  1. Look, you've made your point ad nauseum; that you don't think that Guly is worth a place in the team and that you don't think he had a good game yesterday. So your opinion flies in the face of the majority who think that he had a good game. You're entitled to your opinion and although a majority counter opinion does not prove yours wrong, howver it is suggestive of that, especially judging by the warmth of the ovation when he was substituted. Although ultimately though, the one opinion that really counts, is Adkins'. Perhaps you ought to send him an email and tell him that his decisions stink and that he ought to pay more heed to your expert opinion. For myself, Adkins' tactics and team selection were spot-on yesterday and the scoreline reflects that.
  2. This was a superb opportunity to inflict a psychological advantage over West Ham and we grasped it with both hands. Because WH couldn't play today we reduced their advantage over us to a single point and then they will look nervously over their shoulders at the demolition job we did on one of the division's most in form teams who have already beaten them away at WH. Play like we did today and we will beat them to move above them and it will only be by winning their game in hand that they will return to the top with the slenderest of leads, a single point. I believe that it is a truism that when we play our strongest team and that they all play well for each other, no team in this division is capable of beating us. And it must be said that this was the strongest team all playing for each other, with a commitment born out of professional pride. Injuries and suspensions had lain us down to our lowest point and a match against a team in such form was a real test of character. Had we lost, it would have been difficult to turn around their losing mentality, but they were able to excuse a poor string of results because of factors beyond their control and recognise and believe that as all key players were back fit, there was no reason that they shouldn't pick up where they left off. Although all of the team put in an incredible shift, a special mention goes to Sharp, who although his goal looked a total fluke, nevertheless seems to have struck up an immediate understanding with Lambert and the two of them will hopefully terrorise every defence in the division. At the other end of the park, great to have Hooiveld back and both he and Fonte looked very assured and did a great job of ensuring that Austin's run of scoring success in every game he has played us, finally came to an end. Also, they also kept the highly rated Rodriguez quiet. Connolly made an impact also when he came on and Lee's cameo suggested that he could add something very different to the mix if required. Interesting to speculate as to what a fully fit Chaplow and Puncheon could bring to the table too. We now have so many potential options to change things about, that it will produce a tactical headache for the rival managers to second guess what we might come up with. The scoreline of 2-0 flattered Burnley. There could easily have been another two or three goals. And on Tuesday we have the opportunity to stuff another team playing in claret and blue.
  3. With you all the way. Pre-season expectations for me were play-offs or just under. But having done so well until the turn of the year, I revised them to automatic promotions. Although we have had a blip that is explainable by key injuries and suspensions, on the plus side is the return of those key players, the signing of Sharp and Lee and the bonus of Puncheon getting his mind in order and having something to prove. A couple of victories and everything will begin to look very different.

  5. I'll remind you of that sentiment when you've gone out of existence. You seem to be increasingly a lone voice amongst the Skates, as even some of them are now beginning to realise that the situation looks to be quite grim. You've had fake sheiks, penniless arabs, gun runners, Russian mafia, loan sharks, as owners in the recent past. So what are you wishing for during the next few weeks? The Fairy Godmother to come onstage and wave her wand? For Skate fans to come out of the shower (those that wash) and realise that it was all a bad dream? Have you heard the expression "he who laughs last, laughs longest"? The fat lady is just warming up her voice as we speak.
  6. What reputation is that, Storrieteller? Capability to take a club and make it the first in British footballing history to go into administration in the Premiership? You must be really proud of that reputation.

I know that Wikipedia is not the fount of all knowledge, but bearing in mind what you say, they have obviously got this all wrong:- "Second wind is a phenomenon in distance running, such as marathons or road running (as well as other sports), whereby an athlete who is too out of breath and tired to continue suddenly finds the strength to press on at top performance with less exertion." Long ago in my youth, I used to do long distance walking, on several occasions over a 50 mile distance and certainly second wind was something that I often experienced.

Have you never heard the expression "second wind"? In long distance races, the ideal position to be in coming in to the home straight, is on the shoulder of the leaders and capable of a sprint finish. We aren't on the home straight yet, but it remains to be seen whether we have the sprint finish. I believe we will have.

If there are no individuals who have cause to feel down because they let the team down, then why should the team feel flat, especially those who played no part in yesterday's match? It is Adkins job to make the team focus on the sole target for this season, which is promotion. I believe that he is a good manager from the point of view of psychology. How far were we expecting to go in the Cup as a second division team, anyway? After all, even both Manchester teams are already out. Adkin's approach of drawing a line under the last match and concentrating fully on the next one is spot on (apart from the line being blue). Thank God that the sort of negativity sometimes shown on here is not part of his make-up, or his task would be a lot harder. After all, if you start off from a position that a target is not achievable, then you are already halfway to not achieving it.

Put him on ignore, Ginge. The forum is much more enjoyable when you don't have to endure the drivel that emanates from his puerile, infantile little brain. It's a pity though that there is no device that prevents one having to see his comments when his remarks are quoted.

