That doesn't make much sense. He spent about 3 months performing due dilligence, he would have known all there is to know about the clubs finances. Even after he 'bought' the club he stated that the level of debt was actually low, and that was one of the reasons he was attracted. To me (and I am not educated in all this financial stuff) it seems like he is trying to save face/claw back some respect.
