I don't think the situation can be 'sorted out'. We'll stagger past D-Day whilst retaining most of the EU functions we are supposed to be ditching, then spend the next 3 years grasping at straws and cobbling together a 'bespoke' arrangement that satisfies nobody and leaves the UK suffering under the weight of the self-interests of those we are 'negotiating' with.
I suppose this chap thinks DT is doing OK;
"A man accused of groping a woman on an aircraft has told US police that President Donald Trump had said it was OK to grab women."

Membership of Schengen rules it out for the UK.
The issue with the Swiss comparison is the lack of awareness of the people touting it as a viable solution.
I have no idea. I read the quote about the Swiss arrangements being an easy Brexit solution in the Daily Fail letters this morning, ( I did have to disinfect my hands afterwards ), and was fairly certain that the writer was wrong in his/her assumptions, so I checked online.
Was the solution not in the Leave manifesto ? Surely BoJo, JRM, or even Nige had everything worked out when they promised the electorate the Moon on a Stick. Would it not be part of 'We get back control of our borders" ?
Back in March, yes, but now it seems that Trump has had another PR fuelled policy volte-face. ( Mind you. I suspect that many ambassadorial staffs are padded out with 'disposable' people to absorb, and minimise the true impact of, any expulsions ).
It doesn't require US intervention, a simple public condemnation would at least put a 'line in the sand', but it wouldn't fit Trump's 'America First', ( and only ), rhetoric.
