The crux of the argument is ideology - leftwing poverty v rightwing wealth. Ideologically i'm with the TEA Party, however at this precise moment the US and the global economy is so sickly that it won't be able to take a shock to the system. I was at a parish council meeting this week and on the agenda was "the gypsies". Can you imagine an urban council getting away with discussing "the pakistani's" or "the blacks"? Anyway the majority of those on the council are narrow minded bigots and nimby's (like so many on this thread) and it was clear they wanted them gone. The parish council discussed contacting the school to ask for the gypsy childrens attendance records, however the chair suggested that the school might be unwilling/unable to disclose this. It was then decided that the parish council would write to the school and enquire as to whether traveller children put an undue strain on resources and slow other children down if their attendance isn't good. Personally I have absolutely no problem with them. There has been no gossip about them stealing, and i've actually spoken to the matriarch (not sure if this is the right terminology) and she's really nice and they've caused nobody any trouble. When I see her (sometimes walk my dog near their paddock) I shall tip her off as to what they are at.
