I've never heard the phrase "getting pelters" (or similar) anywhere other than this site. Just thought I'd share.

Yep. Last night's result is only a catastrophe to people deluded enough to think we'll finish in the top 4. To anyone realistic enough to think we're a half decent side who'll finish 8th to 13th-ish it was just another win some/lose some/draw some Premier League result.

Who is the best midfielder - Lallana, Henderson or Cleverley?
channonwindmill replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
Cleverly is the Nicky Butt of his generation. -
WC you talk a lot of sense and I have a lot of time for your posts, but there's part of this that I have an issue with: Under MP we're now known for our high tempo pressing game, these players use these tactics and do so effectively. Pundits often mention it on telly. (Gaston himself, as I recall, did it especially well in MP's first game at home to Everton - if he'd kept that up this thread wouldn't be here). That being the case surely our own players can't be naive enough to be surprised if it's our opponents doing the pressing and harassing. Doesn't make sense.

How many times did he retain the ball in that game? Just out of interest, for comparison's sake.

A serious transfer window review thread...
channonwindmill replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
He might score the goals that get them a place in Europe, either through the league or one of the cups. -
Great minds...

Yep. Sounds like he had a good game up until then. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/4703860.stm

Bart looked a great prospect when Burley first brought him into the team, put in some really good performances as I recall. Never looked the same player after he did his knee at Newcastle in the cup. Shame - but for that he might still be playing at a higher level.

Seems to be a lot of anti-Lallana people

If we spend £10m+ on a new midfielder Lallana's place will be under threat. I presume you wouldn't advocate that we get Dean Hammond back in and give him 20+ starts next season ahead of Schneiderlin and Wanyama to see what rate he progresses at? -
Seems to be a lot of anti-Lallana people

So you wouldn't expect an experienced player with 5 or 6 seasons of first team football to perform better at Prem level than a 17 year old in his debut season? Ok. -

Luke Shaw adjusted pretty well, and that was without 5 or 6 seasons of regular first team football behind him. -
Which 'United' are you referring to in that last sentence? :-)
-
Yes I agree with you - they were the big five. I guess it's just strange in a way that Forest weren't considered in that bracket - very similar league record to United over the course of the decade, coming as it did after their consecutive European Cup wins and the League Championship that preceded it.
-
Were Forest considered a big club in the 80s?
-
Very difficult. Swansea had a great season, won the League Cup and will be in Europe. It'll be a long time before they're seen as rivals to the top 4 or 5 though.

At 2 mins 41. Cool video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vfqXR82u0E

I agree with Noddles43.

They played the radio commentary for the goals in the 4-3 game before tonight's match on Solent earlier, the noise for Camara's goal really came through. Even though we went down a few weeks later it was still a happy memory to hear, easily one of the top 4 or 5 great matches I've ever seen at St Mary's.

Leeds 3 - 0 Saints - Post Match Reaction

Butt plugs. -
I've got a lot of time for Gareth Bale. Great player and I take a certain pride that he started his career with us and that I was lucky enough to watch him regularly. It was pretty clear early on that he was going to move on and I don't begrudge him it at all. He went about it entirely in the right way - there was none of that carp in the papers from his agent/parents/whoever trying to engineer the move a la AOC which I found quite distasteful. He obviously appreciates his time at Saints and looks back on it fondly, and seems a genuinely nice and level headed lad. He has the talent to be one of the very best players in the world (if he's not already) and I sincerely wish him all the best for his future. Always enjoy watching him play.

If he genuinely aimed at the advertising board and ended up striking a fan with it, then aintforever's joke above is actually quite pertinent, surely?
-
I can't believe this thread lasted over 40 minutes without anyone cracking this joke. (Still laughed though)

I wonder what's happening on all the other threads.

Yeah I had a fantastic time thanks - it was impossibly hot though, as you say. I was quite nervous beforehand and wish in hindsight that I'd been able to play a bit more wholeheartedly but it was still brilliant. My missus and my little boy came down to watch, and to able to walk off the pitch at the end waving to them was something I'll never forget, a real once in a lifetime thing. Any time I think about any part of the afternoon I just want to do the whole thing all over again.
