Nope, still no sign of anything vaguely intelligent.

What are you public sector lot up to on Weds then?
Minty replied to JackanorySFC's topic in The Lounge
Agreed on all points. All information that comes out has SOME bias, but at least it's something. -
I have nothing I particularly wish to start right now... there are however plenty of threads that you contribute to where I've seen little evidence of any meaningful engagement from you, and I doubt one more thread is likely to change that trend. I'll keep an eye out though.

My grip is nice and firm thanks, and unless I'm very much mistaken, the Lounge is the place where people are allowed to actually discuss stuff that interests them if they so desire, supposedly without threads being hijacked and trolled by people with nothing to add - like your abuse. Quality debate is not dull - if you have the mental capacity to engage in it. I suspect you're not capable, and hence your idea of things being interesting is to simply shout down any opposing view, but I would love to be proved wrong.

dune - straightforward question for you: Why do you always resort to name-calling and abuse of those with different views to you? Why such utter contempt for anyone who doesn't share your view, and why so arrogant to think you are always right? Or should the question simply be: Why do you waste so much time on this wind-up?

That's the kind of information I like to see - it helps build a picture and adds meat on the bones of what can otherwise be a pretty tedious 'i say black, you say white' argument, with real information seriously lacking. -
Yes, but each one seems to be progression. (by role, not necessarily by club - though he is now joining the top club of his career so far.) lol. That is all.

Well, as i said, I think education has a big part to play and that the government actually stand to gain a lot by including it in the curriculum. It will be difficult but it's not impossible, and arguably the current issues in the world should really help highlight how important it is more than ever.

pap - first rule of business is never to assume that any statutory body or public authority will make any kind of effort to resolve any issue. They won't, unless it benefits them, end of! Even if something is supposed to be paid for by your landlord, ask them HOW they are doing that, and also make contact with the authority they're supposed to be paying, to make sure everything is sorted at both ends, because otherwise your business suffers. As for the liability for rates, to quote Southampton City Council: So, I'm afraid that is quite clear. So, finally, assuming your lease is legally sound, it becomes a breach of the terms of your lease and you should approach them to discuss it, and if the worst case happened, you would have to get legal advice and pursue it through official channels. I realise you've spoken to the landlord and it's good that they've been helpful (probably because they know they're liable), but just thought it was worth clarifying. But back to my first point, NEVER assume anyone else has done what they say they will do, especially if it could affect your business. ALWAYS check and chase.

It's not exactly unexpected for Clarkson to come out with comments like this. IMO, no matter which side of the debate you're on, he's better off ignored because he adds nothing of value. The unions especially should rise above it and focus on the important issues at the heart of the matter, i.e. meaningful debate and negotiation about the pension offer...
-
So, back to the OP. Personally, as others have mentioned, I think most people struggle to look beyond the next year or two, if that. Especially when they're young and pensions are mentioned, they tend to think 'Why do I need to think about that?' It's another reason why I think some kind of financial planning education should happen in schools, because it would have numerous real world applications, from personal pension scenarios, to understanding global economics, to business finance and more. I think it is symptomatic of the modern short-term life and culture, and that most people, be they in the private sector or public, struggle to look beyond the next few years, and beyond their own personal situation. This dynamite combination of selfish short-termism is responsible for a lot of the worlds problems, not just financial ones, and is going to be very difficult, if not impossible, to reverse IMO.
-
dune - UP started a perfectly reasonable thread about PRIVATE sector pensions. So why wade in with such a complete ignorance of the OP and his point? My personal theory is that you're on a permanent wind up and that you're a troll. I probably shouldn't have even bothered replying to you, but given that you told me on the other thread yesterday how you only reply to those who respect your point of view, and you ignore others, I thought it was worth highlighting (again) your complete lack of respect for others.

Public Sector Cuts V Tax Rises For Those Of Us That Pay Their Wages

This thread is getting boring now. Come on dune, you started it, sort it out. -

I'm stunned. I really didn't expect it. -
How many people actually know enough about ALL the sports represented (and the ones on the periphery) to make a meaningful judgement? And even then, it depends on your interpretation of what makes a deserving 'Sports Personality'. IMO, the programme itself is often an interesting review of the British sporting year and celebrates our achievements. That in itself is good enough for me, who wins is a secondary element IMO.

Note however, that I didn't say 'And belittle people you don't agree with.' -

It's easy to take the facts of a story and add journalistic licence and political agenda to it, it's much harder to reverse. So I'd quite like an information source that has none of that to begin with. If it exists. It may not. -

To be fair, I don't think you can expect Mods to suddenly act to protect your self-imposed rules on a thread. Here's a novel idea that works for me on forums like this: Take note and reply to the people who answer your question and give responses that you respect, and ignore the ones who don't. -

Question for everyone else: If someone were to ask you for a link to a website or story with the details about today's strike, and as much unbiased and factual information as possible, so this person could make up their own mind, free of as much journalistic licence and political agenda as possible, where would you direct them? -

lol. So how long before you're talking to yourself on this thread then dune? Oh, sorry, you already are... -

Just out of interest, is there no acknowledgement from dune that public sector workers also pay tax, and therefore also pay their own wages? -
What sector(s) are you going to be applying in? As said above, this is key, as certain sectors require a different focus. Otherwise, agree with above: clear layout is vital, make it relevant but concise, always tailor it for the role you're applying for, to highlight the more relevant bits and reduce the less relevant. If you include a cover letter, a summary on top of the cv is not essential, but sometimes a few bullet points summarising the main reason why you'd be suitable for the role can help no matter. Depends a huge amount on the person reading them and the level of job applied for. Personally, I skim read every page of a cv, unless it's REALLY long, and then go back and read in more detail if I see enough things I like. Key bugbear of mine: cover letters that tell me everything you can do, but with no evidence or examples to back it up. ALWAYS back up what you say with the evidence to prove it. And then expect me to ask you about it.

There will never be a day that the media perfectly reflect the balance of what happens (in football or life). Move on.

But we don't know what the specific complaints are that led to the arrest. End of story. Yeah, this respecting the law thing really is pathetic isn't it? I'm not stressed by it at all and no one can take offence on behalf of someone else because everyone has a different opinion on what is offensive to them or not. Equally, it's not up to you or anyone else to decide what is acceptable to chant or not. That's not my opinion, it's the facts. There are plenty of laws we all disagree with or tend to turn a blind eye to... but you'd have to be pretty thick to knowingly and wilfully break a law when there are police around and you know it is something that has been highlighted as something they would be looking out for.
