    Cortese V Lowe

So far, I fail to see any reason to doubt Cortese. Too many on here seem to have built up a distrust of anyone in the role of chairman. I wouldn't have made all of the same decisions, but to date Cortese has done nothing to warrent this level of fan distrust. The Echo tiff seems to show a strong chairman, and a desperate local rag. The ticket prices seem fair. Removing installments should have been better communicated. The booking fee should definately be dropped. But these things are minor compared to the progress we have made and initiative Cortese has shown. It concerns me when other fans criticise with so little evidence. Why the Cortese hatred Dune? Is it because he's foreign and doesn't have a shaven scalp?

  3. If this decision has been taken as an attempt to clamp down of defaulters who continue to use the tickets, does this mean that the club has decided against electronic turnstyles? One of the benefits of an electronic system would be that tickets could be automatically 'deactivated' upon failure to pay. On a different note, this thread has some of awful patronising posts, which seem to only have been written just to incite a reaction. While 0% credit cards are a possibility for some, many with worse credit histories won't be eligable. Likewise, while this has undoubtably been a PR disaster, any business has the right to change their pricing policies as they see fit. If you want to buy a car, but the local forecourt drops their 0% finance, you can chose to take your business elsewhere. I can't afford to run a car, let alone buy a season ticket. Just like with anything else I might want to buy, if I can't afford the price, I accept that I can't have the product. I instead only end up going to about 6-8 games a season, I get to pick and choose the more interesting games, spend less money, and get to shuffle non-football social events into my calandar. I know it's not a palatable thought to many, but it's not as bad as it might seem at first, and if enough people were to do similar, the club would be forced to consider other ticketing schemes.
  4. As shirt sponsor deals are usually across multiple years, and Championship clubs can command significantly higher fees, perhaps Cortese has calculated that more money can be made by not having a sponsor (so long as we are promoted).

  6. I would like to register a complaint. Due to non-action by SFC, many fans are earning interest on cash saved for season tickets, which might otherwise have been earnt by the club. Exploit us more efficiently FFS. Would have never happened under Lowe.
  7. Of course, if the owners have enough money not to care about taking a hit then they can play hard ball... Kick up a fuss son and you can spend the next 2 years training alone without a game. From what we've seen of Cortese so far, it wouldn't suprise me.

  9. Licka, Potter or Kosowski (sp)?
  10. Not as easy as you might think. I've been wracking my brains and am still short of quite a few.. Forwards: J Jordan, Paterson Midfield: Mcann, Quashie, McCalliog Defence: err... Telfer Keeper: Martin Perhaps somebody else might fill in the blanks for me.
  11. Pendant (I should have been a bit more accurate)
  12. 44 in 282 (or 0.15 goals per game)
  13. Close. Glenn's 39 in 358 (0.108 ) came second to Sydenham's record (see above) Keegan's 0.525 (42 in 80 games) comes third in the last 40 years. Ron Davies (left in 1973) just pips Keegan with 153 in 281 (or 0.544 goals per game). Keegan ends up with the 15th highest goals to games ratio of all Saints players scoring more than 30 goals.
  14. Lambert is correct at 0.62 goals per game (36 in 58 ). He is currently 6th in the all time goals per game (for Southampton players with more than 30 goals), behind: Wayman (1947-50) with 77 in 107 (0.72) Haines (1928-32) with 47 in 71 (0.66) Drake (1931-34) with 48 in 74 (0.65) O'Brien (1959-66) with 180 in 281 (0.64) Milward (1899-1901) with 40 in 63 (0.63) Oakley is a good call. His 20 goals in 310 games give an ratio of 0.06 goals per game. He hasn't scored 30 goals so I dismissed him from the calculations... ... but I'll let you have it, as Oakley does have much worse stats than the answer I was looking for, John Sydenham, whose 40 goals from 402 games gives him a ratio of 0.099 goals per game.
  15. Chaing Mai seems to have captured your attentions. I can see why, it's a beautiful city, that feels much smaller than it really is. I guess thats something to do with the old moated town centre. It's a joy to wander about in, and is full of experiences, and plenty of tutorials, to learn massage, cooking or language. I found it good to escape the old town and walk to the east where the evening food market comes into full swing (also some good resturants down by the banks of the river). My advice CL, is if you love Chaing Mai, get yourself to Luang Prabang, it's even more relaxed & beautiful (but with far less of the go-go scene).
  16. Much as I'd like to know where we preseasoned in the sixties, or what Pilchards means by JVC (as in the ex Arsenal sponsor?), I'm stumped. I know I'm out of turn, but seen as nothing has happened in 40 mins, can I ask the following question(s)? Charlie Wayman holds the record for most goals per appearance for Saints with 77 goals in 107 games (a ratio of a goal every 0.72 games (all comps)). Out of the players who scored more than thirty goals for Southampton, who: a) has the lowest goals per game ratio? b) has the highest goals per game ratio in the last 40 years? (Both only including players who scored more than 30 goals for Saints... so not Claus or Benali... )
  17. One of the NE teams, Middlesbro or Newcastle I think
  18. Problem is this rocket greyhound question is too vague to google... hense we are all now stuck... Any chance of a clue?
  19. Blimey... I saw his Ajax strike rate and assumed he had to be up front...
  20. Looks like we were lucky not to sign him - he only got 4 in 46 for Panathinaikos.
  21. Torbjörn Nilsson?
