  1. I don't think he'd be good enough for them. They've already got Eğribayat, who's a better goalkeeper than Lis. Anyway, I'm not sure Lis would want to stay in Izmir as he has been involved in a dispute there over unpaid wages.
  2. I've watched most of Inter's games on BT Sport this season and he's still very good, has phenomenal work rate and creates lots of chances, with 3 goals and 6 assists in his last 10 games. With Perisic, Son and Kane, Spurs are going to score even more goals next season.
  3. Diallo reminds me a bit of Jordy Clasie. For the first year or two they were here, the more optimistic fans said, hopefully, that they just needed a bit more time to adjust to the Premier League. But, basically, they just weren't suited to it.
  4. At least we should be able to beat his son's team. It will be nice for our players to win a game for a change.
  5. It's going to be the Fiorentina reserve goalkeeper or the youngster who played for Pompey this season. On the plus side, anybody's got to be better than McCarthy. The problem is Ralph is still going to pick McCarthy for some games, including the ones which give us our only chance of winning a trophy in the League Cup and FA Cup.
  6. Good move for him and we've got worse. What's the betting we'll see McCarthy in goal for our first team again next season?
  7. The thing about away games is that our fans who sing and make the most noise are forced to stay together in one big group so there are enough of them to make themselves heard. At home they split themselves into two groups in the corners of the away end. They effectively divide themselves so the away fans can rule. The obvious thing would be for them to all get behind the goal at the Chapel end, which is supposed to be our home end. The police would have no objection to this. I know that such a suggestion will be met with cynicism and laughter. It always is and that perhaps is the problem of Saints support.
  8. At least there's not enough time left for them to score 9.
  9. We've still got the same problem we've had since van Dijk and Fonte left: we still need two new central defenders, preferably two who can head the ball. Oh, and we also need two new strikers, preferably two who can head the ball and even score goals.
  10. Yes, that's their third cup this season. At this rate, we'll soon need a bigger trophy cabinet.
  11. Several sites reporting that Spurs are after him so he could end up playing in the Champions League next season. Tottenham want England man that Arteta branded ‘exceptional’ this season (hitc.com)
  12. I was at that Eastleigh v Grimsby game and didn't see that although I did see the stewards take one of them out during the game. Where exactly did it happen? The antics of the mob of teenagers behind the goal in the South Stand are generally quite amusing. At least Eastleigh, unlike Saints, have a noisy mob behind both goals and stick the away fans in the corner. I'm surprised there was a scrap as the 500+ Grimsby fans were all men, mostly over 30, and the Eastleigh mob are all, as you say, about 15/16. Still on the subject of Saints/Eastleigh connections, I think that the Korean youngster, Yang Seung-woo, who was released by Saints Academy in 2019, could turn out to be a pretty good player. He's just earned his first professional contract at Eastleigh but I can see him playing at a higher level in the future. He's got the same agent as Broja.

  14. It's because we haven't got anybody who can head the ball. It's the same with all the high crosses and corners, which are our main form of attack. They all go to the heads of opposition players. The only problem is they then head the ball to their own players, not ours, which results in a lot of counterattacks against us.
  15. Fraser Forster was standing with the fans watching the game last night.
  16. I said last year that if McCarthy played in goal for the rest of the season, we'd be relegated and we would have been. I dread the prospect of him playing for us again next season. The Fiorentina reserve goalkeeper we are supposedly signing is very injury-prone and can be out for months at a time. He also gets suspended a lot. He got 2 red cards in his 9 first team appearances this season, which means we will almost certainly see more of McCarthy limbo dancing at his near post, trying to avoid getting hit by the ball.
  17. The rumours are getting stronger that we're signing Fiorentina reserve goalkeeper, Dragowski. This doesn't exactly fill me with confidence as I've watched most of Fiorentina's games this season on BT Sport and even their first choice goalkeeper is not very good and Dragowski has picked up 2 red cards in the 9 first team games he has appeared in this season. He's also very injury-prone and has long-term knee problems.
  18. Good game at the Silverlake today: Eastleigh 4-4 Grimsby. Attendance: 3,499 incl. >500 Grimsby fans. Grimsby were leading 2-0 at half-time and Eastleigh scored the final goal in the 90th minute. Ex-Saint Jake Hesketh scored a good goal.
  19. The number of songs that have become football anthems is fairly limited and most of them are old. Yellow Submarine is still being sung in Italy. But, there is one I think would be brilliant, which, as far as I know, has never been used and that's Neil Young's Southern Man. Of course, the lyrics would need to be changed but the melody is about as perfect as you could get for a football anthem, especially for Southampton.
  20. Anyone can write whatever they like on Wikipedia but I think what you've been doing is including the years they were in the new Divison 1 (old name for Championship) in the 90s and early 00s, which was the second tier in the Premier League era. The number of seasons Pompey were in the top flight is 33 and that is a FACT which is unlikely to change in the near future. 21. You should have learned by now never to trust any numbers provided by Pompey fans. These are the real totals: Seasons in top flight, not including next season: Saints 45 Pompey 33 This site is fairly reliable as they can't tamper with it: England historical attendance and performance (european-football-statistics.co.uk)
  22. Here's something else to cheer you up. We are now going into our 46th season in the top flight.
  23. Does he have anyone on his coaching staff who's worth listening to? Kelvin Davis? Dave Watson?
  24. We don't have anyone who's any good at heading the ball, either in defence or attack, and opposition managers have begun to capitalize on it. Meanwhile our manager and coaches still don't seem to have realized and we keep lobbng high crosses, throw-ins and corners into the opposition penalty area. Because we don't win anything in the air, the pathetic excuse has even be offered that we deliberately direct long throws to opposition players' heads so that they will head the ball to one of our players, which of course they don't. They head it to one of their own players instead and start an attack against us. I believe there are stats which show we are the worst team for conceding goals from corners and crosses and for failing to score from them at the other end. Until we buy a defender and striker or two who are good at heading, we are going to continue struggling.
  25. I don't suppose there's any chance of getting Giovanni van Bronckhorst? He might fancy managing in the Premier League, although he'd probably choose a bigger club than Saints.
