Saints are now the saintliest club in the premiere

With the sending of of Metersacker for Arsenal and the bookings recieved by Fulham vs QPR recently we are now the side with the least card points this season. Rather surprising as our tactics are to play a pressing game and given the number of tackles our midfield puts in!

I hasten to add this is not the official fair play league (which looks at more than just cards) but I am having difficulty finding a table for that later than mid March!

I must admit a system of 1 point per yellow and only 2 for red is a bit baffeling!

Arsenal in 2nd despite having more sendings off than any other club?

Is there still a European spot available for the winner of the official Fair Play league - or did I imagine that?

I think England also has to be in the top 3 for fair play as well for that to happen. Will be interesting to see if it is the case though and if we did indeed qualify and it meant Saints went into the Europa League, how would we cope...

I think Cortese would want a lot chucked at that. Having a European adventure is what he wants and by doing it, we can establish ourselves. However, you also want to take one step at a time and we are still a developing team, so maybe we want to wait a year or two (if that really is where we are heading).

Yeah, agreed. I'd also think it'd give us a fighting chance of;

(1) keeping our existing players happy with European football, albeit the less glamourous of the competitions

(2) A useful bargaining tool/attraction for bringing players in (looks like we're progressive etc).

I'd love us to qualify and hope we do - however, I'd also be wary as teams who had European adventures sometimes suffer (I'm assuming we'll need a bigger squad, too).
