  1. Good point, but I would have to look up the names of the houses when it was Glen Eyre, as I really do not know any of them.
  2. Me and the wife are tend setters in names. 2001 we named our first daughter Holly, and it 2002 it was the most popular girls name. We called her Holly because we loved Buddy Holly at the time, and it just turns out she was born on Christmas Eve. 2008 our second daughter was born and we called her Olivia, and in 2009 Olivia was the most popular girls name!! Now we have a baby boy due on January 3rd 2012, now what should we call it??? I would like to call it King Kev II.
  3. My wife is a teacher so hates most of the names we come up with. We even resorted to looking at Eddie Stobbart names, but then found out it was a boy, so that one is out. We found it easier with girls names than we are boys!! But we are thinking Laurie!!
  4. Snap!!
  5. Polymond, Arundel, Nicholl and Woolbridge are all landmarks around Southampton. I know Polymond is a tower of the Bargate, Arundel was a tower as well as there used to be a building where the West Quay is now called Arundel Towers (office block) but I am sure it was named after an area nearby. They others you will have to look up. So just as important as peoples names I would say. I was at Cantell and in Polymond to 91 leaver!!
  6. Would only fit a wooden floor, as there is more room for error, as with carpet one false move and you have cost yourself a lot of money!!!
  7. I have NEVER been this confident in a Saints team, and once we went 1 up today I really did think that would be it. I did think this game today was going to be the biggest test yet, and that Brum would be very hard to breakdown, but as it was it was a walk in the park. Before the game, because of the name Birmingham I was thinking draw. Long may this continue, but as it is and in Saints fans nature, we expect the worse and the wheels to fall off any time soon!!
  8. Oh yeah??!!
  9. In my experience quite the opporsite, the players seem to do the bullying.
  10. Most of what you mention above is the rules that referees HAVE to follow, so really they are being made to look this way. I have made huge progress and want to carry on making progress and to do this I have to do really well when accessed. They are the rules, and we have to carry them out. Using one of your examples from above, if a free kick was taken from the wrong place and the team score, what sort of reaction do you think ref's would get from a) the oppo players b) the crowd?
  11. I try and explain my decisions, but at the end of the day, it is normally for a trip, push, climb, pull, or hand ball. I give the signal for each thing, and really do not know how to explain any more than, 'it was a push' a hand ball' It seems to me that the players do not want to talk to the ref, but just argue with them. It can be a clear foul, and they will still say NEVER REF!! I am not sure how they want to to explain any more to them that it was a foul. It is explained in one word most of the time.
  12. I think if the ball hits the hand in any way shape or form, it should be handball. A free kick or a pen. This would get rid of a huge grey area. Look at Hockey for example, if it hits your foot, it is a foul, if you meant it or not. The other one is when a player is tripped up, and they say 'he barley touch him' sorry but still a foul!!!
  13. Yep, when I first qualified I thought I will run the line, piece of cake that will be. then I was told all the ways you had to do things....I have to say I was amazed! Sideways running (crabbing) is so that you can look across the line for offsides, while also still facing the play. Also the same reason the ref looks an idiot when running backwards. They have to face the ball at all times, and of course make sure that no foul play is going on behind them as the keeper is walking out to take his drop kick after gathering the ball.
  14. When I run the line, I do find it hard. You are looking to see if the ball has gone out of play, and who off of last, across the line for offside, and for fouls. I find that listening is the best way, for when the ball is kicked, and look across the line, but still very hard. I think there should be a linesman on the runnig on the outside of the one who is already there looking for offsides, and the other linesman for fouls and the direction of the thrown in. It is a very very hard job to do, but they can be overrules by the ref of course for fouls and direction!
  15. As per instructed I am afriad, crabbing it is called, as you are suppose to face the pitch, unless you have to sprint. Also the flag has to be pitch side all the time and down low, unless you are giving a foul or a throw in of course, so the ref can see it clearly!!
  16. I love refereeing. Before every game I make it clear what I expect and that I will explain may decisions on what I believe. I have no reason to favour any one team over another. I always finish my talk to the teams with te statement that the match is about the two teams and I will try and let the game flow. I hate stopping games every few seconds for little things and I try and let the game flow as much as possible. I know how much a stop start game pees off the players as well as the people who have come to watch. It is not about me, I am really happy if I have not been noticed, because if I am I am doing something wrong. You cannot please everyone, but I feel being open and honest is the best way forward. I can only give decisions on what I believe is a foul. I love it and referee in the supply leagues as well as local Sunday youth leagues.
  17. League and Cup Double please.
  18. It just seems crazy. I went into refereeing because the grass roots football was suffering not having enough not club referees, and the youth game was suffering. I do have to say there are far to many games that are so one sided. As a referee it becomes very hard to stay focused on the game, and I would much prefer to have two evenly matched teams. There has to be a way that they can match the teams up better than they do, as out of over 30 games last season only 2 were won by less than one goal. The development of our players is suffering, and I just feel so sorry for the team getting stuffed. I also have to stick 100% to the rules and play the full amount of time, unless I stopped the match after 20 minutes at 0-6 and got the agreement that we play 25 minutes each way. I also had to give a pen for a clear handball.
  19. West Ham are a bit wonkey at home. I think they will be in the playoffs.
  20. West Ham Cardiff Blackpool and dare I say it..........Brighton.
  21. I am a qualified hertfordshire referee, and today I refereed a County cup 1st round game. I am not sure what the gap between the 2 teams was, but the final score was Melbourn Under 14's 0 St Albans under 14's 20. I just do not understand why in the 1st round and the first lot of games of the new season they would put young lads with such a wide gulf in ability on the same pitch. Why not have the first round where they have the same league level playing each other, just so they can gaina little bit of confidence. What good does this do for the development of our young players and keeping them interested in playing? Yes of course they will have to play the higher teams in the end, but they should have seedings at grass roots football. I found myself trying to delay the restart of the game after each goal, just so they did not score so many. The winning team goalkeeper touched the ball twice in the whole game, so how does it help his game and the defenders around him?
  22. I was at work for Durs Automotive in Woodley Reading!!
  23. Connolly.
  24. I really could not give a dam about about Bournemouth, and the sooner they are in the non-league playing with Cambridge and Easleigh the better. I am loving the little battle with Brighton we are having at the moment, and it looks like they are in it for the long run too. Annoying yes, but is a good little tussle going on. This time next year 1 and 2 in the Premier League? Maybe not!! lol.
