Matthew Le God Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Despite playing for English national youth sides, Jake Thomson has decided to change allegiance and play for T&T the home of his father. Maybe we will see him at a world cup now http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article_news?id=161498663
The9 Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Saw this on 606 a few days ago. Sort of strange but also logical. He's better than about half their team, too... I wonder if Stern John had anything to do with putting the idea into his head? Can't hurt for Thomson to get some international experience anyway, even if it is only CONCACAF and the highlights will probably be losing to USA and Mexico. aberdare Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Bugger...another one lost to international duty then... Interesting take...... So far from being happy that Saints may have a player who is good enough to play WC football for T&T you are more worried that we may have to play without him, despite the fact no one on the "what team Saturday" thread wanted to include him? aberdare Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Sorry, forgot the at the end....subtle humour was never my strong point So cool, he doesn't feature in any line up you are suggesting though, so presumably you don't rate him?
Matthew Le God Posted 1 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 1 July, 2009 I think he's great and will play a big part this season hopefully. Very good crosser of the ball.

More likely to be that I didn't put a huge amount of effort into my team selection TBH....no, I think he's a good player, especially at League 1 level. He did well for Bournemouth so should hopefully do well for us in similar circumstances.

It is probably evident from my comments that I agree with you, as to date have the England selectors from U15-U18, I hope he gets a decent opportunity. I don't however see him ultimately as playing wide.

Rasiak-9- Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 No, I mean it. Mate he's fallen over almost every chance to cross the ball he gets and if by some minor miricle his foot makes contact with the ball when he's within 10 yards of a corner flag it always ends up going behind the goal - he can't cross for **** and i've had a ST last year so believe me i know
stevegrant Posted 1 July, 2009 Share Posted 1 July, 2009 Will possibly mean he is away for Southampton games during the season as CONCACAF fixtures don't match Coca Cola League One's Dunno if you've spotted, but we don't get UEFA international breaks off in League One either. Not sure if there's still a ruling where you can postpone games if you get a certain number of international call-ups...

It's only 2 players required to get games called off, even the likes of (now-Conference) Wrexham rarely had games on International weekends due to the Wales U-21s !! We might want to keep an eye on those international fixture cancellations though if they're away games with people booking travel etc.

I'm not going to argue that he hasn't matched that in the first team though, he's been disappointing, even when not asked to play at right back behind Ryan bloody Smith.
