can and the post deserves a response provided it's not to derogatory. Then we have a couple of posts that warranted a comment for being very amusing. Still Nick lets not talk about irrelevent posts and post counts.
  8. Who said anything about meandering through the rest of the season. Once safe we will learn nothing except that it was impossible if we simply bust a gut with the current first 11. What is wrong with maintaining the will to win and experiment a little in readiness for next season. Your approach and we learn nothing, Pardew will get hounded for blooding some youngsters and we heinously waste 10 competitive games or thereabouts get a head start on the opposition for next season. Have we learned nothing from last year not to mention the recent years before that? Finishing 8th will be meaningless if we ruin all our best players to acheive it and learn nothing about the rest of our squad. IMO the games will be infinitely more interesting and enjoyable seeing new players get a decent run out than watching a diet of games that the current weary looking first 11 have been dishing out since Christmas.
  9. I agree that we should enjoy our day out to Wembley and look forward to getting safe in the league and enjoy watching Pardew develop the experience and his options in the squad and so we can 'do a Norwich' next year unless Cortese has a brainstorm and decides to ditch Pardew and reach for his own Gunn. What I don't want to see is having got safe waste time and energy on trying to achieve the impossible. It may look possible on paper but we play on grass and since Christmas our achievements on grass have shown the play offs are beyond our current horizon.
  10. No but that is the reality. I think we are very unlikely to go to Norwich on Saturday and do a Colchester and more likely to lose by the odd goal. Brighton are away to Leeds and considering the league form of the latter and Brighton's manager likely desire to be up for the game I think Brighton have a better chance of a result than we do. Finally Tranmere are at home to Orient and that could easily go either way. We are most likely to be 3pts from relegation come Saturday night but of the other ouitcomes we are more likely to be only 1pt instead of 7pt don't you agree? Is my glass always half empty? Depends what's in the glass.
  11. Not at all I consider a nerd an employable and valuable asset.
  12. Doesn't it stop a club who does well in the cup bringing in a player on emergency loan in the latter stages just to enhance their chances of winning the cup? A better rule would be to drastically reduce the number of loan players a team can hold and partly abolish the cup tied rule for the FA Cup only, as it doesn't start in earnest until the transfer window opens in January anyway. Players who play in the 3rd or 4th rounds should still be ineligible to play for another team in rounds thereafter to prevent clubs from building a great squad to win the FA Cup which is unlikely these days but you never know a possible for the likes of Man City or Spurs. However, it would not prevent small teams from trying to improve their minimal chances of success. Trouble is our motivation to change is compromised by our recent experience than any desire to actually change the rules for the greater good IMO.
  13. Agreed after Saturday we could be 1 point from relegation with a 6 pointer against Wycombe on Tuesday.
  14. Thank you, your praise is most definitely the icing on the cake. It's just unfortunate on this occassion the drivel you mention is just your penchant for fruit cake and not sponge. Cutting through the icing I can understand your disappointment but nonetheless try it you may reawaken your sense of taste.
  15. To be fair Gordon my comments truly represent my opinion on Waigo otherwise why go to the bother of trying to enlighten you. The rules of football are the same in whatever country you play even if the style is different and with Waigo we have not been talking about marginal decisions but wondering if he has taken the hanger out of his shirt. We are not talking yards offside but fractions of a furlong. 10 years is relevant because if he had a footballing brain he would be able to adapt far quicker than he has and with a lot less comedic effect and the margin of his error does not account for playing in the Italian Leagues just a lack of recognising a serious problem in his first game and learning to deal with it. That in my opinion lacks intelligence to seemingly be devoid of any recognition of his own problem and be able to do something about it. He waited until his own supporters started a song to basically take the p out of him. Who was it that said all footballers play with their feet but the best use their brain or words to that effect and if Waigo was one of those he would have corrected his problems on day 1 and not halfway through the season. Like I said though, has he learned or are teams simply more aware of his potential threat and have decided he is more likely to be a source of frustration to the Saints than a match winner. IMO two key events have seen our season slip and that is the injuries to Hammond and Connolly and if you want to make it 3 the introduction of Waigo in our starting line up. The last 4 games I have seen at home despite winning 3 of them I would consider we have been at best unconvincing. Waigo is as much to do with that as those injuries and the strange choice of Lambert for taking our set pieces and removing our most potent threat at corners in particular. Waigo is a likeable character but so was BWP except you could argue I suppose that Waigo gave to the skates. Finally, your argument that it is pointless to hold a debate because you consider your opinions more superior than others whose opinions are somewhat wider than your own shows that you are the one standing on quicksand. Your argument is equally without merit IMO and requires a greater leap of faith long term but if you think its pointless then may I suggest you refrain from writing posts that add weight to those who think Waigo is at best hugely inconsistent and therefore a liability.
