I agree. Not good that Lavia was not sold early for a shit load - the financial pressure could mount. Perhaps little wonder that Dragon had to give the club another £18m last week to tide us over.
-
Ouch. Add that to being forced to pay £24.5m to Augustin for a breach of contract and you have a sizeable hole in your accounts. No wonder they haven't spent anything yet to reshape their squad.
-
What difference does that make other than ensure he doesn't get a loyalty payout from Saints when he is sold (which may or may not be in his contract anyway)
-
£10m seems a good price for a central midfielder that has scored 19 goals in 74 Premier League games over the last two seasons.

KWP's a better fullback than both IMO. He wasn't good last year, but prior to that, he was tremendous for us. Two seasons ago, Tino started well, but he faded and his defending wasn't great. We also don't know how his injury has affected him. We've not seen Manning kick a ball for us. KWP was a better left back than Perraud and kept him out of the side for periods. Is Manning better than Perraud? That said, we have too many right backs, so you are probably right that he will depart. Your price of £15m would be a great deal for someone. Might be tough for us to get £25m after last season (and buyers knowing we probably need to offload some wages), but it seems five minutes since we were talking about £30-40m for him.
-
possibly, but they would have to want to come to us, in a lower division...and then there is issue of their Prem wages. Ings' wages are not affordable in the championship
-
maybe we are asking for a lot more?
-
I assume he has put another £18m to ease cash flow issues.

I know it's from 2019, but this has to be one of the least inspiring youtube videos I have ever seen. If you can find an 'amazing skill' in here you have done better than me. I hope he has blossomed otherwise its a `no thanks' from me.
-
Preferred Ruben Vinagre, but hopefully Manning can do a great job for us. From what I have read he's better gong forward than defensively. Not sure he is terribly quick, which I personally feel is essential for top class full backs, but we're in the championship now, so need to temper expectations. In terms of individual quality, we are bound to get worse this summer, but I just wonder if Manning might actually be better than Perraud. Hope so.

I don't know exactly what we owe and the payment schedules - I can only generalise and use fag packet figures, but we obviously have spent a lot and will need to balance the books. Leicester didn't spend £130m last season on players. In fact they made about £40m o the Fofana sale. The just brought in over £40m from the Maddison sale and have spent less than half of it. They are about to sell Harvey Barnes for £35m or more. Leeds have brought no one in at all and offloaded a couple on season loans, so not sure what you mean about them affording players.
-
Yeah, sure. However, the money we get for the players we sell will more likely be used to pay for the players we brought in over the last 12 months.
-
Is he better or worse than Perraud?
-
Sounds about right. we are not going to sign better players in the championship, but the quality of opponent is obviously going down too, so get the right guys in and we may be stronger in relative terms defensively.
-
If he comes to us and not to Sheff United and Burnley in the Prem, then you would have to conclude that they simply didn't want him. You don't turn down a move to the Prem if its there. The fact he is a free transfer and hasn't been snapped up by a Prem side already makes me question just how good he is. I've not seen him play. Anyone able to describe his strong attributes?
-
Perraud was also linked to Leeds before we signed him. Junior Firpo was linked to Saints before Leeds signed him. Once again we seem to have our left back signing cycle in perfect sync.
-
I think we might be reluctant to pay £100k in the championship. There are some pretty strict rules about how much losses we can make over the next couple of years.
-
Agree, although they are trying to offload Dendoncker.
-
Dragowski signed a three year deal with Spezia last summer and played 35 games in Seria A last season for them. I thought we weren't able to sign him because he wouldn't get a work permit? Has that situation changed? Feels like that ship has sailed.

Union Berlin take David Fofana on loan for the season from Chelsea. Perhaps ends their interest (if there ever was any) in Onuachu?
-
Not seen any/many posts on here complaining about our slowness to do business to be fair, but seeing the headline `Arsenal close in on Rice' really shows just how long some transfers can take if things don't align perfectly. That deal seems to have gone on for bloody ages. It might be that, unlike other deals, the general public saw when negotiations actually began - I think they only got started once the European final had been played - when perhaps normally they would have began weeks or even months before. As soon as Rice to Arsenal is completed will West Ham firm up/make their bid for JWP?

No fan of sponsors on the shirts, but its exactly what that shirt needs, a contrasting colour. The kit as a whole is crying out for a proper full colour Saints badge to break up the monotone colouring, which becomes a little boring/plain. Should have gone with white shorts/socks too.
-
the sponsor looks shite. The monotone badge ain't great either IMO.
-
as always, the Hummell keeper kits are great.

It was reported in The Athletic that he was left out due to doubts about his commitment to the cause, which differs in tone to your `not selected because he hadn't signed a new contract': https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/23445574.southampton-defender-reportedly-left-due-commitment-doubts/ When asked about it, Selles denied that was the case (or skirted around the subject a little, depending on your point of view), pointing to his injury issues: https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/23456230.southamptons-selles-responds-report-salisu-commitment-issue/ The fact is, he was injured. He pulled out of the international games, so there was no reason why he would start in the games straight after. However, maybe he wasn't doing enough in training. Who knows.
