Saint in Paradise Posted 26 February, 2014 Share Posted 26 February, 2014 Most of you probably know this but as I have only just heard and just in case there are more like me I have posted this. The Highways Agency announced in January that it will be testing GREY average speed cameras on the M1, M6 and M25 in the not too distant future. The former Minister who campaigned successfully for speed cameras to be painted yellow under the last government, John Spellar, has said that it is purely a money making exercise: "They simply wanted to catch as many drivers as possible going over the speed limit, which made money, whereas my intention was to make drivers slow down at known accident blackspots, which made the roads safer." "If they are bringing back grey cameras now, it will look like a victory for those was wanted to hide cameras in the first place." "Ministers should resist it as hard as possible." A return to the 'bad old days'? Time will tell...
Sheaf Saint Posted 26 February, 2014 Share Posted 26 February, 2014 Doesn't really matter. You can't seem to travel any more than about 10 miles on a motorway these days without coming across a long section of coned-off roadworks with average-speed cameras enforcing a 50mph limit anyway. pap Posted 26 February, 2014 Share Posted 26 February, 2014 I nip around the place at a fair old whack, especially on motorways. My main run is obviously Liverpool to Southampton. I've never received a ticket. Is there a lot of it about down south?

The last two speeding tickets I got were for doing 54mph through 40mph roadworks - but it was 3am, a dual carriageway, traffic free and no work was going on and doing 34mph on the dual carriageway behinds Debenhams in Soton. Ive never got one for speeding on a motorway.

Ive never got one for speeding on a motorway. Strangely I was caught doing 34mph by the same camera about 18 months ago. No points though as I was offered a "driver awareness" course.
