Just to clarify, I didn't say it was Scvnthorpe Council, I said the local council there. I suspect that the word Scvnthorpe appeared in quite a few emails for a Council providing services there. Both in the subject line and the body of the e-mail. Any good filter would pick this up and block them. The story was widely publicised in the IT press at the time

He'll probably get a bit of grief, but the Valley is hardly cauldron of intimidation.

The thing I struggle with is why everyone seems to be taking note of what Charlton fans have to say about him. Thats one club were he didn't do such a good job. Its a bit like listening to Celtic fans about Strachan, they all seem to hate him now, yet we'd some people here would have him back at the drop of a hat. Also Coventry fans aren't exactly fond of him either. No one talks about his success with Reading and at West Ham having got them both promoted. He was seconds away from winning the FA Cup with West Ham and took them into Europe as a result, which was exactly the same as Strachan's achievement with us. Strachan left on a high with us, who knows what would have happened if he stayed. He obviously saw the writing on the wall. The chances are we still may have got relegated, then there would be people on here telling everyone how crap Strachan was. Don't get me wrong I think Strachan was great for us, and he still probably would be if he came back, and we wouldn't take much notice of Celtic or Coventry fans if they told us he was no good. So why listen to Charlton fans?

The local council there had all their e-mails blocked by a filter and it took them ages to work out why!

Live Deadline Day Transfer Rumours from Daily Echo
Prince Jazzbo replied to ruddick's topic in The Saints
Dont forget he's out of contract so we're not bound by the transfer deadline as far as he's concerned. -
I think you might find we've missed the boat on this one.

Ah fickle football fans. When Sunderland got promoted they thought he was the best thing since sliced bread, and was also voted the best keeper in the CCC. When they got relegated overnight he became the worst. I actually think it took him 2 years to get his confidence back, plus his blunder against QPR at home in his first season didn't help. We all got on his back after that (including me)

They could also say the former Reading Manager. I dont ever recall Strachan being referred to as the former Coventry manager.
-
It sounds like he's playing out of position as a striker. If he's quick he may be better on the wing.

This is just as funny http://www.football365.com/lookalikes/0,17093,8754_5511489,00.html

I agree, at the time of taking this job, Sven had 2 options manage Pompey or become DOF at Notts County. He obviously thought County were the better bet. But, lets be honest if a good European or National job comes along I think Sven will be off. Especially, if real success isn't acheived relatively quickly, the owners could lose interest. With my last sentence you could say the same about us. I think we're different because we're taking a much steadier approach, by not offering stupid wages to player, we paying players what they're worth for the division they're in.

Our lot may be a little better at not getting caught! Also the police seem to be clueless down here.

Or at least get a loan player that is a natural right back.

Friday's announcement is now pre-recorded so that they dont need to keep repeating it. 'We have agreed in principle to buy the club. A period of formal legal and financial due diligence will commence next week'

I reckon it will be below 15k. Many people will be reluctant to go after our last 2 results. Our attendance at the next game will depend alot on tomorrows result.

I was chatting to a bloke at work the other day, and he reckoned Jim McCalliog was one of the worst players we'd ever signed. I really couldn't believe my ears. I reminded him of this particular goal, his goal in the Villa replay, and of course his defence splitting pass to Bobby Stokes in the final. but he still wouldn't have it.

1st Half of the League Cup final v Forest in 1979 0-0 at home to Spurs last game of the season in 1978 Another good memory for me was when we beat sunderland 4-0 or 4-1 at home in 1975/76. They were running away with the league at the time, and we absolutely murdered them and it was on Match of the Day.

Bernie the Bolt from the Golden Shot would probably have more pace than some of ours!

I hope Hammond has signed the damn contract and wasn't there tonite...

Certainly played in the Norwich and Yeovil games. -
What makes you 'convinced' that his plans are not going to schedule?

It sounds like something out of that film 23 or Knowing. 3216549851352496851516546865465488986513154689865132165468898651151565466565656546565988988641155688775662158778999996655998855552148652951448987744 Having interpreted this sequence of numbers I can confirm that we will be drawn away to Barnet in the 1st Round of the FA Cup, we will win 2-1 with an injury time winner from a Lallana shot deflecting off of Pulis' backside.

Is he related to Bernie The Bolt that used to be on the Golden Shot with Bob Monkhouse years ago?
-
Is the bottom half of Paul Hart in a Turkish Bath in that photo? He seems to be sweating rather a lot.

How would you define the history of a club? To me its the story of the existence of a club from its founding until the present day. Part of that history may document successes and failures. A club that has won nothing still has a history. If we said that history was based on what you had won, we would have to say that Germany didn't have a history because they hadn't won any wars. But we all know that that isn't the case
-
What does 'little pedigree and history' mean? Surely every club has history. The number of trophies doesn't enter in to it. If you work on the same lines, by comparing both our history's, Saints have actually finished higher than pompey more times since we were both founded. That includes our time in the Southern League, the old Div 3 south, Div 3, the old 2nd and 1st Divisions. In fact your time in the old Div 1 was probably the only sustained period of time you spent higher than us. Personally I think we are both reasonably successful provincial clubs that in certain parts of their history punched above their wieght, you happened to win the league in that time, we were runners up, but that was when we were up against a club that at that time were one of the strongest, most successful clubs in the history of the game.
