  1. Good post. Though I reckon a nuclear exchange is more likely between Iran and Israel than Iran and the US. Whichever way, the worlds biggest oil fields will be f**ked and humanity will be heading back into the Dark Ages. The problem is, what to do about Iran ? Sooner or later its going to kick off with them, the longer its left the more catastrophic the result will be. The US really f**ked up letting their Islamic Revolution gain momentum in the 70s. Someone quite famous said WW3 will be fought with nukes, WW4 with sticks and stones...

  3. I reckon that is utter garbage. Maybe the morale was bad around the time of Bluff Cove or when Atlantic Conveyor and Coventry were lost on the same day (Atlantic Conveyor and its Chinooks was about the worst knock-back during the entire campaign), but defeat ? No way.
  4. Last time I checked it was Typhoons now.
  5. I think you will find that the Falklands can be reinforced a lot f**king quicker this time round via Mount Pleasant airport, and nothing the Argies have can stand its ground against Typhoons. Without air superiority, an invasion fleet would be on the bottom in no time. Excluding the fact that since the oil announcement a submarine capable of knocking out half their Navy in a couple of hours has been on station round-the-clock, a point probably made clear to the Argies by back door diplomatic channels. The reason they managed to get on the island in 1982 was because the UK government dozed off. A few years before during the previous round of sabre-rattling, David Owen sent two frigates and a sub down there and the Argies shat themselves.
  6. Too early to say. But the balance of power in the Middle East changed when the US dealt with Saddam. Iran is now the top dog, and they are going to cause serious grief if left to get on with it. Its hard to see how the US can stand by as the threat grows to Israel. The US really missed a trick before Iran got that reactor going. They should have goaded (or even supported) the Israelis in destroying it, like they did back in the 80s or 90s. This may turn out to be a colossal mistake.
  7. I know what you mean, and it is an argument used often by the government, but its still b*ll*cks. Britain is an ISLAND. Twice in the last 100 years we nearly starved to death and nearly lost the capability to fight back because of blockading by submarines. Are we really going to rely on co-operation with the French (who will say no simply because we said yes), the Americans (never go to war unless there is a profit, and boy did they win out of WW2...) or the Germans (a schizophrenic country that sh*ts itself about contributing to security forces manadated by the UN, but boy do they go to the other extreme as a people when they feel provoked..) ? We've stood alone before, and with the way the world economy and the Eurozone is going, who's to say we wont need to again. The Royal Navy is all that stands between us and barbarism (forget all the jingoism about the RAF, the Battle of Britain and Operation Sealion, several respected historical analyses of the last 10 years have concluded the RN would have dealt with a Nazi invasion force, albeit with horrific losses due to air attack). And when the chips are down you can only rely on yourselves... We need a navy, irrespective of if the empire has gone or not. It amazes me that successive Governments forget the lessons of history.
  8. I got 13, but I am sat here wondering how getting 24 makes you a better citizen than someone like me. Really, who gives a f**k what year divorce became allowed ?
  9. Glad to be so, in this case.
  10. Fair enough. Lets revisit this one in a couple of years when budget cuts have taken their toll.
  11. I dont think so....
  12. This is a complete disgrace. Whatever happened to the right to have your day in court, and face your accusers ? If this really takes this long, he has been living 18MONTHS with this over his head. I reckon I would have topped myself. Besides, how can anyone#s testimony be regarded as accurate and not coached ??? I dont remeber stuff from 18mins ago some of the time. Britian really is a f**king Third World Country. 2 years for a hip replacement, 12 months for ear grommets, 18months for a "fair" trial. Embarassing.
  13. Too late. He hasnt left us anything but pitchforks to defend with.
  14. I think Dune is a class A* pr*ck, but this reaction is a bit OTT.
  15. Considering this c**t sat back and allowed the complete emasculation of the Royal Navy, I am laughing my tits off at "Thatcherite" Fox and everything thats coming to him. A question : are these two actually gay lovers ? There is something a little odd in the way the press are reporting it. Whenever I read about it I get the urge to stick two thumbs up and say "Frrieeend" in that effete In-Betweeners manner..
  16. yep. W*nkers. Still trying to work out the point of the thread though..
  17. I dont think he'd let the England team or fans down; at least everyone knows he would give 100% in a Stevie Bull-kind-of-way.. He might make the grade, international football is a different kettle of fish, and lets face it, the PL prima donnas arent exactly cutting it. Probably would have a more successful international career if he digs into his ancestry and qualifies for NI, Wales, Eire or Scotland though..
  18. Oh dear. You still in a huff at me calling your comment "lazy" ???
  19. So what magical event is going to cause us to start winning 6-pointers from November if we lose all those we had up till the end of October, or for all our promotion rivals to start chucking points away at mid-to-bottom of table crap teams ? Its all very easy to sneer patronisingly, but explain for the benefit of us all how exactly this is going to improve if we have a bad October..
  20. I've already reflected that "make or break" is not a good title, and does not really convey what I meant. Over the next month, we pit ourselves against those teams already around us and are likely to be around us in April/May. At this stage, barring long-term injuries or headline-grabbing transfer activity for any of those teams, the next month will give a strong indicator as to where we are likely to end up in the table.
  21. Then p*ss off elsewhere with your moronic drivel.
  22. Yep, good post. I couldnt think of anything better than "make or break", but of course it makes it sound a bit black-and-white.
  23. Dont know whether to wish him luck or not. I think I would rather that justice be done.
  24. We still seem to weak at CB and up-front for a 46 game season, imo.
  25. I really dont think you get it. After 10 games we are top of the table. Anything less than play-offs now represents a collossal f**k-up. If we lose these 4 games (and 3 of them currently look like 6-pointers), we are on our way to dropping out of the top 6. Simple as that. Those 4 teams will win their games against the bottom-half crap like we have AND will have beaten us. When I wrote in the title "Make or Break", I wasnt referring to the club. I was referring to this season. Now, come early August I was happy (as I said on more than one occasion) with mid-table consolidation. After the start we've had, that would be a MASSIVE anti-climax. I think if the likes of you and a few on this thread are stuck in the "we've done our best, maybe next year" mentality, then its safe to assume its an attitude prevalent throughout the fan base. I am fairly certain that Chairman, Manager and players dont feel the same. They will be looking at the table and the fixtures and fancying their chances if they can get through the next month with a decent points haul.
