  1. My wife is the MFL co-ordinator in a primary school; they are going to do a project about the World Cup, in French and concentrating on the French speaking countries that are taking part.

  4. "And in the club's current circumstances, any appeal appears unlikely to succeed as Uefa's criteria state that a licence may be refused if the applicant has not met the deadline for lodging audited financial statements, or if the accounts show payables overdue from transfer activities or towards employees. The club have also missed the 1 March deadline to file accounts with the FA by some distance"

  6. What a load of b0ll0x - what it probably does prove is that 2nd & 3rd generation immigrant families, who probably speak their 'mother tongue' at home so as to include the grand parents in their conversations, are having more children than the 'natives' in their particular areas. And it almost certainly also includes those schools in Wales where the pupils would claim Welsh as their first language. Yet more right wing bluster and posturing. There is NOTHING in that article to show that these children are, in fact, immigrants, other than the mention of 10,000 eastern Europeans ( but not of what proportion might be of school age ). When I was at school, we had a lad whose mother was German, and they spoke her native tongue at home, but he was most definitely English.

  9. And how unpopular the current Govt is supposed to be. Even on here the Tories are only 8% ahead of Labour, which would not give them enough for an overall majority.

  16. Another viewpoint: They sent out 250,000 cards as the first phase of the campaign, some of which, landed on the mats of former cancer patients. What is the statistical chance of finding some cancer patients in a tranche of a quarter of a million people ? Who'd have thought it. Bad judgement to send the things out - quite possibly, targetting this group specifically - no.
  17. A comment from a 'leftie', ( as you asked for one ). From reading the entire article, it would appear that the cards are generated from a database used by both Tories & Labour ( "Experian, the data management company, confirmed that both Labour and the Conservatives use its Mosaic database, which divides voters into 67 groups. The databases can use anonymised hospital statistics, including postcodes and the diagnoses of patients, to identify the likely addresses of those with particular illnesses" ). This is not to suggest this is a correct use of such information, I personally think it isn't, but it would appear that there is no breach of the DP Act as the information seems to be some sort of 'reverse engineering' process based on publicly, ( commercially ), available databases. Smells too much of Mandy's cynical dirty tricks department. I bet the Tories are just thankful that Labour used this data first.