Well, I suspect that as the Adkins comments came shortly after we had lost the game when Millwall scored in the last minute of the match, it was probably a gut-reaction, no different to my own. With the benefit of a good night's sleep, I have a more sanguine take on it and I'm sure that Adkins does too. Anyway, what was he to say in the interview? Thank God that the cup is out of the way, so that we can concentrate on the league? He might actually think that, but cannot say it, lest he be condemned for not taking it seriously, therefore upsetting fans who made the effort to turn up on a bitterly cold winter's night. Personally I don't think that there will be a confidence issue with the team, half of whom did not play. In fact, several of the players might well take heart from their own contributions last night. Lallana is getting back to his best. Lambert will have had a boost from his goal. Chaplow and Barnard will have relished the opportunity to get some match fitness. Martin again did well. Young Reeve will feel that he has acquitted himself well. Lee gained valuable experience of a full-blooded FA Cup match. The existing first team players like Fonte, Harding, Hammond, have no reason to reproach themselves for their performances. Other first team regulars like Schneiderlin, Fox, Cork, etc, will be chomping at the bit to get stuck in to the next match, as will Sharp. Who did you feel would be the players whose confidence will have taken a knock?

Please don't quote the imbecile when he has nothing constructive to say. He's clearly a wind-up merchant and I have him on ignore.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about. Regrettable to go out of the cup, of course, but ultimately we used the match as a vehicle to blood in a couple of youngsters and to give a run out to players returning from long term injuries. Had the priority been to progress further in the cup, then we would have fielded a stronger team and consequently have risked our chances in the league because key players were over-exerted. We can have our cup run when we are back in the Premiership. At the moment it is all about concentrating on promotion and the cup matches are a distraction. I really can't see how some posters can't just look at the situation from the next match, going forward from there. The position is that as the team in second place in February, a position that very few would have predicted with any conviction at the start of the season, we have strengthened in the January transfer window. Most would have had Sharp high on their list of desirable strikers to bring in and Lee is a bonus. Other significant plusses are the return of Chaplow and the emergence of Puncheon, almost like a new signing, with something to prove. Martin has grown immeasurably since Hooiveld's injury and Hooiveld is close to returning himself. Where is there any weakness in the squad? What would the wrist-slitters have been saying had they been West Ham fans, after they got tonked by Ipswich? So they came back to beat Millwall at the weekend and we would have beaten them too had we played our strongest team. Shortly we have the opportunity to reduce WH's lead by 3 points when we play them. Other teams fighting for the top two spots will also take points from each other, suffer injuries and suspensions. We now probably have better cover than most in those eventualites. This league is like all the others, a marathon and who amongst us would have grabbed your hand off if offered this position at this stage?
  15. What's this "we" you mention? As far as I can see, it's only you, p*ssing in the wind with your Department of Guesswork statistics. I can now see why it took you so long to respond to requests for something concrete to base your premise on, that we would be in trouble if the Liebherrs were to pull out. Let's just have a short look at how you phrase it all and pull out a few words and phrases, which is instructive:- Given, would have been, must have, what about, wouldn't you say, so what are they now?, would have been, wouldn't have come cheap, rumours, what about, do you really believe?, so I think.... So what sort of opinion might contain those sorts of words and phrases? Yes, conjecture. Our reading of the situation regarding the Skates is at least backed up by the parlous situation that you find yourselves in, when any Skate fan with half a brain cell is getting a bit worried that you might go out of existence. Your little theory is based on nothing concrete at all. And you signally failed to answer several posters who have asserted that should the Liebherrs pull out, that Cortese has sufficiently good enough contracts to take over from them. Mind you, we are not talking the sort of people that were attracted to your rotting carcass like flies to sh*t, but more probably decent businessmen, who prefer to go about things in a correct manner, rather than by utilising the proceeds of wealth acquired through gun running, or money-laundering.
  16. I've already asked the Ho (twice) to provide us all with the factual evidence that he would need to have in order to conclude that we would be in trouble if the Liebherr family pulled out. This info that would be required has been listed by him earlier, such as our current debt levels, percentage of wages to turnover ratio, etc. Perhaps he'll address this with his last remaining post of the day. But I'm not holding my breath. I don't think that he has any idea.

  18. And for David Price and others. Of course, at the time when Milligan first stood when David Price retired, he was tipped as man with a bright future in politics, but naturally, had I had your prescience and could have forecast how it would all end, then I would have had a different perspective. Much as the Winchester Lib Dems selection panel would have had, if they had known that Oaten had a hankering after rent boys. He was also tipped for the top too. As was Huhne of course and he had gotten as far as challenging for the party leadership. How fickle is the political world when such rising stars can crash to the Earth in such a scandalous way! Must be something in the water down here when two neighbouring constituencies can produce three (if Huhne is found guilty) bye-elections because of their MPs' pecadiloes
  19. Do you infer that I didn't know that? I actually canvassed for him during his election campaign. As I say, Huhne will suffer a similar electoral backlash to that experienced in the bye-elections after Milligan and Oaten and much will be made of Huhne's election literature purporting him to be a happily married family man.
  20. Because you're the one making the assumptions that we would be in trouble if the Liebherrs were to pull out, the onus is on you to answer those questions. Because unless you do, your contention that we would be in trouble, is based on nothing concrete at all. So come on, Ho, we await your response with bated breath.

  23. The Conservatives have a very personable and able candidate in Maria Hutchings. As mentioned, if Huhne is found guilty and there is a bye-election, the Lib Dems will suffer an electoral backlash similar to those experienced by Stephen Milligan and Mark Oaten.
