trousers Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Solent mentioned during Hartlepool game that our 1st half:2nd half goal ratio is something along the lines of 30:70 (if memory serves me correctly) Any sporting psychologists out there care to explain that one? And any stattos out there who can provide similar stats for the other promotion contenders in League One? Cheers :-)
The9 Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 I'd be "N'Guessan" that part of it is to do with the additional 4-5 minutes you usually get at the end of the second half, and the fact that tired players make more mistakes. Plus, we've won just under half of our games, so a lot of teams who are behind and trying to get back into it are much more likely to get caught out of position attacking than a team which is ahead or drawing and already has a point or more to defend. MarkSFC Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Without the stats this is mere supposition but under PArdew I laways got the impression that we started very well in the first half and tailed off. Almost like we would use too much energy and sometimes run out. Under Adkins it feels like he has the team pacing themselves better, and saving energy for the latter part of games. I also heard that Adkins has a very set routine at half-time (dont know if PArdew implemented it, doubt it though!!) whereby the first 5 minutes are a quiet time...allowing everyone to reflect and clam down....then Adkins spends 5 minutes de-briefing the first half and then the last 5 minutes are setting expectations and plans for the 2nd half. Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Micheal Owen said it in his interview after the game against us. Better teams keep the ball better, lesser teams have to try harder to keep the pace, so they tire as the match goes on. This is why better teams or teams with better players tend to score late n the match.
