SET Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Docker-P has mentioned creating a fans owned club in another thread, should the need arise. I thought this subject needs a thread of its own. If people are serious about doing this we need to get the wheels in motion now, league registrations will soon be shutting for next season. IMO as the time is constrained we need to create a steering committee who will get the club off the ground, then once up and running an EGM would be called for the membership to vote on the board of their choice. We're going to need a few skills Legal Finance Web Development Marketing/PR but mostly complete commitment to the idea of fan ownership. If you think you can help please feel free to email southampton1885@googlemail.com, (giving a breif outline of your skills experience) we can then try and setup a meeting. Ideally someone with no issues buys SFC and this idea can go away, but just incase the worst happens we need to be ready. We are also going to require somewhere to hold a meeting, please let me know if you have a room available for use, i guess a pub would be ideal. I've already contacted Supporters Direct and will be speaking with them later today.
Frank's cousin Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 I think you can afford to wait 2-3 weeks and see what happens - Sainst is the club we have now, warts and all, the history both good and bad, and all that has befallen us is what makes us who we are. Lowe wont be back.
alpine_saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 This plan should only be a Plan Z - a last resort. Who is going to devote their time to it ?

Hopefully there is no need to go any further, but if the worst happens we need to be in a position where we have a viable option for next season. Colinjb Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 A contingency must be made even if it is not eventually required, its a very prudent thing to do. The moves must be made to ensure that we have a club of some sort next year. I'm not sure what help I can give considering that I live ooop north and have an engineering background but I will be happy to if required. I agree - I think the first point of call should be to arrange a meeting with Mark Fry to see exactly where we stand - Maybe a question and answer session with the fans maybe a good thing for him to do? - This could be done the back end of this week - with the minutes published for all to see - we could then get something going as a backup. Willing to help where and if needed.
hamster Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 If this is to be a serious plan the inaugral meeting should be somewhere 'special' in my opinion. Might I suggest the Northam club?

How about St Marys Church? I think the whole History of the clubs are linked to the church (and having him on our side could help out?) Probably a special place for the New pheonix to be born and blessed.... But I do hope it does n't come to this!!!
SET Posted 27 April, 2009 Author Share Posted 27 April, 2009 I have this evening been speaking to Nick Illingsworth regarding this proposal. We have the full backing of the trust to setup a committee to engage in drawing up plans for a new club, if and i stress if no other alternative is left. The idea is not to run a club alongside an existing Southampton FC. So please if you think you could help and wish to get involved drop me a mail or pm and we'll get this thing underway. Smirking_Saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Unfortunately i would only support a splinter club if there was no saints any more, Lowe or not southampton are my team (although if it comes to RL coming back i couldn't see it lasting much longer anyways) If however it comes down to this i will be right behind it. And what the fook do you need the backing of Nick Illingsworth and the Saints Trust for anyway?!?!? If Lowe comes back then my Southampton supporting days are over, not going back to him, will probably end up at Eastleigh or on the Golf course. If there is no club and the Saints Trust get their grubby hands anywhere near a new club, then I won't be supporting that either. So I guess it is takeover from a genuinely decent bidder or nothing for me.
niceandfriendly Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 The Saints trust, SISA, Nick Illingsworth, True Saints (are there any difference between that lot?) and any other fans group which have been so desperate to be in the limelight in recent years would need to stay well away from any new club which is formed. Hearing the same names branded around would just bring back bad memories from the past few years of the countless squabbling and *****-fighting which has occurred. Just like if Lowe returned to SFC, it'd be a disaster if any of these people/groups were to be involved.

Quite. It'd need to be a completely new 'organisation'. Is that the right word? The idea would need a new figurehead with a little bit of money, business sense, one or two contacts and someone who is not just interested in self-promotion. SET Posted 27 April, 2009 Author Share Posted 27 April, 2009 It's about time saints fans unite in one voice, i've approached the trust as it is they who are supported by Supporters Direct for Southampton. Not only that but to get this sort of venture of the ground we need backing, Nick has offered the trusts backing. We will have our own committee, the trust will support that committee and provide a representative, in return we will have a rep on the saints trust committee. I'm open to the idea of doing this with all fans group if they wish to bring us all together on this project. But this is something our steering committee will have to decide on the best course. If though the committee for the saints1885 project decide they'd rather go it alone then i we would have to respectfully decline the offer from the trust. But i repeat myself earlier, its about time we unite. If people do not want a person involved all you have to do is put your name forward, join as members and vote for the board you want. So please put your name forward and lets get the clubs support moving forward together.

Tim Southampton Rover Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Might be worth talking to FC United and AFC Wimbledon about how to go ahead with the idea IF there is no alternative. At the moment there is a Lowe free Southampton who needs everyone to be fully supporting them.

SFC Forever Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 Good thinking batman. If this works you will need to have the usual professionals involved. What I don't get though is this:- Derry is trying to get something organised and if his involvement isn't necessary you could surely work alongside him. So why not ask him what he is doing and what he thinks?
