Saint Charlie Posted 1 September, 2009 Share Posted 1 September, 2009 If I remember correctly the emergency loan 'window' opens a few weeks after the August transfer deadline. Therefore, if we havent brought anyone in today, apart from Jaidi who is a free agent, we cannot get any new players (free agents aside) for a few weeks. If we wanted players in certain positions it would be pretty poor not to get them and have to wait a few more matches before we have them. With the squad already carrying some uncertainty (Schneiderlin, Saga etc), the end of this window seems to have left more questions unanswered than solved. Whilst Lambert was a great signing, if we were only going to spend a certain amount, it seems odd to put all (nearly all) of this towards one player. I am sure we will sign a few emergency loans who will turn into permanent signings in Jan but to be honest we can't even afford to wait for two or three weeks, can we? Minsk Posted 1 September, 2009 Share Posted 1 September, 2009 I think you will find the 'loan window' opens one week after the permanent one shuts.

Still, after the OS said today was looking like being busy it is a bit disappointing that nobody has come in.
saint lard Posted 1 September, 2009 Share Posted 1 September, 2009 I posted this on another thread,i feel it is applicable to this one also........... I'm sure i will be shouted down but i really don't like the fact we are having to rely on loans. Loans are not commited to the club or the cause. We have, due to financial restraints, had to rely heavily on loan signings the past few years, the number of loanees amongst our ranks has swelled considerably. I personally think this fact has also contributed to our dramatic fall from grace. All Imo.

Hopefully by then we'll have got ourselves together and with the help of a couple of loans put ourselves into a more progressive position...therefore slightly more attractive to decent players for fee's. that's my take on it anyway. Some loans work out (i.e. Richard Wright, Guthrie, Jack Cork, JPS, Rasiak and Saga, etc) whilst others don't (I won't bother listing all the the failures if you don't mind). I think certainly in this day and age loans and part and parcel of football - even a lot of prem clubs have them. Also, just about every team who has been promoted from any division did so with loans in their sides. So I really don't feel it makes much difference (especially as we ONLY - check out other teams - have 2 loans in at present).

Yeah I agree with you! Also, in terms of players coming in, we only really seemed to be signing out-of-contract players on freebies anyway (Lambert aside), so there's no reason why AP won't snap up a few more in the coming weeks. The time for re-assessment will be January - if we are in a decent position with a possibility of play-offs then I'm sure some cash will get splashed and if not then I'm sure it will be next summer that we see the money as promotion next season appears to be a must for all staff and fans
