Know what you mean Jeff, re: sugar coated endings. I guess Hollywood doesn't quite know how to do a genuinely proper positive ending [not necessarily happy] anymore.

It's not just him alone. I find there are an awful lot of supposedly talented comedy people out there who just don't make me laugh at all, and yet I hear guffaws from the audience, laughing so hard you'd think they were shot. I get the jokes or situation, but I don't think it's that funny. I suppose some people are more easily pleased.

Started watching The Departed. Try as I might, I can't watch Martin Scorcese films anymore. I've never found his films particularly inviting, in any case. He seems to purposely find and create subject matter that is ugly and twisted, often with a Mafia family basis. And seeing as he would consider himself to be a serious director, I imagine his attitude would be that we take his films seriously too. I suppose I'm biased. Perhaps I take them too seriously.

Yes, don't know where Chez was sitting, as he suggested it was a dive, but Fonte was definitely caught, IMO. I might even look again, on the iPlayer later, just to make sure. Perhaps the Solent commentators were right after all.

Hello. Another delicious Dog thread. If we didn't have TMS, there'd be no Dog, I'm thinking. Of course, you posted it because it is gruesome, but that old women has either been beaten up badly, and lost her eye, or has been in an accident. The maggots are to clear up any remnants and potentially infected tissue. Poor woman is my reaction. Was that the response you were expecting..?

In terms of the table, I was referring to at that particular moment. The BBC have since corrected their data. And yes, I do trust the commentary. What else am I supposed to do, treat it with the upmost suspicion..? How are we going to resolve this..? Tell you what, you lend me your season ticket, because I can't afford to go to matches at the moment.

Thomas injured in training - misses Wembley
St Landrew replied to stockportsaint's topic in The Saints
Yeah that is a shame. He's played his part and should be in next sunday's squad. I really do like Wayne Thomas's cavalier style of playing. It's often hugely risky, but it's bloody entertaining. He's a crowd pleaser, there's no doubt. And that takes some doing at RB. -
Tbf to K-Pax, I think it says more about the mood I was in, rather than the film itself. I remember praising Master & Commander to the skies, and Ponty thought it was very average. He admitted he wasn't being that attentive to it though. That was the same for me with K-Pax. I'll give it a proper go one day.

I would recommend THANK YOU MARKUS. HERE'S TO THE LONG TERM. After all, we wouldn't want him to think Saints fans were too easily satisfied.

Matchday Entertainment - Your Views??
St Landrew replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
I still have vivid memories of hopping from one foot to another, because my feet were cold, and they ached from standing, as I lent over the wall at the Archers or later, the Milton Road end, trying to get some relief from them. On the Tannoy would be Reach Out - I'll Be There, Jimmy Mack or Tears Of A Clown, and a little later Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes, or some other jewel from 1960's pop/motown culture. My pre-match entertainment was reading the matchday programme I'd bought for a shilling. Something that always seems to stick in my mind was turning to the teamsheet page and seeing the opposition with international after international playing, especially Leeds or Liverpool. ManU had a few too. With Saints it was always: Gabriel - Scotland; Paine - England, Davies - Wales. And that was it, every match. Simpler times. -
Reading The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, by Robert Tressell, for the first time. I can understand why publishers didn't want to know, when it was first written, as it isn't a page turner. And for many people, it won't tell them anything they're not already aware of. But what it does do is gather up all those disparate threads of information, opinion and prejudice, and sets them within a simple world and one book. It is clear that Tressell was trying to inform his readers first, rather than equally entertain them, along the way. But he does manage to entertain the reader, and one cannot help be aware also that, although nearly a century has passed, society still manages to avoid the issue of poverty and starvation. Before I read the book [i'm two-thirds of the way through it] I didn't really understand the title, not that I'd given it much thought, tbh. Oh boy, do I get it now, and I wonder how I had missed its meaning before, it is so appropriate. Thoroughly recommended reading. Thanks for suggesting it way back, BTF.

Was listening to Rickie's interview on Solent earlier. I don't know why, but I always find it a bit of a shock when he comes out with his rich scouser accent. Then I laugh to myself at my own reaction. But as you say, CLASS ACT.

So who's received their wembley tickets in the post yet?

What an astonishing reaction..!?! -
So who's received their wembley tickets in the post yet?
St Landrew replied to saints_is_the_south's topic in The Saints
Just in case it hasn't been noticed, Solent broadcast a telephone number, issued by Saints, for people to call if they ahven't received their Wembley tickets by Tuesday: Call 0845 68893191 -
Many a slip between 5 and a 6.

I was jokingly talking about the BBC Football [saints] website putting out erroneous data earlier, but it seems that it is screwed up quite badly, atm. According to it, Pompey are still losing to Hull, with minutes to go. Shame it isn't true. Swindon and Norwich are apparently still playing..! Don't trust their table.

Goes on all the time in the Scotish Premier League. Didn't we do Spuds 4 fixtures in a row, around 2003..? Not in the same season though.
-
Listening to Kris Temple on Solent - I don't think he's a great lover of Pimply. He obviously likes Saints a lot, but isn't he a Cherries fan..?
-
You wouldn't believe it. Apparently the BBC commentators tell lies, and the BBC Saints website puts out erroneous live match data. So we actually haven't a clue what's going on.
