eelpie Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11728 Some salient comments here. How many tough players do we have that can play hard and fast? I can't think of any apart from Kelvin, Size, Perry and Wotton. McGoldrick has the strength, but he does sulk when things don't go his way. Wotton is certainly brave, but he is slow. Any others? If we couldn't do it in the Championship, how will we do it in League 1? We do have the skills, but we will need physical additions to the (smaller) squad imho. Matt Paterson looks like he's up to it. He'll need to curb some of his aggression, even in L1, but I think he'll be a key player next season. eelpie Posted 30 April, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 April, 2009 Interesting comment about Redknapp at the end of that article too!!! "Harry Redknapp was always saying 'We need to buy players, we need to buy players' without looking after the good players that we already had here and I think that was part of the problem." I had to read this twice, before getting the significance of what Joe was saying. Perhaps Joe is a manager for the future. (Mods, I hope I am not infracted for pasting from our dear old OS)
eelpie Posted 30 April, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 April, 2009 It's so sad that no-one wants to talk about football anymore.

Just for spelling Wolfie's name wrong. (I've corrected it now) Tessem is another I'd like to see back at Saints in some kind of coaching capacity. Always liked his work ethic and how down to Earth he was.

Gave no praise to the players, only slagged them off, and then brought in a bunch of dross (with the exception of Camara). I remember Bryan Robson arrived at WBA about the same time and they were already dead and buried it seemed, but he went out of his way to praise his players and built up their confidence and survived the drop at our expense. There is no way we should have gone down with the players we had, but I'm sure Shearer is probably thinking the same thing at Newcastle right now

the saint in winchester Posted 1 May, 2009 Share Posted 1 May, 2009 Tessem was jogging through Totton on Tuesday, Still looks lean and fit. Maybe a comback ;-) It's a matter of public record that about 6 months ago he came on Radio Hampshire to remind the club that he was back in the area, fully fit and desperate to play for Saints again. The presenter pointed out that the club was skint so probably couldn't afford him/anyone. He said "hey' I'm on unemployment benefit here; any wage in excess of that secures me." I wrote on here that I felt the club should take him up on his offer. I'm disappointed they didn't and even now, I would bring him in a player/coach. Superb player in his day. How about a bring back Tessem campaign? Would be great to see Tessem back at the club
