At least with the midweek game, it means less time for all of their Portsmyths to get an airing. Wonder how many times we will hear of: - the mythical strike breakers - how they sent us down in 2005 - the list is endless

I will never forgive the shambles of 2005, in a season of lows we put in the most pitiful performance. I refused to attend Lundekvam’s testimonial because of how pathetic he was here. Niemi had fallen a long way, as had a number of others who had been in the FA Cup final just two years beforehand and Europe the season afterwards. Crouch crying off in the warm-up. Redknapp waving. Makes me sick thinking about that game. The next time we met, we lost by the same score line but the performance was the complete opposite. We actually gave them a good game in the FA Cup, if it wasn’t for David James’ heroics we would have taken the lead. That Lambert goal brought some noise in St Mary’s that day and the score line flattered them. We pushed forward and they brought on a sub who they’d somehow managed to sign despite bankrupting a few charities and local businesses along the way. A bit of 2010 spirit mixed with some Ings 2019 finishing is very wishful thinking.

I mixed up my years and at first I thought that we were on the same tally as the season we made the playoffs. Instead, it was the same as the year we survived relegation on the last day of the season. The first pitch invasion at SMS I think after the 3-2 win over Sheff Utd? -
I think we beat Spurs in 2001 on Boxing Day, 1-0 the return of Hoddle and Richards, then we beat them in 2002/03 season the next year at home (a similar time of year) in the league and then smashed them in the FA Cup - we were great that day. A random memory, Fulham away on Boxing Day 2012/13, we drew 1-1, but there was a great rendition of OWTS, not the slow version - that sticks in my mind.

Yes, three very different goals. The classic striker back to the goal turn and shoot, dribble past players before excellent finish and long range inch perfect lob. Maybe being pre-premier league era is a factor as well as being little old Saints means it doesn’t get more coverage.

Amazing to know that the best Saints player in my lifetime, my boyhood hero, was loyal to our club throughout his career and then scored the last ever goal at the Dell. As David Baddiel would say, Matt Le Tissier is quite simply unbelievable.

Yes, I seem to remember something about the in-laws. And we had someone on here, a Luton fan from Southampton (or something like that), who gave us great detail about Jones , how good he was, how tech savvy he was that he used a PowerPoint to woo players into signing.
-
We drew his first home game. Can’t remember if he was in charge for an away game before that.
-
Wasn’t some of it homesickness and he changed his mindset after being released though?
-
We managed to sign someone on loan that couldn’t get into or improve the worst team in the league. Ridiculous.
-
Because he’s not a good enough coach/manager. The team don’t look physically fit and seem to have no idea of the game plan, what they are supposed to be doing and his substitutions make us worse.
-
Even Juric beat Swansea and Martin as well 5-0. I don’t think it’s a huge ask for a Southampton manager to beat them.
-
Play 4-3-3 to add another striker and we’ve got “score a goal Neil Shipperley”

I remember having that feeling with Pellegrino very early on. When things just don’t feel right, likewise I’m happy to be wrong on this but like Jones did, Still has had a long time to prepare the team and we’re not seeing any sign of things improving. The players don’t seem any fitter, they don’t seem well drilled on roles, set pieces not well planned, where is the high press we were told about. Pochettino came in at a time when nearly every fan was baffled by the appointment but we could see what he was trying to do in his first game. It would look terrible if the club got rid of another manager so I can’t see them doing it but if the players aren’t responding and we know how good a number of them are at this level then it’s got to be the manager unfortunately.
