The consideration of the contract would change hands (player and money) on the contracted date (1st July 2014). This never happens though, too much risk on Chelsea's side (injuries etc).

The players we are getting rid of don't add squad depth as they aren't good enough and aren't better than the youth players we have in coming to replace them. The amount of waste we have had over the last 18 months paying these players has probably cost us £10m. This is just sensible efficiency savings. People need to calm down and wait and see.
