  1. Fine though she is, she's just no Luisana Lopalito though: imo of course
  2. I'm at work so: ping = 19ms down = 26.35Mb/s up = 20.78Mb/s My home speeds also vary quite a bit, between 6am & 7pm they roughly range from: ping = 40ms - 60ms down = 5.5Mb/s - 2.5Mb/s up = 0.4Mb/s - 0.3Mb/s I've put that down to moving from a 20:1 contention ratio (freedom2surf/tiscali/talktalk) to a standard 50:1 connection (Sky) though as previously download speeds were hitting 7Mb/s at off peak times with an average of around 4Mb/s
  3. ok, it seems I may have solved the problem. I tried to install new drivers for the wireless adapter earlier but windows didn't recognise them as being newer. So out of pure frustration I manually replaced the driver files, and bingo I now have t'internet back Thanks anyway.
  4. As of yesterday the laptop was connecting without any problems to my 3Com router and then onto the net. I'm not able to access any other networks at the moment, but am waiting until the neighbours come home to see if I can try theirs. The router's quite basic. As I said above, I've got 4 different OS's onto it so far plus PS3 and mobile phone. If I assign a LAN IP to the laptop it will connect but with no signal strength and saying it's unsecured, even though WPA-PSK is enabled on the router and laptop
  5. saint_stevo: DHCP range is standard as far as I can tell (0.1 - 0.255) I'm only connecting one or two wirelessly at a time, though there are 4 ports on the router (Sagem F@st 2504 I think). I'll give the winsockfix a try. Likewise I think it's the laptop. It is a little disappointing that I can't easily go back to the 3Com router that I have been using, but as long as I've got net access I'm not too worried for now.
  6. I've just got my new router after joining Sky broadband, and so far have wirelessly connected the following to the net: 1 pc with Win Vista Ultimate, Win 7 RC and Ubuntu 8.04 1 laptop with XP pro 1 Nokia n95 1 PS3 all without any problems. My other laptop (Toshiba Sat Pro L10 with XP home) will not connect to the router, let alone the internet though. It can detect the network (plus about 5 others locally) but it just sits there trying to acquire a network address. I have tried everything I can think of in windows, and have even tried using the Tosh utility that is installed on the laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions before the laptop goes out of the window?
  7. I thought the other rumour behind the head between the knees thing was that it was more likely to cause fatal injuries than disabling ones therefore reducing insurance payouts to victims & familes?
  8. I certainly haven't given up caring, probably never will. But the last 4 or 5 years have taught me to expect the worst case scenario, sadly that seems to always happen, and then some The heart says the pompey situation is frustrating, but the head says that it is a no brainer. Let's be honest here, had the situations been reversed who wouldn't have taken delight in rubbing it into the noses of their fans? I mean we all dream of watching someone play Football Manager with our club, don't we? Drooling at the prospect of Sven becoming our manager, and being linked with ludicrous bids for every top player in Europe... Still it's Friday, so there's bound to be some exciting/important announcements today, right?
  9. Same here, I met her after a gig at the Pyramids centre thing in Portsmouth back in 93 after a gig (St Etienne supported by Pulp). Even with a skinful of dutch courage, I somehow managed to turn into a giggling schoolgirl when I met her I think Hobart Paving has been on every compilation tape/cd/flash drive I've ever made, and the London Conversations compilation is never too far from hand these days either.
  10. It was missing SP3, but is now running smoothly with Avira installed. I double checked for viruses with SAV32CLI and it was all clear, so I can only guess that one of the toolbars installed didn't like AVG
  11. Those are the questions that I've had on my mind (sorry if someone's already answered them). I've no experience of administration, but I would imagine that at some point in all of this, Aviva and Barclays have had these assets valued in order to determine what the worst case scenario would be for them.
  12. I should have learnt my lesson by now (never get involved with friends & family computers), but the mrs volunteered me for this, so I couldn't even make up a lame excuse! I couldn't see any other AV/firewall software there (apart from standard Windows stuff). It seemed to be a reasonably fresh copy of XP Pro, the only things I can think may have caused problems were the toolbars in IE7 (Google and theopenworld.com  ). What probably concerned me the most was that it wouldn't even let me get on the AVG website or update servers and wondered if something might have been running that was blocking it? It's the first time I've used Avira (after seeing recommendations on here) and it seems to be pretty good, might give it a try on my lower spec laptop, see how it goes.
