I have posted something similar a few times. The Athletic suggested in one article that the clauses combine, but its speculation on their part. As you say. Why not just say £32m buy back and 20% sell on.
-
20% of £45m is £9m. £45-£9m = £36m (not £38m) If you wanted £38m in you pocket, we'd need to sell for £47.5m.

I've no idea who your post was aimed at, but whoever it was is probably making some reasonable points, because how much we sell Lavia for will directly impact how we line up on the first day. An extra £10m will make a big difference to the overall budget and available funds to sign and pay players. How much money you have to spend on players (that will actually play for us) will have a major bearing on results. Obviously we need to spend well, coach them well, play well...but `money in and money out' is not `made up, pie in the sky bollix', it's just the business side of football. If that's not something you give a fuck about, fine, maybe come back on here when preseason starts and then you can discuss the squad, line ups and tactics. You'll then have eight or nine months to go into intrinsic detail.
-
OK. So, what are you suggesting? Not to sell anyone that is good because it will make us weaker?
-
I suspect his head is in Bournemouth now. He isn't and hasn't ever bene the greatest, but I doubt we will have better playing for us next season at CB.
-
wondering how it will look with long sleeves without them. Weird probably.
-
I know the Athletic suggested it in one article, but I find it hard to believe that the buy back and sell on clauses combine for City. Why not just say 20% sell on and £32m buy back? you are right though. Once you pay the clauses, agents fee and probably a loyalty bonus to the player, our final take isn't going to be anywhere £50m thats for sure.

Yeah, not great, but I'd be more worried about about whether our academy will be able to attract talent like them in the first place.
-
Easier said than done. I think we are going to have to chuck a lot of money at him, as Chelsea did at Jimmy Jay. If he plays games that will attract buyers and push his wage demands up, If he doesn't play games, he isn't going to sign. He may as well earn a fortune elsewhere and not plat games as do so here.
-
which means we need to sell players with at least two years to go, which we could have done with both Salisu and Che by the sounds of things. I guess it depends on the offers, amount and when you get them (have you time to replace)...
-
which included a £10m loan fee for the last 18months.

Lots of plates spinning is absolutely spot on. It is going to be a very difficult summer. One issue is if you turn down an early offer, then that buying club doesn't come back later - they may have moved on to other targets. It would be great if we could get a few that don't want be here like Salisu and Orsic out the door early. Likewise, the premium guys like Lavia and JWP, which would balance the books and really help us understand what budget we have to play with and how strong we can be with other offers for other players.
-
what you are really saying is, what would help the lad is not having any saves to make.
-
never understood why some modern football shirts have collars. Looks over fussy and feels old hat to me.
-
Like you say, we can't dictate when offers will come in. Everyone expects us to bring in a fortune from our `star players', but until that actually happens, each offer for our lessor players needs to be carefully considered both fro a football and financial point of view as we do need to get some of the £130m we have spent back and to reduce the wage bill.

Surprised Vasco are going to break their transfer record on Lyanco. Wonder how many games he needs to play.
-
Does that mean the following (who were on the 2023 list) have new (but unannounced) contracts: Oliver Wright* Will Armitage* Olly Lancashire Sam Bailey Ryan Finnigan Luke Pearce*
-
Just having a guy you can reply on to win headers from opposing corners etc would be a start. He doesn't boss things. On the flip side, he has the ball skills to allow us to play out from the back, but what's the point if we concede lots of set piece goals.
-
Spurs offering £50m for Maddison and Barnes according to the Mail. Those fuckers don't half take the piss with their low ball bids. Another potential JWP destination disappearing ...possibly?
-
Not sure. If there is an obligation to buy, then they must be able to afford his wages going forward. Those wages must be relatively low, as there is fuck all money in Brazilian football right now. He hasn't got game time, so from his point of view, he will be probably be keen for a move. I wonder how many games he will need to play. We'll be keeping an eye on that all season.
-
Surprised they can afford his wages, even with a cut. Maybe we didn't need to throw money at him to sign from torino. In terms of transfer fees, Vasco spent £3m on a player last summer, but before that it was almost all free transfers.
-
feels like the conversation may have been along the lines of `will you possibly come back to play for one of the other top Argentina sides' and he's saying `he would prefer to continue/progress his career over here in England. He wants to play in the Prem'. If a Saints player said "I'm not interested in moving, I want to stay here and get the side promoted after being partly responsible for relegation" we as fans would lap it up, but it would be bullshit. They all want to be earning 100% of their wage, not 60%, and all want to be playing in the top league. If any Prem side offered them that opportunity, they would not turn it down. They key with all these Saints players from our point of view is, how will they react when we turn down Prem offers that don't meet our valuations. It will be very hard for them to accept the situation.
-
Fair point, but unless the other clubs stump up the cash, maybe West Ham will be the only option this summer. I wonder how he is going to react to us turning down approaches from the big sides. It could get messy. Note, that I am still talking about Lavia here, not JWP.
-
If the really top clubs don't want him this summer, are they more likely to come back next summer with bigger offers after seeing what he can do in the Championship. West Ham seems a decent step to me. They haven't stopped the lies of Defore, Lampard, Johnson, Cole, Ferdinand, Carrick in the past (and Rice now) from making moves.
-
big strong lad. I suspect the whole of the championship will want to loan him.
