Dread to think what this makes the IOW?

Sounds the most plausible explanation so far and corresponds with the height of football hooligans where it became de rigueur to posture in front of your neighbours or play knock down ginger, whilst not forgetting the miners war of crass stupidity during that period of extreme unrest. What we have established is that we have a few morons on either side who like to make empty threats for no actual reason but only if they have had a shandy - dutch courage I guess. If it didn't involve our club it would be comedy gold as it is - well, it's just an embarrassment.

Thx - like I said my source was less than reliable. Get a bunch of oldies in a room together with a 'nice spread and a lovely drop of wine' then the purpose of their get together becomes secondary. When you get to their age who can blame them they had a great time and kind of wish I had joined them in hindsight.

...and is now waiting for some decent games to be released on it and for a few others to join him online. PS3 is a great blu ray player though with an option to be a nerdy teenager if need be and brag about the number of cod shot in the head or something like that.

Would you sign Papa Waigo N'Diaye on a permanent basis?

Not being funny? SS that is hilarious like most football debates it's entirely subjective so how can you dismiss a view different to yours when there are plenty who don't agree with you and have given far better reasons than you for supporting him as is always the case for those being ridiculed for their opinions. The main crux of the argument for those who support Waigo is that he offers us a threat going forward. Well threats become meaningless unless they are carried though for all his threats he has actually offered very little in front of goal and is more often than not caught in possession or offside let alone missing chances in the 6 yard box. I have a theory as to why he has not been caught offside quite so much in the last two games maybe its because our opponents have done their homework and decided he wasn't worth the worry and therefore no need to push up quite so readily. I won't attempt to spell the player's name but surely Pompey's no 14 he of the yellow boots showed Papa a thing or three about finishing, beating the offside trap, pace, movement off and on the ball and delivery. It was Pompey's first sub that beat us and not Waigo being taken off as he had become a liability at that stage and how many chances should a player be given? SS you crack me up, not being funny and all that. -
Didn't work with the Channel Islands and look at their residents. The Skates aren't lazy or arrogant and make the best of what they have.

Irony overload but I guess you are more self-absorbed

I have not had the pleasure of Wymering but I feel for your cousin and I assume at least those who live in the estates of Portsmouth can least go and enjoy the facilities on their doorstep. I have visited the schools in Popley and schools are usually a decent barometer to life in the area.

Fair warning for what followed, thanks. Your final sentence reminds me of a story John Francome tells about his riding days when he use to turn up at a racecourse ride a few horses without any clue as to their form etc and clear off again. He rode one horse at a gaff track like Hereford in a claimer and the trainer asked him what he thought after the race after Francome had pulled him up. Francome said he seemed a bit sluggish but jumped well and given time he could be a nice 'orse. Trainer went into a rage and barked, 'time? How much f u c k i n g time can I give him he is already 11? time?' I don't think at this stage we need players described as 'could be a gem' , ' with the right training'. Our squad is packed with those types of players and we need a few horses for courses and Waigo isn't one of them. -
Been an expensive week or two for Saints supporters so hardly surprising their is much stomach for a long journey and a probable defeat. Our season reignites a week tonight.

I agree, if and its a big if Pompey are closed down the only fair way of doing it is to give Birmingham a bye otherwise the 3 teams Pompey have beaten on their way to the 6th round would have varying levels of claims.
-
I'm surprised because believe you me its a step up from Basingstoke and it's glorious 60's London overspill estates. Pompey has North End but not Popley, Bucksin, Oakridge, Brighton Hill and Winklebury. Still Basingstoke could show Southampton how to build a shopping and leisure complex combined.

How many wins on the trot have Norwich had now? 11 . Plus the team have the unecessary pressure heaped on them and Pardew by Nicola and this has a distinct 'after the Lord's Mayor's show' about it. I think we will be well beaten but the good news we have some very winnable games on our run in especially our last 10 games look very easy all bar Charlton and they are beatable. What price being 1 pt away from the relegation places come Saturday night?

Apparently, ITV did a piece about the rivalry before the game on Saturday and they mentioned the 'dock strikes' according to my less than reliable source of 'silver armchair fans' who seemed to have a rather good time chatting whilst the game was on. If anybody recorded the game and hasn't got round to watching it yet I'd be interesting in hearing what they reported. I doubt though it was anything pre 1960 as I know, like many others, of family and friends who regularly attended games at both grounds.

Sorry, I don't believe a word unless you are as desperate as you sound and can't get another girlfriend.

Benji the trouble is you think everyday is Christmas and everyone else can therefore be written off as humbugs. -
And what do you think would happen if one of your Pompey mates would walk around West Quay with Pompy shirt on? Each city has it's morons. What happens when your Pompey mates are in a group do you suspend your love for hatred? All a tad pathetic and without any meaning isn't it?
-
Felt by many and unexplainable by that same many. There is a growing band of younger fans in Glasgow who support teams because they choose to support that team not because it's catholic or otherwise. At least in Glasgow the prejudice can be explained if not understood but down here its a war without agenda or purpose.

The very definition of irony.

I agree and all this hatred is just a desire to posture with the mob. Half of them don't know what caused the bitterness in the first place and it was nothing to do with football. It's actually embarrassing and shameful to be associated with the idiots on both sides who persist with their hatred fuelled purely by alcohol and the need to feel the ability to be intimidating. Difficult to be intimidated by a bunch of saddo's leaning over some railings shouting at anything that moved and others running at a horse and then running backwards. Truly and utterly pathetic.
-
I agree but please don't tar us all with the same brush. The reality is, if any of these 'hard men' for whatever reason found themselves conversing with a Pompey fan they would act with accepted good grace and friendliness. In fact I don't believe any of the stories on here and if they avoid a good day out seeing everything Portsmouth has to offer just because of football rivalry then they are truly the mindless thugs they like to portray themselves as. I also suspect that none of them could explain the real reasons for the underlying hatred between the two cities which has nothing to do with football as historically both sets of supporters in generations gone by use to actually support the other's team when their's was playing away. I like to see all our local clubs do well and Portsmouth is no exception. There is no obvious reasosn as is the case for Rangers and Celtic although I know plenty of protestant Celtic fans. It is a historic long forgotten issue that has shamelessly been allowed to attach itself to our two clubs and the ensuing mob rule. Scenes on the TV from the weekend were simply embarrassing and it was a case of cringe or laugh. I laughed at the idiots from both sides.

Do people with Downs Syndrome offend you then Keith? Are you jealous they have an extra chromosome? Or several more than your less than perfect self. Portsmouth is an emerging city and I regularly visit as it has everything and all within walking distance. Then again I enjoy visiting Southampton but the regeneration has been less than successful IMO and West Quay a sprawling mass od consumerism. No doubt right up Keith's 'look at me' street.
