Sheaf Saint Posted 15 March, 2014 Share Posted 15 March, 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26587077 Unusual step in the modern money-driven world of PL football. Kudos to the WBA board for doing what they believe was right rather than sweeping it under the carpet.

Sheaf Saint Posted 15 March, 2014 Author Share Posted 15 March, 2014 Sweeping it under the carpet was impossible the moment everybody was told how offended they needed to be. I guess so, but I expect the West Brom board's decision was made easier by the fact that they signed him on a free in the knowledge he was nearing the end of his career anyway. If he was 5-10 years younger and they had forked out a large transfer fee for him, they probably would have tried to find an alternative solution that would bring them some kind of return on their investment, as with our situation with Osvaldo. There can't be many other PL players who have had their contracts terminated like this rather than just transferred or left to rot in the reserves. The Aussie keeper (whose name completely escapes me) that was bounced from Chelsea after being stung for cocaine use is the only other example I can think of off hand. Saint_clark Posted 15 March, 2014 Share Posted 15 March, 2014 You thinking of Adrian Mutu, the striker? He was sacked by Chelsea for cocaine use.

Mark Bosnich Yes, Bosnich is who I was thinking of, but I had completely forgotten about Mutu as well, so you are both right.
Lorne Malvo Posted 19 September, 2014 Share Posted 19 September, 2014 http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/29281955 3 game ban to someone who doesn't play. Nice. Fine will hurt him for a fortnight too.
