  1. In the light of Puncheon's rather underwhelming performances in our last two games as Adam Lallana's replacement would it make sense to use the loan period to get in a short-term back up? Don't know how long AL is going to be sidelined but it is one crucial area we don't seem to have adequate cover.....or do we? Is there anyone out there we could get? (Not having a go at Puncheon here as I don't think playing wide on the left is his best position)
  2. This apart from the fact I am 56
  3. Lots of Saints' fans say they want PFC to survive albeit in a lower league. Fair enough but tonight they are looking at liquidation which will mean that their results will be expunged and consequently Saints promotion chances will be automatically enhanced by the fact we will only have one point deducted and many of our rivals like West Ham will have 6. So that leads on to the critical question - if it meant Saints being automatically promoted to the Premiership could you accept at the same time that it would mean the total disappearance of P********h once and for all? (Vote A) Or would you rather P survived and we strove for promotion on our own merits and not neccesarily be succesful (Vote B). Easy choice Me? Vote A
  4. Sometimes you have to experience the bad to fully appreciate the good. And every side has its bad days - the 20s 70s 80s and to an extent the 90s were vintage decades for us whereas the 30s and 50s were mediocre ones. Then came the noughties which started well with a new stadium but went rapidly down hill after the FA Cup Final. Perhaps as fans we had become complacent, most of us had only ever known top flight football. Relegation to the 3rd Div (old money I know) shook us to the rafters as did the threat of liquidation. Following any football club these days is a roller coaster soap opera and I have a feeling there are plenty of ups and downs coming our way over the next 10 years. I guess it is about trying to enjoy the ride but you try telling that to the fishy blue mob down the road.
  5. No he didn't but don't let get in the way of a good story and I seem to remember you having a bit of a wobbler and attracting the glances of the stewards. Incidentally Eddie there is a better pub the other end of the High St
  6. With respect Eddie, I acknowledged Lee's running but maintain it led to little. Early days however and I am far from even thinking about writing him off. Yes Puncheon's ball to Lambert was good but that was his only memorable contribution as has been acknowledged by several others on this thread. I am a Puncheon fan incidentally but yesterday was not one of his better days. And if you thought that the team performance was FANTASTIC, then you either took too much advantage of Weatherspoon's High St hospitality or are given to outpourings of irrational hyperbole. It was a professional competent performance and it deserved the three points by some margin but "fantastic" it wasn't.
  7. Tbh I was not wildly impressed yesterday - he made lots of runs and he was energetic and enthusiastic so fair play there but he didn't actually achieve anything other than win a dubious penalty. He lacks composure and consequently missed a sitter too, but I suppose any striker can do that; just look at Sharp's miss at WHU. For me we will get more out of him as an impact player and when Sharp is fully up to speedand Do Prado recovers from malaria (or whatever his illness is) those two will be better starting options...at least for now. Lee will take a while to settle, it must be a helluva job acclimatising from Tokyo to Watford.
  8. Again NA said Lambert rolled his ankle in the first half but was fine and then towards the end rolled it again and that is why he came off. Relieved that Lallana says it is nothing to worry about but like Alpine said it was strange he got taken off. He had already had lengthy treatment about 5 minutes beforehand, so it was obviously troubling him. It was a shame he went off because we had looked good that first half hour but once Adam was subbed we stopped playing football. Glad no midweek game which means hopefully both men will be fit for Saturday's crunch game.
  9. Adkins said last night that Lambert rolled an ankle and Adam has done his groin, so I hope the above post is correct
  10. Unimpressed with Lee and Puncheon - lots of huff and puff but no real impact from either. Watford v poor and we did our job professionally. Worried about Lambert and Lallana's injuries. A good day and a good result but we will have plenty sterner tests.
  11. Thanls MLG - I see they couldn't even be bothered to list our team - arrogant bastards
  12. He played on Tuesday v brighton U21s
  13. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/potential_buyer_says_losing_points_would_put_him_off_1_3524326 The most revealing part of this article are the first 3 words - "self-proclaimed millionaire". Says it all and the fact this "self-proclaimed millionaire" is related to ex-chairman Jim Gregory (who is probably the original catalyst to the decline and inevitable fall of the Farton Empire) does kinda complete the circle. Does anyone remember Gregory's predecessor? John Deacon who tried to buy into Saints, was rebuffed and so went down the A27 with his wallet.
  14. Graham Hiley left the Echo years ago - he is now a part-time lecturer at Solent Uni alongside another grizzled old Echo hack, John May. As for famous people I once watched Saints v Man Utd standing next to Peter Noone from Herman Hermits. This was back in the 70s.
  15. Decent bloke who got caught up in the crossfire
  16. Are you really that thick? Report it mate - comments like that have got no place in football stadia and Matthew le Tissier's reply besmirches a great name.
  17. Guly is a bit of an enigma. FWIW I think its great to have him in the squad but not so sure its so great to have him starting in the actual side - he is just not consistent enough.
  18. Thanks Steve - will let him know, close this as soon as you like
  19. Sorry to start a thread on this but I have a mate who is a Burnley fan who suddenly can make the game. He is overseas and has texted me to see if he can get a ticket in the away end on the day? Can anyone help me he needs to finalise travel arrangements tonight?
  20. Whatever the verdict today you have got to admit that your current plight has got to be totally due to the antics of the 3 musketeers, Harry, Milan and Storrie-teller. They used your club to make sheds loads of dosh, wheeled and dealed to boost personal income (but not the clubs), racking up impossible debts and then they all run for the hills when plod and HMRC start asking questions. Mandaric sold you to a gun runner, Harry left you (twice) with players on massive contracts and Storrie oversaw and encouraged the shambles that has now directly led you to be facing oblivion. And you are laughing at us? - Christ mate if I was you I would be waiting outside the court house today with a 12 bore shotgun. These chancers - whose innocence you are celebrating - have shafted P****y fans so far up their own tail pipes that most of their brains have been squeezed out of their ears.

    Adkins

Our problems started when our settled side became unsettled due to injuries and Lambert's suspension. Hopefully we can begin to settle again, but now there is welcome competition, regular players are going to have to accept they may have a fight on their hands to get selected in the first XI- I am thinking here of Do Prado, Connelly, Barnard, Hooisveld, De Ridder and Tadanari. Talking of Lee I heard he made a few good runs off the ball last night. Well that's great but not if you don't have a midfielder who can find you with an astute pass and, at present, with Cork, SAchneiderlin and Hammond all being so one dimensional we just don't have that sort of player. One reason our forwards sometimes are accused of lacking penetration. Oh for a Jimmy Case who was also a leader on the pitch, something else presently lacking. Talk of Adkins's job being on the line are ridiculous. I reckon he has built up enough brownie points with NC for at least another 12 months.
  22. Great if Reeves fits the bill but imo Schneiderlin, Hammond and Cork don't. The midfield is the problem area for me.
  23. Wasn't at the game so not qualified to give a verdict on Lee but I will say this. No point having a forward who makes great runs off the ball if we have no one in midfield to find him with a defence splitting ball. IMO our big problem is midfield where all our players are much of a likeness. Very good at inter-passing on the half way line but put a goal in front of them and they freeze.
  24. If Cork and Schneiderlin are involved then in my opinion it is nowhere near our best X1. These two are not compatible. Pretty and pleasing on the ball they maybe, but incisive and game changing they are not. And hereby lies our current woes.
