    Gao FT article

if you can keep the club in the top flight whilst remain self sufficient, he can sell the club at a profit when the time comes...it's very much like buying a house, having the SKY TV money pay the mortgage (wages) and with a rising market over the next ten years and it will be worth £300m instead of £200m.
  2. for me it was strange signing and I thought as much at the time. Why spend so much energy scouting and investigating the right type of players to bring to the club and then go ahead and sign an obviously injury prone player? The low fee might have impressed some, but it was clearly offset by a huge wage. Whether it's £70k a week or £100k a week, as suggested by the West Ham chairman, it was certainly a lot for a guy that is injured a lot. That aside, I have been disappointed that he has not resembled that Swindon player that ran us ragged back in the league one days. Where was the same sharpness, movement and pace? Having said that, the finishing prowess hasn't been too bad and when a chance is created he hasn't let us down. Perhaps we haven't played to his strengths by getting lots and lots of crosses in the box. Prior to last season I thought we messed about a lot with strikers. Gabbi was in good form preseason and then not picked. By the time he was he had lost his form. We then sign Carrillo... lets not go over that again, but perhaps the management have not helped things. IMO we desperately needed a player that could lead the line, like Pele did, or a completely different type of player that could create and score goals out of nothing. I think we still need that and maybe Adams can offer more.
  3. that's exactly what happened. Jutkiewicz worked his socks off and had a good season. I guess it raises a question mark as to whether Adams can lead the line on his own. If he plays with someone like Redmond or Ings he isn't going to have that physical presence next to him. doesn't mean he won't be successful. It's worth noting that until Gary Monk got hold of him, Adams' career was drifting a bit. We are effectively buying a player with one good season, although to be fair, he is relatively young. My bluenose friend feels he is a good fit for us.
  4. do I need to repeat after every rain storm or is one experience enough to put the fukkers off for life?

  6. Clarke on his way and Lowe to follow him out the door. They will generate decent funds, but as we know to our cost you have to spend it wisely
  7. not a bad shout that. He has had a terrific season after scoring goals for Wimbledon and Falkirk. Only got 12 months left on his contract, so doubt we'd need to spend anywhere near £7m. It won't happen.
  8. sell Targett, buy Ryan Sessegnon, or Jamal Lewis, or Justin Jones or anyone with Targett's first touch and Bertrand's pace
  9. his Dad is a Leeds fan, his family all Leeds fans and Jack himself is a Leeds fan. Might be true, or might just be a little of 2+2=5.
  10. this is absolutely brilliant news. Hope it is genuine interest. Getting him off our wage bill is essential, no matter what the loss on the fee.
  11. it's not alarming.Their budget is pretty similar to ours and they have not ladened themselves with quite so many monstrous contracts, a la Forster, on players that never play. They also still have a few players they brought with them on their promotions, and they will inevitably be on lessor contracts than big signing coming in, even if they have been increased during their time in the top flight. That's before we look at their owner and his willingness to back the side with funds/loans.
  12. good player who had a very good season at Luton, often playing slightly further forward and on the other side, which with our lack of cover at right back might be a very good thing. I'd be surprised if we bought him, but once again would be happy that we were looking at the lower leagues as there is talent there.
  13. diuplicate post
  14. that could be a blessing, but of course depends on the quality of player we bring in. Someone of a similar age but with a bit more pace.
  15. there is probably a thread to talk about this, and if you visit it you will find me absent because I'm too busy here taking the **** out of UA for their lack of shirt design skills.
  16. you are right, if you don't like people moaning on forums, don't go on a forum
  17. the skates have been looking at Andrade I think
  18. yeah, terrible sponsor logo apart, it looks OK in the pics to me (not seen them close up for real mind). If, as Pugwash suggests, that element will be improved on the final item, then so much the better. Always like a white away kit myself. Still no excuse for the terrible black chest/shoulder plate on the home kit, even if you can see that they are trying to be `consistent' across the three kits.
  19. As it stand we are one of about 7 clubs that could go down, but should we somehow manage to get rid of the increasingly large pile of dead wood, then we might just have the opportunity to bring in some alternatives that may be better, maybe. So, with that in mind 14th-17th then, maybe.
  20. depends, if the replacement wife I found, perhaps having listened to bad advice from a colleague, turned out to be a complete nightmare and I was desperate for her to leave, then perhaps the returning ex wife, trying overly hard to please, would be ever so slightly appealing. Also, if the ex wife hadn't actually cheated on me, but instead had just grown apart and then found a richer better looking man, perhaps I wouldn't be quite so angry with her. Obviously if I could offload the current wife and then somehow find a wonderful young lady that really loves me and together makes us both incredibly happy, then that might be the better path to take.
  21. having signed that five year deal instead of jumping ship and then taken us on the footballing ride of our lives, he could reasonably assume to have been considered an absolute Saints legend. However, having forced his way out of the club, threatening to go on strike, I am not sure Saints fans can now think of him in any other way than just ****ing nivea boy. Yeah, yeah, I know the game and I know you can't hold players back from earning fame and fortune on a bigger stage etc., but who is to say that if he had signed another five year deal he couldn't have taken his club, and our club club into Europe and beyond and made us the bigger stage. OK you don't get much bigger than Liverpool, but we did make Europe without him and that was very special for the club and he should have been central to that. As much as I absolutely loved watching him play for us, IMO he should **** off back to Bournemouth and let us find the next Saints legend. Having said all that, if he did re-sign then I would reluctantly support him as I do every player that wants to be here. Assuming he really wanted to be here of course.

    Non-Saints Games

Fulham had that exact same problem and it didn't turn out well.
  23. Maybe, but he lacks lightening pace, isn't fantastic in the air or at holding the ball up and is the most one footed player I have ever seen. That's not to say I wouldn't want to see him at Saints, but there are elements to his game that will put some scouts/clubs off. I spoke with a Brummie friend at the weekend and he thought we'd be a good fit and said he thought Norwich, Palace and Saints were the clubs really in for him.
  24. jesus, the logo looks like a complete afterthought. Did they not consider a reversed out version on the away kit or has LD Sports not yet got round to producing one of those? What am I talking about. The only ones with less idea about design than UA is `sports marketer' LD Sports.
  25. what is UA's obsession with having a chest plate/bra/bib type thing on our shirts? The block of black looks terrible.
