Dr Who? Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Is this the highest league position Saints have been in since 1988/89 season? Do not think we have ever been top of the Premier League, but do remember when we were last top of Division 1, in the 1988/89 season. It was the season when I think we won our first 4 games and we were top, then we went to Arsenal and we were 0-2 up in the last 10 minutes but only drew 2-2 after 9 minutes of stoppage time! Davis broke Cockerill jaw, and we went 21 games without a win in the same season. The win in the end came in the last minute against Newcastle at the Dell with a Ruddock Pen a couple of games before this we took the lead at Hissborough in the last minute only for them to go straight up the other end and score from kick off. We were then unbeaten in April, after not winning from November - April Fools day, can you imagine this board back then going 5 months without a win, if we do not score after 5 minutes people seem like they want to top themselves! I would love to see what it looks like again to be top of the league without doing my own league table. I still think we will be top by the end of January!! We will see, but as long as we finish in the top two I could not care a less. Would be nice to be Champions though!
Matthew Le God Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Is this the highest league position Saints have been in since 1988/89 season? 4th out of 92 on Boxing Day 2003 is more impressive than 46th out of 92 on New Year's Day 2011 tbh
SNSUN Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Getting out of this league is 100% essential, however we do it. I'd rather not have to rely on the play-offs though. It is good to see us so high up the table though, there's a distinct lack of quality in League One this season, we've got a team to show other teams how it's done. Top two if we keep playing like this. Maybe even as champions.

I was just wondering if we have ever been top of any league since and if so when as I do not remember, but someone earlier did say that we had been top of the Premier League, but do not think this has happened, as the Skates went top the season they came up with a lunchtime win over Villa. I know at the time this really got my back up!

I will say we are where we are and looking at the table makes me smile, until I see who is above us, and how terrible they were at SMS. You cannot argue with their home form though. Still think we are going to win this league.
Didcot Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 We are the best team in this League without a shadow of a doubt. Adkins took over at 4th from bottom. Now second and we have just battered two very competitive League 1 sides. We are on a roll (Brentford excluded) and the outcome is to me a foregone conclusion. The League 1 trophy presented to a packed SMS against Walsall on the last day of the season.
paulwantsapint Posted 2 January, 2011 Share Posted 2 January, 2011 we were top of prem after about 40 mins under hoddle at derby went on to draw 2-2 does that count? is this not our highest position in football pyramid since admin?
stockportsaint Posted 2 January, 2011 Share Posted 2 January, 2011 ... is this not our highest position in football pyramid since admin? That's the significant point in all this - highest position since Admin/relegation from the CCC. However we are only 3 points off 10th, so let's not get carried away just yet. Matthew Le God Posted 2 January, 2011 Share Posted 2 January, 2011 is this not our highest position in football pyramid since admin? No, because Saints were in the Championship whilst in admin during April and May 2009.
