  1. This is true. Unfortunately we spent £130m last season and we've only received about £5m for Romeu and £2m for Orsic so far (plus a sizeable amount for JJ Morgan I might add). Perhaps the only way to feel excited is to consider Alcaraz and Sulemana as new signings (assuming they stay) who could tear this league up now they are settled (assuming they are).
  2. is he the new Pirlo? The BBC used to wank all over him too, even when he could hardly fukcing move, so probably not surprising.
  3. What are you on about? We've not given Ely a new contract and got almost half our money back for Orisic. It's been a bloody brilliant window so far.
  4. Fair point, but I thought a move to Everton was all but done last summer only for Saints to put a block on it as they couldn't get a replacement striker through the door. Maybe I was mistaken. I'm kind of goals he didn't get a new deal. I suspect he wanted a shit load of money, and IMO he hasn't done enough to justify it. At some point we are going to have to move on from him. This summer with £15m in our pocket might be better than next summer with nothing. As always, players leaving is not my concern. What they are replaced with is.
  5. From the reports (The Athletic), that has been our exact response to Newcastle. Whether it's a brilliant bluff, or SR actually is willing to carry the debt (and add to it this season), we certainly don't seem to be looking to recoup the recent spend quickly to allow us to replace quickly. Not sure Livramento is worth £50m, but £15m did seem to be taking the piss - hence pretty easy for the club to dismiss. It seems to have risen to £21m. If it gets to £30m, we will see the resolve of the club, all be it the income wouldn't be anywhere near that once Chelsea too their cut.
  6. He didn't sign a contract with Saints last summer. Either we didn't offer one, in which case he'd be looking elsewhere, or we didn't offer one to his liking, in which case he'd be looking elsewhere.
  7. I'm pretty sure Onuachu could handle the scuffed shots bit. Not sure about the open goals.
  8. Likewise. It felt like he wanted the move last summer and so if that was the case he'll certainly want it this. I know may want to keep him and we don't have a lot up front, but we sell now, we get a replacement for the next three years. Keep him and we get one one season to ge promoted and then we have £0m to replace him should we fail. As always, its all about what we do with the money we get in for him. £15m is a decent amount in the Championship.
  9. Not sure I see him as a pure defensive holding midfielder, but he certainly has the quality to keep the ball and play in tight places. He's a good player at our level. whether he will be willing to drop a level is really debatable.
  10. Gets him off our wage bill for a year. Didn't Deli Ali go there? Loan with possible transfer that never happened?
  11. Not surprised we haven't bought anyone. Our squad is massive and we've only sold Orsic so far. Hopefully if jwp and Lavia depart, we get top dollar for them. Prefer £50m in August than £35m today. Whether it plays out like that, I'm not sure. It's going to be fascinating to see how our summer will go.
  12. There's some nice attributes there, but we need to see improvement this season. I'm hoping he's a revelation and scores twenty goals. Not sure where the chances are coming from though.
  13. Allowing a £40m talent like Tielmans walk on a free does not strike me as being very organised. Unlike Leicester who have lost a lot of players that are out of contract, we have to wait until clubs buy ours before we can replace them. what do you suggest we do differently?
  14. We should have signed him immediately after he `rag dolled' us in the preseason game.
  15. You mean our level? I reckon 'ull will go well next season. Could well be there or there abouts.
  16. bizarre. Hopefully they struggle early doors to our benefit
  17. https://insidefutbol.com/2023/06/30/club-not-as-far-down-line-with-swoop-for-southampton-man-as-claimed-fierce-competition/608865/
  18. I think the fact they have reportedly requested £50m for JWP and £50m for Livramento backs that up. Early days though. What we say we want and what we settle for are not the same. I think we requested €4m for Orsic and appear to havre got close to that. Still a sizeable loss on the £8m we paud for him (possibly) mind you.
  19. The Athletic says deal was €4m including bonus https://theathletic.com/4646814/2023/06/28/southampton-transfer-mislav-orsic/
  20. https://turkish-football.com/southampton-midfielder-confirms-3-5m-move-to-turkey/ mentions that Caleta-Car may also sign for them.
  21. Another summer, another complete mess in terms of goalkeepers. Is McCarthy first choice now or was he picked just to be in the shop window? If his wage 60% of the £90k a week, or is it 60% of the reduced wage because he didn't play enough games last year? Will Lis be part of the goalkeeping set up this season? He doesn't appear in the Saints first team profiles. I'm surprised Cabellero has got a new deal. Perhaps that is a sign that McCarthy will depart, although not sure who is loaning/buying him. Are none of the young B team keepers deemed good enough to be considered 3rd choice (maybe even 4th choice?)
  22. aren't Schalke in the German second division?
  23. Why doesn't Lis appear in the men's first team profile listing? https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/teams/mens-team I am confused why we signed a 25 year old and then loaned him out to Troyes for a season. I am now confused why he is not recognised as a Saints player full stop.
  24. There's me thinking the chairman had simply refused to not sell Josh Windass. The championship has no money. Giving everyone a 300% raise would be challenging. Maybe the Sheff Wednesday owner wants to avoid the tens of millions of losses each year many clubs are willing to make to try and make it into the prem.
  25. It's a top 8 team. A team that plays in Europe most years. A team that made the CL final. A team with a billion pound stadium. Hoj off to Athletico possibly. Maybe a space opening up? Liverpool signing Dominik Sziboslai (midfielder from RB Leipzig). A space disappears.
