To all those who think we can wait for next season for promotion
alpine_saint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
What fuels the arrogance and conceit on display in this thread ? Yes, it is only the f**king Sun. So what ? Does that mean that media speculation isnt going to surround our headline-grabbing performers ? To address the few sensible comments made on here : I reckon it would be easier to hold on to players if we have at least stepped up to the CCC than remaining in L1, so that they are showing career progress. I would like to think the players involved would consider what made sense career-wise, look at failed examples (Surman) and recognise the time might not yet be right for the PL, but is right for the CCC, and will play at level with us or with someone else. I have always said that I remain unconviced by Lallana, I have concerns about where he really fits, and worry that him and Schneiderlin together is too inconsistent, but I have never advocated selling him and recognise that he may develop into something special. But for me the jury is out. More performances like yesterday and I will be conviced. As for Celtic not having a manager, for whatever reason the Sun is daying that Neil Lennon is a strong candidate for the job, and it is clear he is doing a little tapping up prior to getting the job so it doesnt look like tapping up. Personally, I think Lallana would be stark-staring bonkers to go to Scotland. If there is speculation about Lallana, you can bet there will be about Lambert and Schneiderlin. Lose those three, and its square one with all the gelling and inconsistency again. Ergo, we will be scratching around for a play-off spot again. -
The performance was good enough to get the result in this game - happy about that, not fussed it wasnt pretty stuff. Will it be enough against Charlton and Rovers -no, very worried about that. Really so hard to follow ???
-
Considering the amount of bellyaching on here about criticism of team or manager, this doesnt surprise me.
-
I suggest you have a look at the Sun today - at least one SPL and two EPL teams want Lallana. I have always maintained, if we dont go up this season, we will be back almost at square one this summer due to an exodus of our best players. If we do go up, I reckon they would give the club another season to reach the EPL. Its that critical....
-
Any correlation with those that severely underperformed ?
-
Your post is a load of b*ll*cks. I have never given up on the playoffs, for a start. Do you really think the level of performance that ground a result out against Orient will be enough to do the same thing against Charlton and Bristol Rovers ? You obviously havent got a clue about football, then. I havent changed the goal posts at all.
-
Agree completely, very pleased we ground out a result. But we did play sh*t, there is no reason to pretend otherwise. We need this sorted out for next Saturday. Pretending we werent sh*t doesnt help that. However, pointing it out appears to send certain people on here into a fit of hysteria.

Do grow up.

I dont have a problem with this. I would prefer the open-top parade as in 1976, to be honest. Not because I want more pomp, but there is still a job to be done over the next 7 games, and I think doing as you were hoping for would distract from the focus of what are very important games. If the team got the accolade of the crowd, they would sit back and relay in the game even more than they did today. Yes, lets have a celebration, but separate from match day.
-
And they have all been negative - and unecessarily so to boot ? I feel sorry for people who object to any post or person that dares to be less than gushing in its praise for the team. We were f**king awful today, and everyone knows it.
-
This thread was opened very late. I expressed my reaction to the result on the match thread straight after the final whistle. My reputation isnt enhanced when so many are ready to jump to conclusions, is it ?
-
Bizarre. I would love to know when I have ever expressed the wish for Saints to lose
-
Not so a positive sign if the rumour on this thread about several players having a late night last night is true.
-
How did you hear ? I am sceptical, but if it is true, then AP is losing his grip.
-
What sort of "mention" ?
-
I hope AP doesnt try to paint this as a good performance. HTF did Brighton manage to lose to Hartlepool ?
-
We won, for today that is all that matters. But we are going to need to improve...a LOT...if we are going to get something against Charlton & Bristol Rovers.
-
Couldnt care less about the rest of you.
-
Apologies to any practicisng Christian who was offended by my comment.

Jesus wept.......

No, problems with my eldest and his present from the Easter Bunny. Anyway, glad Lallana scored again, but sounds like we have to fight hard to keep this lead.
-
I expect a different Saints team in terms of mentality to appear for the 2nd half. If not, I think I might re-evaluate my intention of giving AP until Xmas. That first half was simply not good enough, what ever background of -10pts and no-pre-season there is.
-
Perhaps AP needs to tell the players that games are 90mins long with a first half once-in-a-while...
-
Despite being regarded as one of the most negative posters on this site, NEVER did I for one moment really doubt we would win today. Frankly, this is an appaling show.
-
I am furious, actually. But hey, I am sure having a pop at me makes you feel better about this inexcusable performance.
