You know what, as much as I've always thought that his 'mongboard' title was a bit OTT, it's subjects like this that actually make me wonder if he's been right all along. We do have some real mongs as fans, who revel in overreacting.

not even a tiny bit is that exclusive to our fans.

and anyone looking for reasoned and thought out debate on a football forum is way off

Oh I completely agree with the first line... although if you know who to follow, then the second is possible, you just need to filter out the rest!

I'd just like to state for once and for all that there was NEVER a sell on clause in the original deal when Saints sold Bale in the first place. All we cashed in on were possible future appearances and goals.

Do we have definitive proof either way? I've heard both versions argued but never seen anyone produce a shread of evidence the club I don't think have ever commented on the structure of either the bale or walcott deal and exactly what we cahsed in!

So this part of the article in the OP is incorrect?

Five years ago, Forecast was a supplement in the deal when Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy bought out *Southampton’s 25 per cent sell-on clause on a promising young left-back called Gareth Bale.

Yes, it's completely wrong. The OS article about Forecast's purchase which I dug out from the Wayback Machine last week also only mentions future appearances and goals, and I've had it verified by a local journo from back when the Echo actually had access to that kind of inside info.

Forecast OS article detailed exactly what was cashed in for the Bale deal, no mention of a sell on, because there wasn't one. Actually, maybe I should go back to the Bale stuff to see what the club said then...

The Echo repeats the "no sell on" comment here :http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/10581204.Saints_in_line_for___2m_windfall_if_Gareth_Bale_signs_for_Real_Madrid/

There's also a Metro article online which claims Saints denied there was a sell on clause while Tottenham said there was one. But that it wasn't as high as 25%.

Ah balls, Bale left on 25 May 2007 - Wayback has an archive of Saintsfc.co.uk/news on May 12th and the next one isn't until June, which only has the articles for June archived, so can't get to it as there's nothing with the May archive in it containing stuff from after 12th.

Spurs website doesn't even mention the price, never mind any clauses : http://web.archive.org/web/20070528051220/http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/balesigns.html#

Here is the Echo article from 24th May 2007.

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/1421507.Bale_all_set_for_Spurs_switch/?ref=arc

The 17-year-old Welsh left back will put pen to paper on a £10m deal to take him from St Mary's to White Hart Lane barring any last-minute hitches.

The deal Spurs have struck with Saints will see them lay down a £6m downpayment with a further £4m based partly on instalments and incentives such as appearances, trophies won and European qualification at his new club.

Saints feel they have been left with no choice but to cash in on Bale following the player's decision not to extend his current contract.

Bale now has just one year left to run on the two-year deal he signed on his 17th birthday last July.

Adam seems to know the figures and I think he would have mentioned any sell on clauses if they existed.
