I finally had a quick go online last night. The servers seemed nice and stable, which was nice after WaW! and I like some of the new bits like the copycat skill, easier last stand and the bonus points for revenge killing and stopping someone on a streak. Hopefully I'll get a chance over the weekend to get acquainted with the online maps!

Thanks, hadn't considered them, are they that good at 9 - 10 years old? My guess is she might want something a bit bigger, but I'll put the suggestion to her!

The Mrs' car has just been written off by a very thoughtful lorry driver, and the insurance company have settled on a payment of £1500 after excess. There is the possibility of an injury claim, but as the lorry driver was Polish we've been advised that it could take up to 6 months to verify liabilty (even though two policemen witnessed the accident, and considered chatging him for driving without due care and attention). So basically we've got £1500 plus a little bit more if needed to get her a new car. She wanted another Skoda to replace the one she lost, but there's nothing much in that price bracket. What would the assembled motoring experts of this forum suggest in this price range? I suggested a Peugot 206... Thanks in advance!

If you die, just get back up and keep going I was like that with CoD4 which was the first game I played online. I got my arse handed to me on a plate for ages. Then again with Killzone 2, and I imagine the same will happen with Modern Warfare 2. But once you get to know the online maps, weapons etc you'll be fine. I'd also suggest playing mercenary team deathmatch at first because at least half the people in the game are on yor side!

Nah, it's much easier to kill people on this than GTA!

There's no way I can say anything without ruining the plot for others, but it is explained.
-
did you watch the bits between missions?
-
Might be time to add a spoiler warning to the title! I think there's a great plot line and a couple of nice twists in this, but don't want to ruin it for people!

I took the day of to make sure it arrived safely (CoD WAW got destroyed by my dogs when it was delivered!), and to get acquainted with it. Just so happens I couldn't put it down, and ended up (after a good few hours) that I completed it! I still find it amazing that people are finding veteran easy/not too hard. I re-started on the level below veteran last night, and I was really struggling at times even in the second half of the airport mission, and as for the favela... took me ages to get through that! So what's the secret? how do you make veteran seem easy?
-
I think the airport bit's great. It's about time you get to wreak uncontrolled violence on innocent people! Then go round and 'mop up' anything still crawling How long before the uproar over that scene starts though? Still, good to hear 'Soap' at last!

I was going to start another thread about the plot! I thought there were some... interesting things in it Had to give up tonight, started getting the urge to charge around the streets shooting anything that moved! That and after nearly 10 hours straight palying it, I think my eyes are starting to suffer!

quite short, but good ending....

Yep just re-started on harder level as something to do before dinner! psn for those interested - Barfy74. Should be online for a few hourse tonight!
-
just completed! flippin' awesome! The story line is excellent, gameplay is great, graphics (even non-HD) are fantastic. anyone disappointed in the game on any difficulty level has got too high sandards!! imo of course Will be playing online tonight, if anyone fancies it?

Am I really that crap at fps games that I'm finding regular a challenge

Amazon delivered about 11 this morning, and I've Just decided to take my first break That mission in the airport is really going to upset Daily Mail readers when they see their kids playing it! I've only been playing on regular, and have found it a bit tough going at times, and certainly a lot harder than CoD4 on the same level. Ah well, a bit of food, cup of tea and back to mindless killing for me
-
I might pop along to Sainsburys first thing tomorrow as well! I don't want to waste my day off tomorrow or anything
-
I'm hoping Amazon will deliver tomorrow, as I've booked the day off to get acqauinted with it! EDIT: Just had confirmation from Amazon that it's been despatched

For those that might be interested I had the Michel Thomas introductory course on in the car this morning. I did have to skip back a couple of times to remind myself of a few points. But it is taught with a couple of n00bs to the Russian language (one seemed to be much more adept than the other!), and I was making very similar mistakes to them, so the tutor's corrections were very relevant. At times it did seem to take big leaps forward, but that was probably because I was concentrating on driving, hence skipping back to refresh. It seems like a good introduction to speaking Russian, and understanding sentence construction, but it is only verbal so reading/writing may be another issue altogether! I'll definitely go through this introductory CD a couple of times, and then the next level. But beyond that I might look for something that focuses on the written langauage in addition to the spoken.

I'd like to ad this one to the mix... First part: second part: third part: Thankfully the vinyl copy is seamless...

She apparently also has her own range of quilt covers!
-
Thanks for that. If it's mostly or all CD/audio based, I can spend up to 20 hours in the car commuting in an average week so it might just fill the void in the seemingly endless tailbacks! The introductory course is only £8.99 so I've downloaded it and will try next week. Certainly a lot safer than shelling out £170 on the Rosetta Stone level 1 course!

I saw a website that tried to explain this, but it was written by someone with too much knowledge, and not enough ability to teach. Then again, it might just be hard to get to grips with  That might be a good teacing method to employ with me! I can become very focused if there is a threat of withheld coffee! Chinese (Mandarin - sorry Al) is an option I've considered strongly for commercial use, though I hadn't necessarily considered Arabic. I had also considered doing Latin which I've been told can help understand a lot of European languages (sadly wasn't covered at my school!). Where I currently work we do have some strong links with Russian organisations, and we do have a couple of Russians working for us and from that I just seem to have grown to like the idea of studying the language. Having looked a bit more at this Rosetta Stone system, they have split it into three levels, and they offer a "6 month unconditional money back guarantee". If possible, I'm just trying to get an idea of what their teaching methods are like, and how effective they are. I don't know if it's coincidence, but most of the reviews of their products on their website give 5 out of 5

What I find disturbing is that my neighbour's 9 year old daughter seems to be obsessed with Jordan/Katie Price, and seems to hold her as some sort of role model, and not the business side of her character either!

Evening classes are generally no use to me anyway due to the hours I often have to work, hence having to use distance learning (as with the law degree). DSM - I did German and French at school and didn't have too much problem picking things up, so that point about evening classes is probably another reason to skip that option. I guess I'm really just looking to see if anyon has experience of distance taught language courses that they can recommend or not. Though it's useful to get an idea of what other languages people might suggest... BTF - how long were you studying Russian? Was it as incomprehensible as it looks in writing? Baj - I'm going to have a look at the Rosetta Stone free trial stuff this week, if it seems any good, I'll let you know.
