SoccerMom Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1721123,00.html This has got to be good news, for him and for the team. I'm sure that his season at RB will have benefitted him no end (way too many lightweight midfielders out there), but given the choice I'm sure he'd be happier and more productive back in his Reserves role. I agree but Henderson experimenting now will have little relevance until the new manager is in place. Tactically we are in limbo.
Chez Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 he stood out a mile at centre midfield in the youth team, but if he is going to play there this season it will be like starting again as he has been learning the right back role for 12 months. Wouldn't that depend on how the players did? By that I mean that if Gillet, Banana and James have a few stormers, wouldn't most managers come in and build around that? (big 'if' there, I know...) Window Cleaner Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Gillett and James holding central midfield with Lallana free in front of them would be good, but he'll probably leave. Schneiderlin could do it though. a midfield that probably weighs about 200 kilos all up will be no use in League 1.I think you'll find that if we get a decent manager Gillet will be in the reserves, bad player. Arizona Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 I'd play James at RM. Him and Gillett wouldn't have enough weight for L1 IMO. Get Pele back.
ottery st mary Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Pele is exactly the right player for Saints in centre holding mid field.

Clearly you're talking rubbish. SG is quality, especially in this league.

There are about eight players that need replacing before Gillett.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Gillett has been one of our best players! It's strange how some people see the games. I think him; Spiderman and Lallana could make a good midfield trio. I agree we need some strength and size in the team for Lg1 but the whole team doesn't need to be made up of Sunday league Bruiser just because they have a few pounds. Lg 1 isn't rugby. I'm sure Barca would do ok in lg1 and they don't have a midfield 'enforcer'.
Andy_Porter Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 Not convinced Schneiderlin is ready to play everyweek in League one and I seriously don't think we should be playing a 5 man midfield again, will just be far too negative at home. Would be ideal to bring on Lallana for a striker to see out a tight game but starting that way would be a step backwards. Davis Murty Thomas Perry Mills Lallana / James - Depending on opposition Gillett James / Wotton / Schneiderlin - Depending on opposition New fast left winger - with Lallana or James on the right we need a pacey outlet on the left whos going to stay wide. Holmes would probably do ok there but can't be relied on at all. Paterson Rasiak I'd much rather play a 4-4-2 like that than 4-5-1 again, we simply don't have the players to suit a 4-5-1 imo, not enough goals from midfield, no real wingers and Rasiak isn't very good on his own up front. Gobern on the left? Not exactly heavyweight - he and Paterson remind me ever so slightly of young giraffes. But fast. McLaggon on the right, when he's back? So looking forward to him showing Dyer how it's done.
Andy_Porter Posted 14 July, 2009 Share Posted 14 July, 2009 I forgot about Gobern, i'd probably have him as our first choice left winger, he's certainly grown over the summer and seems to have found a yard of pace, might be better off in the centre where we lack a bit of height. McLaggon is promising, how long untill he's back from injury?
