Spurs bought Hutton who turned out to be pretty ****. They weren't top four then. Everton signed McFadden in 2003 and got in the champions league 2 seasons later. Liverpool bought Daniel Wilson from Rangers in 2010. Again they weren't top four either. Sunderland spent £9m on Craig Gordon from Hearts. and Villa bought Petrov. good point, but don't confuse players that plat in league 1 for players that are of league 1 standard. Just because we are top of the league shouldn't mean we shouldn't buy players from teams below us in the football pyramid.
