lordswoodsaints Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 in 2003 we reached the fa cup final,we had a great manager who knew how to get the best out of the players available,we were in europe and things looked rosy in the garden. 2008 and pompey reached the final (admittedly they won it) ,they had a manager who knew how to polish a turd, they are in europe and things did look rosy for them. strachan left and the ship sunk, will redknapp be the cause of the same fate on pompey? will they be strong enough to ride out the storm? are they astute enough to learn from the mistakes made by a club like ours or are they so financially handcuffed that they will not be able to buy themselves out of trouble. im guessing that their troubles will start next season,a new manager rebuilding his team coupled with a possible change of ownership will cause problems for them. stevegrant Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 Given that they appear as if they're going to "appoint from within" in the form of Tony Adams (who was pretty rubbish at Wycombe Wanderers a few years ago), I'd say they seem destined and determined to copy our path, which is generous of them. Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 Difference will be evident come Feb 1st. If there is a fire sale due to reported financial troubles then I think it may well go the same way for pompey, however, if they find a new buyer to the same ilk that Mansab!tch or the dirty russian are, then they will unfortunately be ok. John B Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 Pompey have a got a decent team at the moment better than our 2003 team but of course anything could happen
Lowestoft-Saint Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 IMO Agent Arry is at work again, he know's the Skates are in Debt and are going to face financial problems because of his overspending and the ridiculous fees and wages he has given players. So he has struck a deal with Gayman, he said let me go to Spurs and I will spend all thier money and buy all the sh*te players that I have brought to Pooh Pooh Park. That will save the skates loads of money, Spurs will still go down, Agent Arry will walk out saying I had no chance of saving them.. Then he will return to spiritual home & him and Gayman will live happy ever after....
Toomer Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 I for my sins have the misfortune work with a Skate (not a bad lad as far as Skates go) his take on it is that some sort of deal was going on weeks ago, not as Harry said, the first I knew about it was when we got back from Portugal. Harry said he was in Portugal, waiting for a flight home when he got a call.. but he went to Portugal a while ago as well, you know with him, truth isn't an exact science;

Rebel Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 A friend of my brother in law (they are both Skates) supposedly saw Beckham at Fratton Park on Thursday!! if he turns up at Spurs now we'll know it was true I guess! It has been fun at work today winding up all the Pompey and Spurs fans!!! Pointing out the the Skates that he's left them for a bigger club twice now! Asking where Arry's spiritual home is now? Having loud discussions with other Saints fans as to which Pompey players he'll come back for in January - and for the Spurs fans - about which excuses he'll trot out this time!
