spyinthesky Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 I read somewhere that Alan Knight, the ex Pompey 'keeper, was awarded a MBE in 2001 and I think Steve Bull may have been similarly rewarded for his time at Wolves Now I have no objection to this as we should all support club loyalty where ever that may be However this brings in to sharp focus the constant overlooking of Matt Le Tizz for a gong, a man who achieved far more in the game than Alan Knight and does lots around the local community. Any one know what the procedure is to put Matt's name forward? Separately what about the reported gifts of £150k watches being given to the poorly paid Man City players!! I honestly thought it was gonna say "I think Steve Bull may have been similarly rewarded for his devotion and dancing for Saints" But no, MLT should not get an MBE, he should get a knighthood

Sheff Saint Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 It's ridiculous MLT never gets anything given he's a very very rare symbol of loyalty in a money obsessed game. Not to mention being a great player, lighting up the premier league and doing a lot of charity work around Hampshire. Amen. Annoying isn't it. I recorded 'The 50 Best Prem Goals Ever' which was on Sky 2 last night. I've not seen it yet but i bet Tiss only gets about 2 or 3 goals in there when he should have 10. And afterwards there was a show called 'Rooney's greatest goals' Now, i quite like Rooney but has he scored enough goals let alone great goals, to warrant that show? paulwantsapint Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 MLT has always has & always will get overlooked for awards Although after last motd dec 94 they had a highlightes of the year without MLT was gutted till Des ended with comment like " most people opt for a gloss finish but we love a Matt finish " then 90 secs dedicated to MLT

oxfordshire_saint Posted 16 July, 2009 Share Posted 16 July, 2009 I didn't realise they dished out MBEs to woman beaters, then I saw that Alan Knight received his before he slapped his missus about.

Actually it would have been Tony Gubba who is so legendary you are not even sure of his name I do remember the MOTD you refer to but could not have said who presented it. chrisobee Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 We had a similar discussion a while back about Micky Channon who given his success as a race horse trainer as well would be even more worthy of an MBE or higher. The concensus of opinion was that he would surely have been asked but must have turned it down though why is the question. Quite possibly too modest to accept it ? In fact I even started a FB group for him to be given a knighthood !! http://www.facebook.com/chrisobee?ref=profile#/group.php?gid=47155005228&ref=ts Though in the interests of given credit where due as posted on that page: "In fairness the idea came from Durleyfos on TSF as below! Since he did not know how to set up a group and I did I nicked his excellent idea Originally Posted by Durleyfos That's given me an idea for a Facebook group - 'Get Mick Channon Knighted' If I knew how to start one... It must have been an accident. Surely if he'd meant it, he would have flapped and missed?

I stand corrected on the spelling but it was definitely him who presented that programme. I should have added that the Matt finish bit was all in the service of naming the great man - Le Tiss that is, not Gubba - as MOTD's 'Man of the Year'. Yes, I was just amused that having called Gubba legendary you then got his name wrong ! Just appealed to my SOH ! But I do now remember thanks to your posts the programme and it was somewhat of a rarity for MOTD to finish not with our game that day but with a tribute to Le Tiss !! Fair enough though I was actually being a tad ironic using that description for Mr G...which perhaps partially exonerates me But yes it was a welcome rarity indeed
