  1. One thing Saints will never be is predictable…. Expect them to win? They’ll often let us down. Expect them to get turned over? They’ll produce a spirited, ‘against the odds’ display, just like they did against Leicester City. TSP159 reflects on a game that oozed determination, achieved 10/10 player ratings and (*quelle surprise*)….included more VAR controversy! Next up is the trip to Anfield, as Ralph and the lads try to finish this season in a positive manner. Could that mean a rare Premier League ‘double’ over Liverpool? You’ll have to listen to the match preview (38:30) to find out what we think… We also discuss Martin Semmens being linked with Manchester United and provide an update on the latest TSP FPL standings (34:15). If you'd like to listen to the Podcast, you can find it via any of these links: acast: https://bit.ly/3nGWqLw Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/3gpCaga iTunes: https://apple.co/33bhOPC SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3aXl3hQ Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2RkDmqk
  2. Saints suffered FA Cup Semi-Final heartache at Wembley, after a thoroughly lacklustre showing against Leicester City. Despite Ralph Hasenhüttl saying his team ‘left everything out on the pitch’, TSP discuss, amongst other post-match reaction, whether we agree with that opinion…..or not! TSP158 also includes conversation about the proposed (..../disgraceful!) European Super League (26:30) and previews Saints’ next match, against a Jose Mourinho-less Tottenham Hotspur (42:20). 3. Cup fever is starting to intensify in and around Southampton (well…..it was pre-West Brom anyway!), with Saints set to take on Leicester City in next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. This week we're joined by Simon Peach (PA Media) to preview another pivotal match in the Club’s history (50:15). Jamie (Leicester Fan TV) also provides an ‘opposition view’ from the Foxes camp (59:25). Ahead of that Wembley build-up, the guys reflect on Saints latest Premier League match – a dreadful 3-0 loss vs Sam Allardyce’s Baggies. TSP157 also includes the final ‘International Supporters Club’ of the season, a feature which has racked up over 30,000 ‘virtual miles’! Victor Galea (Southampton FC Malta) brings down the curtain on a thoroughly interesting and enjoyable look at life inside various #GlobalSFC supporter groups (30:10). 4. A quiet, uneventful return to Premier League action for Saints? When have they ever been known to do that?! Instead, after an end-to-end, rollercoaster of a match, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side secured a fantastic 3-2 win over Burnley. We work our way through the key moments, players and decisions from another tough – and emotionally draining – Premier League battle. Sean Dyche also pops in (again) to provide some post-match reaction. TSP156 also previews next week’s visit to the Hawthorns, as Saints take on Sam Allardyce’s West Bromwich Albion (32:00). 5. Saints cruised through to the FA Cup Semi-finals thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win over Bournemouth. We look back at a dominant showing from Hampshire’s premier football team, including standout performances by Nathan Redmond and Stuart Armstrong. TSP155 also sees the panel answer several listener questions, including whether Danny Ings might need to be sold this summer (30:15), possible touchline support for Ralph Hasenhüttl (37:05) and the SFC Playbook’s progress (or not) (43:05). Lastly, Chéle became McChéle earlier this week. An achievement TSP simply have to acknowledge! 6. Thanks @Sunglasses Ron / @Mr Saints / @Snopper - we appreciate it/you sticking with us! Hopefully the conversation can become a little more 'positive' over the next few weeks.... B
  7. Saints did their best to ruin Mother’s Day by putting in an excruciating performance against Brighton & Hove Albion. With Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side showing little desire or urgency, it was no surprise to see The Seagulls eventually win 2-1. We try to dissect what is (or isn’t…..!) going on with the team, after yet another disappointing week. TSP154 also includes a preview of next weekend’s FA Cup Quarter-Final visit to Bournemouth (31:15). If Saints can secure victory then, despite the current Premier League ‘doom and gloom’, Wembley will be waiting! 