I'd guess they are only willing to spend big on players that will be have a good sell on value and there simply isn't anyone available in that bracket in Jan

I will be accused of being a Manji alias again but I do buy into the argument that it was Semmens who cocked up the striker signing, not SR. Of course there have been other mistakes but that specific one has cost us big time. This season was always going to be a struggle with so many young players but if we could stay up then we would have something to build on. Not getting in a striker, which SR had big funds set aside for, has killed the plan at the first hurdle
 -
That's exactly the point of the stat. It's showing you how good the team is at creating chances and taking out other factors like whether the strikers had an off day, whether they were up against a goalie having a worldie etc
 -
If I remember rightly, the word was that they'll sell if they succeed in getting a replacement. I think they'd subsidise Wood's wages if it saves them money overall
 -
He was playing so poorly in the Turkish league that he had to be taken off in the 28th minute and you want to sign him?
 -
We finished 8th that season so not a great comparison. I could easily see this season being like 98/99 where we sign a striker who fires the goals to keep us up
 -
Man City sold Lavia to us on the assumption they'd be able to buy him back when/if he is ready to play first team football for them. That's a minimum of a season with us, probably two. They won't want him going to a rival, even if they can flip a quick profit. And they won't want to have to buy him back at a premium this soon to prevent us selling him on. The City talent pipeline is still strong and we'd be mad to cut ourselves off from future deals
 -
There's no way we can sell Lavia now without pissing off City and messing up the possibility of future transfers from them
 -
He's had a hamstring injury and this recent niggle - we're there other niggles I've missed?
 -
You don't have to be a genius or a nerd to understand the point @Saint86 was making
 -
Eddie Howe is enjoying his whistle in the Newcastle training video too. People are reading way too much into this video
 -
We're not exactly Tesco are we. It's more like a chain with 30 stores hiring someone with an impressive track record at a chain of 5 stores
 -
I find this highly believable. Something was not right with that ref (and VAR!)
 -
I agree, I just can't work out what position he will play. His physique is all wrong for full back. I do think he is quite skillful though. I can see him playing as a bulky wing forward like Mbappe(!) or Aboubakar Kamara, but more at the level of the latter
 -
France prevented us from scoring in open play by fouling us at every opportunity. And the referee didn't reward us for that
 -
We missed a penalty and should have had another. It's fine margins at this level and we didn't get the rub off the green. You can't put that at Southgate's door
 -
We'd have got destroyed with those subs, you're basically asking to put on five forwards against the world champions
 -
I'd be amazed if we go for him given our experience with Armstrong
 -
People complain we're not ambitious enough with our transfers but when we try to go big we don't manage to get the players. Catch 22
 -
Were taches fashionable when Franny had one?
 -
If by this you mean that every single season people on this board are convinced we will get relegated, then yes 😄
 -
This is so dull, why aren't we scoring?
 -
Solskjaer was such a poor manager. Rashford now a different player
 -
Neither team would admit it but ultimately a draw suits both - Wales get their moral victory and England go through top