  16. Sounds more like a good comedian than a footballer.
  17. Very very funny, nice to agree for once.
  18. The technology forum or the last bastion of family values - the dinner table? I like to venture into the dustier parts of TSW now and again it's amazing what you can find.
  19. Are we blaming TVS? Probably has it roots in the rise of football violence more than anything as you suggest with your early experiences. The fact there seems to be no obvious cause makes it all the more shameful and some simply need to grow up and learn how to take a drink or best avoid it altogether. I would like to see the police adopt a level of zero tolerance including those who threaten through a cloud of their own drunken fumes.
  20. No idea, I find teenagers who use these games machines odd enough. Just what a bemused Dad can pick up across the dinner table.
  21. In your opinion. We don't need players with potential we have enough of them we need a straight replacement for Connolly who is a far more accomplished striker than Waigo ever will be. Players with potential but not able to fully fulfill their playing brief are a liability until they do and at 26 Waigo should offer something more than potential and a toothless threat. IMO he doesn't actually think about the game and his comical offsides were and still are a cause for concern as I assume he has been playing for at least 10 years. League 1 must be a culture shock for him but not the standard and if it is he should go back now and with us stopped flirting with the play offs lets use the rest of the season to develop our younger potential in this huge squad. Waigo is, on balance, a liability and has all the hallmarks of being another Saganowski if he gets a contract.
  22. Wes is that you? I think your password has been compromised and we have some Nigerians scamming the forum. Your use of poxy as an adjective twice in the same sentence gave it away as the verbose Wes would never make such a crass linguistic error. Scab was most un Wes like and dirty was also used twice in the same sentence. Until I have confirmation from the mods I am treating all Wes's posts as dangerous subversive spam.
  23. Are your crime statistics per capita? The Gazette use to carry that headline for a sleepy North Hampshire town but these days the stories are anything but quaint and generally reads like a social workers nightmare not to mention a fair smattering of murder, rape, drugs, drugs and more drugs, school failures, needless deaths and so on. The trouble with Southampton it has been redeveloped in isolated pockets without much thought on how a tourist could see the sights in a day. Lets put it this way if i was coming from Europe by boat for a day out or more in our ports I would pick Portsmouth regardless of my support for Southampton.
  24. I thought you were going to suggest I was something that won't flush.
  25. I don't disagree it's like Portsmouth which has been regenerated with real thought and like I said Basingstoke can teach Southampton how to build a shop and leisure complex but worse than both of them is the Oracle in Reading. Basingstoke's Milestones is worth a visit on a rainy day at half term but I think Portsmouth has more to offer actually in the city. The surrounding countryside of Basingstoke is a big if expensive pull. Unfortunately, Basingstoke's major eyesores are well hidden from the public gaze and it doesn't have the sea or the Spinnaker tower and all that history. Southampton though is a spreadeagled mess and you couldn't spend a varied day on foot like you can down at the historic dockyards in Pompey with so much to see and do. You can park your car up for the day and not have to return to it until you have finished to drive home - unless you park it in Paulsgrove allegedly.