8. Saints finally secured a much-needed Premier League win, thanks to a convincing 2-0 victory over Sheffield United. We purr over Nathan Tella’s performance at Bramall Lane, Che Adams ‘thunderb*stard’, the importance of Kyle Walker-Peters, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s 100th game in charge of Saints and much more! TSP153 also includes the latest ‘International Supporters Club’, as Alec Weise from Milwaukee, Wisconsin drops in for a chat about 'all things Saints/USA’ (26:25)! The Pod finishes with a look ahead to the next two fixtures for Hasenhüttl’s side. Firstly, the daunting trip to ‘champions-elect’, Manchester City (49:40), on Wednesday. Secondly, Brighton and Hove Albion’s visit to St. Mary’s next weekend (59:15). If you'd like to listen to the Pod you can find it via any of the below links:acast: https://bit.ly/3qm8NMN Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/2MxLhP6 iTunes: https://apple.co/3rrtt7C SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3kUDKXjSpotify: https://spoti.fi/2ObpkGr
  9. It was another 'game of two halves’ for Saints at Elland Road during the week. Despite playing pretty well in the first 45 minutes – but yet again not taking our chances – Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side eventually lost 3-0 to Leeds. Worryingly, the Austrian even called the players out publicly for ‘giving up’! Chat covers a dodgy pitch, dodgy result and even dodgier run of form! TSP152 also includes a look ahead to two more Premier League fixtures this coming week – the trip to Everton (24:55) on Monday (where we haven’t won in the league since 1997!) and then next weekend’s visit to Sheffield United (35:40). It’s taken a while, but finally that famous TSP question is raised once again…..could the Blades match be deemed ‘must win’ for Saints?! acast: https://bit.ly/3dXdDOe Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/2MxLhP6 iTunes: https://apple.co/3b58tO0 SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3bMspVk Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3bN8VzQ
  10. “What’s that in the rear-view mirror?” “That, my friend, is 29 points!!” Yes, after a loooong 48 days, Saints finally moved on to 30 Premier League points, courtesy of a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Chelsea. We discuss a resolute Saints performance, some Minamino magic, possession stats and Alex McCarthy’s ‘penalty-saving record’. TSP151 also looks ahead to Tuesday night’s rearranged game with Leeds United, as Ralph Hasenhüttl and the lads head for Elland Road (41:45). 11. TSP celebrate their 150th episode in true Saints style! During the course of Southampton Football Club’s 135-year history, one moment still stands out above any other – the 1st May 1976. It was the day Saints upset all the odds to beat Manchester United and win the FA Cup. The man behind that success was Lawrie McMenemy – and he joins TSP150 to chat exclusively about a 50-year love affair with the Club. Speaking with Ben Stanfield (Host) and Glen de la Cour (League One Minus 10), Lawrie recalls first joining Saints in 1973, Terry Paine frustrations, the famous FA Cup run, his Wembley memories, that Bobby Stokes goal, the subsequent homecoming, stunning world football by signing Kevin Keegan, Rupert Lowe and much more! It’s 90 minutes of unique opinion and storytelling by Southampton’s most successful ever manager. acast: https://bit.ly/3dkfBYB Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/3dnjfAV iTunes: https://apple.co/2ZoC6mY SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3pufM5Z Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3qsiVoa
  12. In true Saints style, it’s been a week of two halves!Having beaten Wolves in the FA Cup on Thursday – which set-up a Quarter-Final tie with Bournemouth – the Midlands side then got their revenge in the Premier League. The latter was Saints sixth league defeat in a row (an unwanted Club record!).We discuss the more notable moments across both games – including Mohammed Salisu’s debut and a belting volley from Danny Ings.TSP149 also includes the latest International Supporters Club. February’s edition comes from one of the sunniest countries in the world (thankfully – as we could do with a little sunshine at the moment!). Panos Grigorakakis, from the Greek Saints, drops in for a chat on all things Hellenic (35:45).Finally, there’s a preview of next weekend’s fixture against Chelsea, as Thomas Tuchel brings his new side to St. Mary’s (46:50).acast: https://bit.ly/37gKo4BAmazon Music: https://amzn.to/37fZyqWiTunes: https://apple.co/2OtvUI3SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3al6ZiASpotify: https://spoti.fi/3rRGKpK
