Gemmel Posted 21 February, 2011 Share Posted 21 February, 2011 Seeing the Channon goal again (And not suggesting this is one even comes close) but whenever I think about Saints best goals, I always go back to a cold midweek night against Luton at Kenilworth Road, in what would have been around the late eighties, early nineties and an absolute cracker by Cockerill from an impossible angle, in injury time to earn a replay (Pretty sure it was the league cup).... Of course we cocked it up back at the Dell and lost to a Steve Foster Goal (I think) but I have never seen the goal since, I can't find anything about the game online and starting to think I imagined the whole thing. Does anybody have remember the goal or even the game!!
Dr Who? Posted 21 February, 2011 Share Posted 21 February, 2011 We lost 1-2 and Rod Wallace got one back very late in the day. Foster did get one and did Stein get the other one? I know all the goals came in injury time..... broke my 15 year old heart! Do remember the goal but cannot find it, have looked before.

If i remember rightly it was Rod Wallace got penalised for running with the ball before crossing and putting a hand out to keep a player off him. I also remember being really angry reading in the echo the next day as they described it as "the sort of thing that goes unnoticed, let alone unpunished"

I think it would have put us in the semi's. So much heartbreak around that time.

Chorlton Posted 21 February, 2011 Share Posted 21 February, 2011 I remember the Cockerill goal up there. Brilliant volley corner of the area. I have looked online for it as well but no luck. Musty have been 88/89? Remember the disallowed goal at The Dell as well. Did Ricky Hill score for them? I remember that everybody hated Luton around that time for the away fans ban, their tory MP chairman, the plastic pitch and them always neating us. Feel sorry for them now
Dr Who? Posted 21 February, 2011 Share Posted 21 February, 2011 (edited) That is it Ricky Hill scored for them and Foster. We were robbed. The goal at their place was on the plastic pitch and for us to draw there was a big thing and there was only going to be one winner at our place!!! Whoops. The same can go for quite a few matches where we drew away only to screw it up at home Derby County FA Cup 3rd round 1-1 at their place lost 1-2 at home when Jerry Forrest scored for us!! Stockport 2-2 only to lose at home 1-2 after going 1 up really early on. Then talking of plastic pitches 2-2 at home to Oldham only to go to a replay which I did not even bother listening to... I think we lost 2/3 - 0. All these games were around 89-95. Seemed to happen every season the Luton and Derby County game I believe were the same season 88/89! Edited 21 February, 2011 by Dr Who? sussexsaint Posted 21 February, 2011 Share Posted 21 February, 2011 The cockerill goal on the plastic pitch has always been one of my favourite goals, many look at me blankly when I go all misty eyed about it so I thank you sir for bringing this up . Lets B Avenue Posted 22 February, 2011 Share Posted 22 February, 2011 This was only 2 weeks after we had been dic ked 6-1 in the league. Away fans were banned by their Nazi chairman, David Evans, but had to be admitted to cup games.