  13. I was helping a friend sort out their wireless connection yesterday when I noticed that they had no AV software, so as I normally do, I went to install AVG free on the laptop. Things started going wrong at this point: 1) I couldn't open the AVG site on this laptop, though I could on another. 2) After downlaoding from CNET & installing AVG it wouldn't connect to the update servers. 3) The internet connection then dropped, and would only come back with 'limited or no connectivity' 4) Couldn't even connect to the internet using wired connection I uninstalled AVG and ended up having to use system restore to go back a day or two, and everything worked again, but I tried AVG again (redownloaded too) and the same problems happened. After going through system restore again, I put Avira on and everything worked ok. The scans picked up a few bits of spyware & malware, but I couldn't see anything particularly nasty. So has anyone got any ideas why AVG was totally blocked by this laptop?
  14. I was trying to work out where I got the idea, and I think it was Keith Floyd in Italy, so it's probably based on an Italian variation of cassoulet. Either way, it's blooming nice!
  15. You could try replacing the lentils with pasta and adjust the cooking times as needed, or even try something like Borlotti beans... Which reminds me of another recipe I like (probably nicked this too though). I haven't done it for a while though: Soak a pound of Borlotti beans until they start softening. Boil a pigs trotter (or two) with a generous helping of stock vegetables and herbs until the meat is virtually falling off. Put the meat to one side. Cook the beans in the stock (removing any veg etc first). Once cooked, drain off most of the liquid. Add 1 x tin chopped tomatoes, and a large dollop of tomato puree, spices (e.g. paprika, chili or other preferred spices). Salt and pepper to taste. Remove the meat from the trotters and add to beans and heat through. Pretty much a meal in itself, though a few slices of toast makes for a good beans on toast. The other great thing about this one is that you can pretty much make up the detail as you go along.
  16. I'm sure it was Nigella that I nicked it from  never mind, I tend to pass it off as my own now
  17. Why's that then? Can't be doing with upsetting dear ol' Delia!
  18. Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic: Medium sized chicken 40 medium/large cloves of garlic (Do not remove skins) 1/2 pint of olive oil (extra virgin if possible) Herbs (Thyme, Rosemary, Bay etc) For best results, use a casserole pot that can go on the hob as well as the oven (e.g. Le Creuset). Brown the chicken on all sides using some of the oil. remove chicken & de-glaze pot using wine (white), water or stock. Replace chicken in pot and add garlic and the rest of the oil. Add the herbs and season well with salt & pepper. seal the pot well and put in a preheated (ca. 180C) oven for an hour and a half (or enough time for the chicken to cook...). Do not open the pot until cooked! Garlic cloves should be soft and can be squeezed from their skins to eat. Can be served with roast/mash potatoes, but also with nice crusty bread. Keep the leftover oil as it can be used for other recipes.
  19. Just don't leave a squeezable stress toy on the shelf above your vinyl collection which might burst and cover some of your most prized possessions in crap.
  20. Surely if it's just translation, they can do that concurrently with the Japanese version? I thought with FFX they added some extras into the game for EU & US versions (dark aeons & Penance) which might have delayed non-Japanese launches. For now I'm sticking with April 2010 (ok so still not this year) before I start learning Japanese: http://www.ff-xiii.net/index.php?page=article&article=342
  21. Modern Warfare 2 & Final Fantasy 13 are definites, then whatever gets the most hype after those 2 though ARMA 2 & Mafia 2 look quite good.
  22. I don't think it's a question of how long we can be in administration for, but more the deadline imposed by the Football League. If we are still in administration at a certain date then they can make the assumption that we might not fulfill our fixtures for next season and refuse our entry to the league.
  23. Thanks, I tried both of these over the weekend with no success. As the company are adamant that the DS was fine when it left them, it seems as though it must have been damaged in transit, which leaves me with the option of complaining to the Royal Mail. Anyone had any luck doing the same?
  24. I'm not having a lot of luck with consoles at the moment I've got a Nintendo DS which has recently had the game slot replaced, but now the colours on the touch screen seem to have gone to a 'safe mode' setting (i.e. very few colours). Does this mean that the screen is broken? or is there a hardware reset option?
  25. I've got a 3Com router, probably 3 or 4 years old now, and I've never had any problems with it. Up until a few weeks ago, I'd never really noticed any problems with the PS3 either, the odd issue with my ISP but that's another matter altogether. It just seems a bit too much of a coincidence that the problems started at the same time as the firmware upgrade. to be honest though, if it is working now, I'll just be glad not to have to pay out for repairs/replacements!