  13. Having had so many enjoyable weeks during the first half of the season, the past seven days are better best forgotten if you’re a Saints fan! Saturday's 3-2 reverse at Newcastle United saw Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side record five Premier League defeats in a row for the first time since 1998! TSP148 sees the regular panel try to come to terms with yet more defensive woe, this time at St. James’ Park. The Pod episode also includes thoughts on a very topical question right now – VAR decision making. A TSP patron asks whether or not discussions (between on-field and Stockley Park officials) should be made ‘public’ for all to hear – thus helping to better understand the eventual outcome(s)…..or not?! (30:30). Lastly, ahead of back-to-back games with Wolves – firstly in the FA Cup and then in the Premier League – there is a preview of this coming week’s action (41.55). If you'd like to listen, you can find episode 148 via any of these links: acast: https://bit.ly/39Yj3Gh Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/3jqVpoS iTunes: https://apple.co/3aEkLvw SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3jtBDZT Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2Z1g4q1

  15. VARstrating? VARcical? VARiable? VARking annoying(!!)? Call it what you want….!Yes, while Saints could have played better against Aston Villa, VAR (….and the humans operating it!) once again stole all the headlines.Despite a large amount of post-match emotion, Ben, Steve, Glen, Dan Sheldon (The Athletic) and Simon Peach (PA Media) do their best to exchange professional opinion on handballs, offsides, injuries and more!TSP147 also covers Monday’s deadline day (41:40), a lesser-spotted transfer request (47:15) and the latest TSP Fantasy Premier League standings (40:00).Lastly, ahead of tomorrow's trip to Old Trafford, there is a preview of the Manchester United game (52:35).If you'd like to listen then you can catch the Pod via the following links:acast: https://bit.ly/3teuG3qAmazon Music: https://amzn.to/3c8Ik1ViTunes: https://apple.co/39ANe6fSoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3aik6QoSpotify: https://spoti.fi/2Mfq1Oa
  16. Saints secured their place in the FA Cup Fifth-Round, thanks to a well-deserved victory over current holders, Arsenal.Despite having to manage the world-class threat of Cedric Soares (and his ‘phenomenal crossing’….!), Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side showed plenty of energy and commitment throughout.Ben, Steve, Glen and Dan (Sheldon) reflect on the 1-0 win, alongside previewing Tuesday’s Premier League clash with The Gunners.TSP146 also includes a look at this week’s hummel (new kit deal) announcement (37:25) – reigniting a 30-year love affair with Saints – as well as Ghanaian side, Asante Kotoko SC, joining our International Club Partnership programme (39:25).Finally, there’s the latest view on Danny Ings ‘will he won’t he’ contract situation - aka ‘Ingsgate’ (44:25)!If you'd like to listen to the Pod episode, you can find it via any of these links:acast: https://bit.ly/2LRsRIZAmazon Music: https://amzn.to/3c8Ik1ViTunes: https://apple.co/2KQdkZqSoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3sWlq3FSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3pf0ra1
  17. It just wasn’t Saints’ night!Despite undoubted effort, a threadbare squad and lack of creativity ultimately saw them lose 2-0 to Leicester City. The TSP panel join forces once again to pick the bones out of that King Power fixture.Having reported a £76.1m pre-tax loss, TSP145 also delves into Saints latest 2019/20 financial results (59:15 - if you're particularly interested in that sort of thing!!).There’s discussion on FA Cup rescheduling, Shrewsbury Town (a preview of that game can be found in TSP143) and the potential now for two ties in five days (79:35).Lastly, TSP’s latest International Supporters Club features Trevor Foy – the President of the Southampton Australian Supporters group and one of the key cogs in the Global Saints community.Trevor chats to Ben (29:45) about life ‘down under’, the evolution of SAS, how he’s helped connect Saints fans around the world, Guly de Prado and more!If you'd like to listen to the Pod episode then you can find it via any of the following links:acast: https://bit.ly/2LHCXvNAmazon Music: https://amzn.to/3aeUENiiTunes: https://apple.co/3bPlmggSoundCloud: https://bit.ly/35OYolvSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3qt24kB
