I'm not dressing up our signings from City as a success. But it's a fact that they were more successful than are senior pro signings. None out of four of those worked out last year. That's a 0% success rate by my maths.
-
Can't have too many young players competing for a first team place. And we want the absolute best young players to turn to when a slot opens up in the first team, not just the 'best we have at the time'.
-
It's annoying. I guess if it's the only way to get the player, you have to accept it, but now we are in the championship, selling a player back to City for £40m will seem like a massive success. Not many championship players go for that money.

We are linked with some experienced (not crap) players, Downes, Piroe, Grimes, Manning... The issue is that you can't buy high quality experienced players, cos they are too expensive. Lavia without experience £10m, Lavia with experience £50m. Lavia worked. Baz didn't. Orsic, Onuachi, Aribo and the many experienced pros already at the club certainly didn't work out. It's a lower division. So the standard is lower, so the young players have more chance of shining straight away.

Not sure they do.

we discussed him on here at the start of last summer, but West Ham snapped him up quite quickly. He looked a very good player in the videos I watched. Very calm and composed, willing to take the ball in tight spaces and with the touch and ability to get out of them. He looked very smooth and the game looked easy at Championship level. The Prem is obviously a different level and Moyes preferred Soucek. A lot of West Ham fans felt he should have been dropped and Downes given more game time. Towards the end of the season he did start to get games and did OK by all accounts. He's no Lavia, but may be a step up on Diallo.

isn't L'Equipe and pretty reliable source? Unlike some of the rumours discussed on here, I'm inclined to trust this story and now consider ABK a Monaco player all bar the shouting.
-
"Moyes wants to replace Rice with at least two midfielders and preliminary talks have been held over a deal for Zakaria."
-
What's he like? Is he more of a defensive midfielder and someone that gets about the pitch? I've never really felt JWP to West Ham was a possibility, but could they sign two players in central midfield? They struggled in there last season. Soucek wasn't good.

kind of a modern day Jimmy Case. Shame we couldn't hang on to him.
-
Probably just a made up rumour on twitter with zero foundation or legs.

I just don't see how the finances work in terms of a move to a Championship side (or indeed any side to be honest). He has two years left on his West Ham contract. He has no reason to move and certainly not if he will paid less. If you took him on a free and paid him the same wage as he gets now, that might work. However, it would make more sense to loan him for a year with West Ham paying half his wages. Even then, paying someone £65k a week in the championship is crazy (cough...McCarthy wages ain't far off).
-
How on earth are Leicester going to afford to pay Vardy £150k a week and Ings £100k a week in the Championship?
-
He didn't miss any games due to injury last season at all. He started 15 Prem games, came off the bench for 20. Scored 8 goals and 2 assists. He also scored one goal in the league cup (from two games) and one in the Europa conference (from 5 games, mostly coming on as a sub).
-
Turkish sides do seem to like to take shite Premiership players. Do any moves actually work out?
-
Exactly. This is why players have releases clauses. If his agent hasn't insisted on one, that's on him. Like others have said. We'll probably settle on £45m, although plenty of continental sides seem to be demanding X and getting X when the big Prem clubs come calling rather than accept a lower offer.
-
Didn't Liverpool want Sander Berge but were consistently put off by Sheff United's price tag?
-
lets hope Chelsea have let a good un slip through their fingers. Best of luck to him.
-
He looked OK when I watched him. Not exactly quick, but pretty neat and tidy on the ball and he whipped in one or two nice crosses. He also shanked one, which perhaps is why some think he is crap. It's hard to make a decent assessment as we've seen almost nothing of him except when struggling against a relentless Newcastle attack in the cup. With three or four (if you count Payne) right backs, someone will have to depart.
-
Bree has three more years on his contract. Wonder if Luton might consider buying him back?

King of the nutmeg.

I think in Abu we are signing a youth team player that will start off in the B team and then we hope will progress into the first team. Might take a year, might just take the summer. The B team is not a B team, it's a youth team.
-
We seem to have a lot of right backs ahead of him in KWP, Livramento, Bree and Payne. Chelsea releases him, so he's hasn't been bought, so a low risk signing. Not sure where he fits in, but the club must see a role in the B team or near the first team.
-
We have brought in Abu today. Not sure he will challenge for a first team spot, but it's a signing. Cabellero signed a new one year deal. Dom Ballard signed a new two year deal. Lots of rumours. Not sure if any are genuine: Flynn Downes has been heavily linked to us this week - although very little foundation to it. Swansea players Manning (out of contract), Wood, Capango, Fultan, Grimes and Piroe all touted as possibles/linked. Grady Dianga (WBA striker) linked today Shea Charles (Man City DM) linked yesterday Hamza Choudhury (Leicester CM) Dragowski (GK) Josh Windass (Sheff Wed F)

£25m feels a long way short of the £50m figure the club have indicated (as reported in the papers). I think we all know that we probably won't get that amount, but it's hard to say what are lowest figure might be. At the moment the club seems to be giving off the vibes that players simply won't be sold for less than our valuations. Sticking to those guns relies heavily on the owner being able to cover the £130m spending from last year with little in the way of money coming back in. Some on here think the owner can and will do that. I am not so sure. I think we are bluffing and we do need to recoup funds this summer. I have to say though that I am happy at how the cub are playing things so far. Things can change quickly though.
