Never have I seen Saints playing such beautiful football
Chez replied to Singapore Saint's topic in The Saints
I'm almost (but not totally) the opposite. I can enjoy a game that we don't win, so long as we play well. Performance does matter IMO, as you can't play **** and win regularly. Continue to play well, control games and create chances and eventually you will win games...well that's my theory. Simply controlling the game is not enough mind you. There has to be chances created too. -
nice work. Enjoy the game. Same to you Eddie.

he has another year on his contract. No one will come in to buy him in the summer and so we will probably offer him out on loan in the hope that someone might take him off our hands in January, which they won't.

Cuco is the best sh!t footballer I have ever seen. ...no matter how much you want to dislike him and how unnatural he looks on the ball, he just keeps on doing the type of things you want a full back to do - get up ad down and overlap all day long, get to the byline, keep it simple, make himself available, make tackles and win headers. Sadly he was a step down from what we had before him, but still a millions times better than someone like Nyom (who is the Ali Dia that got away with it).

Chelsea are after a number 2 and they don't tend to settle for average. Arsenal's number two has made noises about leaving, so they could be in the same boat. David de Gea will no doubt be linked with Real Madrid all summer...but go nowhere. I wonder if Pep will swallow his pride and accept Bravo was a poor signing. If he did I doubt he'd do it twice and accept Harte back into the fold.

not sure the club ever actually said it was a `minor groin strain'. Tricky injury. Rush him back too early and there is a danger he will do further damage and he will miss the rest of the season. The slight positive is that it gives Puel an excellent opportunity to really evaluate Long and Rodriguez before the summer coming and goings.

freedom of movement for players has changed the landscape since 1995, so its maybe its not quite fair to compare now with days gone by, but since the Bosman ruling I don't recall too many of our players resisting the lure of the dollar and staying put. Players have been sold to balance the books and because they wanted a move. That is how it will always be until we have a side full of **** that no one wants (which has been the case at times). Hopefully we can keep recruiting well and top notch youngsters keep coming through to prevent that happening. Actually, I guess with the extra money in the Prem these days you could say that our place in the footballing pyramid has improved, but its all relative and unless you are at the top you will always be eaten by bigger fish.

in the past you have said that results are all that matters, I don't know if that is still how you feel, but if it is, is there a specific number of points/league position you had in mind that would mean he is cutting it?

About time new season ticket holders could buy a ticket for the same price as an existing season ticket holder. Not terribly impressed at people on here upset about it. Anyone willing to stump up £600 to watch Saints should be welcomed with open arms. Why would you not want more of these committed fans to stand alongside you cheering the team on?
-
you really think so?
-
is he worth £30m?
-
brum fans singing it in 2002

you've lost me. Who will make sure?

Pretty sure I was at a Brum game in 1996 and they were singing that song. Might be mistaken, but I know they have been singing that for years.

Interesting that Williams recognises the need to move away from a fan owned club http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/ex-pompey-board-member-williams-eisner-gets-my-vote-1-7876812 and already seems sold on Eisner (after the number of times they have been suckered I think I'd be more guarded with my opinion about the potential new owner). I know we have been going on about it on here for ages, but the cost of maintaining Sh!t Park and ensuring it meets health and safety requirements really seems to have become a problem. One that is too big to be covered by day to day income. Investment has become a necessity not a nicety.

Why do you say that? The trust shareholding will either be for or against a sale. So as far as I can see, unless 1214 (over half) of the 2,426 trust shareholders vote to sell, then the entire 48.48% share of the club will be voting against a sale. That would be more then enough to block a complete takeover.

My email to the club concerningpre-game music and atmosphere

I'll be your saint by Adorable is not only the perfect tune for the job, its also a bloody great song by a brilliant band. You are welcome. -
So they have been actively seeking investment since September and work on the Milton and North stand is "urgent".

I was going to say the same thing. We were a little open at that point, but he did excellently. Good that others noticed that, because usually defenders mistakes are the only thing that sticks in fans mind. I have to say I thought he looked decent enough yesterday. I wonder if a CB could have stepped out to Erikson, but equally where was the defensive midfielder filling that same space? I thought our problems were more down to the inability of our midfield to compete, not the two CBs being weak. One thing I will say is that our lack of physicality, specifically strength in the air, concerned me a little during the Watford game. It certainly wasn't like Bennett getting mugged by Henderson all the way back in 2008, but it was the first time in years that I have been nervous about our ability to defend set pieces and long throws. We have been spoilt by the likes of Radhi Jaidi, Fonte and VVD in terms of arial ability. The current two are slightly unconvincing in that department. It took years for Yoshida to get nasty and start winning the majority of headers. Stephens needs to be a little `nastier' too IMO. Do that and I can start relax again. Heading aside, there are so many positives to Jack's game. First and foremost he looks a top notch footballer, absolutely brimming with confidence and so composed on the ball. The way he brings it down and plays is a joy to watch. He's going to get caught in possession every now and then, and fans might get on his back a la John Stones, but the extra ball (retention) we see due to him being unwilling to put his foot through it, really does help us. The cup final was a fantastic example. Time after time he wins the ball, takes his time and picks a pass. Yoshida does that too I might add. I have to say, personally I am pleased he has retained the shirt. It is very difficult for young CB to get experience in Prem sides. Apart from the promoted sides, the CBs are usually very experienced players and the younger players struggle to get a chance. I have no idea how good Caceres is right now, but this is fantastic for Jack's development. I cant remember the last decent CB we brought through the ranks. CB and GK have been positions we have really struggled.

He was certainly ineffective coming on in the cup final, but if you watched the Swansea game you will have seen a player come off the bench and literally run rings round the opponent. He was absolutely sensational. It should be noted that flair players have those days when the tricks and flicks don't come off. You can count the flair players on one hand who's tricks come off every single week. I watched Messi against PSG at their place and he gave the ball away all game - and we are talking about the World's best ever player. There is no comparison between the two. I'm just saying that players that dribble and actually attempt to beat a man (pretty much the toughest thing to do in football) don't always manage it. What's important is that they have the courage to come back next week and try it all again and hopefully succeeding. Not sure where this `poor attitude' comes from. I haven't watched the U23 game, so missed that. What I have seen is a player wiling to up sticks and move to a new country and face the less than perfect task of going straight into the physio room. When given his chance he has really gone for it, perhaps trying too hard at times, but when you have the ability to do things like this and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H6TNY5vK1M then I'm more than happy to see him attempt it. In my eyes he is a tremendous talent. It's up to Puel to get the best out of him. Brilliant asset.

I actually preferred him when he gamely bombed up and down the line for us in League 1. Seems a totally different player now. Much more measured, probably a better all round game, but I'm not sure he is a stand out central midfielder, whilst I thought he was a stand out right midfielder able to get up and down, make the right choices but also have the pace and flair to do damage in the final third. I cant remember the last time I saw him beat a man for Arsenal. Obviously hes playing at a totally different level, so waltzing past fullbacks is not as easy as it was in league 1, but he just never does that, which is a shame.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo. Not the players car park. Best bit of tarmac this side of Fareham...bastards.

Prem money alone last season was £84.5. Add to that the revenue from the cups, sponsorship and gate receipts and you get an idea of how much there is to (and we do) spend.

Swiss Ramble http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Southampton suggested it was £72.1m back in 2015, so you'd imagine it was considerably higher now with the likes of Austin, Forster and VanDjik signing huge new contracts.