  18. With Saints FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town delayed (at least for now), TSP144 sees the regular panel start by answering some Patron questions. We cover a variety of topics including the January transfer window, the long-term future of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s ‘SFC playbook’, lockdown TV/book recommendations and more! Despite an ongoing desire to make TSP as professional in its production as possible, the first-batch of 2020/21 outtakes also rear their ugly head (46:30) – proving things don’t always go to plan (especially when you’re the host!). Lastly, ahead of visiting the King Power next weekend, there’s a preview of the Premier League fixture with Leicester City (54:55). If you'd like to listen to the Pod, you can find it via any of the below links: acast: https://bit.ly/38yUVckAmazon Music: https://amzn.to/3aeUENiiTunes: https://apple.co/2XraGMnSoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3bvbojMSpotify: https://spoti.fi/2XqN0aQ
  19. It was a result that had Ralph Hasenhüttl on his knees at full-time (thankfully, in a good way!). The Austrian, with tears of joy flowing into a well-established beard, saw his young Saints side – missing several key players – secure a hard-fought victory over Liverpool. In this bonus, mid-week 'bite size' episode, TSP143b sees us reflect on some clever set-piece work, Danny Ings 50th Premier League goal, numerous matchday Academy graduates and Hasenhüttl’s own post-match emotion. Its not often you beat the Champions, so a moment to treasure for every Saint around the world! You can find the Pod episode via any of the following links: acast: https://bit.ly/2XbBUXcAmazon Music: https://amzn.to/3aeUENiiTunes: https://apple.co/3b9PRwYSoundCloud: https://bit.ly/3oo3fkQSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3hQzAyb
  20. Yes, there was no way we could keep Glen waiting a whole week before celebrating his perfect predicition against them lot! 😉
  21. Happy New Year! Yes, TSP kick-off 2021 by reflecting on a ‘what might have been’ Christmas period for Saints. Two 0-0 draws – against Fulham and West Ham – bringing a couple of points, but not much excitement! We discuss some of the more interesting elements of those matches – including Saints manager, Ralph Hasenhüttl, having to ‘work from home’! TSP143 also includes previews of the Premier League fixture with Liverpool (23:15) and the FA Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town (38:15). Ahead of that St. Mary’s 3rd Round match, Ollie Warner (Host of Salopcast) drops in to give a more detailed ‘opposition view’ on Steve Cotterill’s League One side. 22. Well.....we've made it!! What a year its been. Despite many of us having various day-to-day battles to try and overcome, Saints have at least provided some consistent joy throughout 2020. I've tried to reflect on their progress - on and off the pitch - via the latest Total Saints Opinion. https://www.totalsaints.co.uk/post/total-saints-opinion-2020-a-year-to-forget-unless-you-re-saints Finally, I'd/we'd like to wish all of you a very Happy New Year. All the best for 2021! See you on the other side... B
  23. It was a case of ‘what might have been’ for Saints this week – with a frustrating draw at Arsenal followed up by a disappointing loss to Manchester City. However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side proved in both matches just how far they’ve come, giving more than competitive performances against two of the ‘Big 6’. The four of us get together for one last time in 2020, reflecting on the significant moments from those games. TSP142 also includes a preview of the upcoming Christmas fixture against Fulham and West Ham United (43:00), as well as the now traditional TSP Christmas Quiz (31:00) – but which panel member comes out victorious? If you'd like to listen to the Pod then you can get it via any of these channels: acast: https://bit.ly/3rfLgie Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/3aeUENi iTunes: https://apple.co/3p8XDuM SoundCloud: https://bit.ly/37BzvuQ Spotify: https://spoti.fi/37DdYSx Otherwise, thanks for listening to TSP in 2020, have a very Merry Christmas and lets all hope for a happier and healthier 2021!
  24. Thanks guys. Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully I did Sir Rickie justice! B
  25. Just in case you don't follow the Total Saints Podcast thread on here - but still fancy listening to Rickie Lambert talk about his journey with Saints - thought I would post this as a seperate 'one off' this time. Cheers B
