Do you want Nathan Jones to Manage Southampton Football Club?
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Rivers's topic in The Saints
Agree but I think they think this guy could get us back if it happens. Don’t think they want relegation perse but perhaps regard us as a natural yo yo club? I dunno I am blundering around in the dark because I just don’t get this guy’s attraction. -

The cynic in me has SR appointing someone who can get a tune out of average players in the Championship which is where they see us developing young players to sell on at a profit. I don’t think their vision is us competing in the PL with an outside chance of a Cup or European qualification. I think we are their money making club and Jones is part of that plan. I know this is slightly bizarre but for the life of me I can’t explain this very underwhelming appointment. Just hope I am very very wrong. -

I’ve always been prepared to give all new managers a chance (except Wigley) who was such an obvious Lowe mistake) but I really do have misgivings about Jones. We need a proven manager who has experience of PL survival as we are in a perilous situation. Jones will be literally learning on the job and that’s not going to work. Sean Dyche (yes I know far from perfect) would be a short term solution. I just hope the Board know what they are doing and I am not sure they do. -
There’s nothing wrong with him being religious. But after reading this article would you be happy with a manager who consults God on footballing matters? https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/christianity-football-faith-nathan-jones-luton-town-137163

The thing that worries me the most about Jones is that he is a bible thumper who is not averse to bringing his faith up in press conferences. Not against religion but it’s something that doesn’t fit with football (or politics). His lack of top-flight experience and his tanking at Stoke are a worry I would be prepared to put to one side, but all considered I think this could be conceivably be our worst appointment since Branfoot, if not of all time. Very depressed right now.

Just got this from a mate who does corporate Hi mate Hope you are a well I’m not sure what’s going on in the board room, as yet again not one of the new board in directors box yesterday! The mess we are in you would think at least one of them would be in attendance -
Yes it’s very amateurish and a bit of a worry we can’t even efficiently dispense with a manager in a way that gives him a bit of respect (which he deserves). For me there are other culprits who should shoulder blame. Semmens definitely. He tied his colours to Ralph’s mast, admirable loyalty but wrong shout. Blackmore too must shoulder blame for losing his impartiality in the interests of feathering his own nest. He has not serviced his listeners interests. SD’s failure to deliver a striker has been the biggest failure and Ralph can feel really aggrieved there was no plan B (unlike Leeds who acted promptly when the Gakpo deal foundered and have since benefited from the young player they signed). I am not confident SD are in total control nor are capable of finding the right replacement which means relegation and the likely departure of the young promising players we signed. Jesus what a mess. Oh for some leadership right now

Well he gave me the heads up re Mark Hughes coming in quite a while before it happened, but who knows how genuine this is. He's not a bullshitter but of course someone could be spinning him a line. I've got mixed feelings about Nuno. Good job at Wolves (agree with what you say re agent) but a big flop at Spurs. He's in Saudi at present so wouldn't cost much to buy him out. Ralph is making some strange statements recently almost as if he can see the end coming, but knowing us we will probably win our next 3 matches and the whole cycle is up and running again.

Nuno Santo is a name the dogs on the street are saying.
-
Spot on. And maybe that’s where the real problem lies.
-
Almost funny if it wasn’t so credible. My how we have sunk. Arrogant fans laughing at themselves? Surely not.
-
That’s a hard hitting post but there’s a fair amount of truth in it. As the days go by my faith in SD diminishes.

We’re you the lone bloke in the Dell car park after the Port Vale cup-tie, waving a banner with “Branfoot must stay” on it?

Southampton 1-1 Arsenal - Match Thread
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Saint Matty 76's topic in The Saints
I thought Adam Armstrong had a good game. Got through a lot of work with no support so surprised he’s being criticised on here. There’s a player in there somewhere and with encouragement he could still be a useful player for us. Thought Perraud came of age today. Lots of forward runs and solid defending. Good all round performance which has lifted fans but we need to carry it on at SP next week and build on it but so often we are one step forward and then two steps back. It’s always good to send London aristocracy back to the capital with their tail between their legs. -
So you are assuming we’ll still be in it?
-
Got the Cortese bit spot on though didn’t I?
-
No need for the patronising reply. Yes my comment about working it out for yourself was a little unnecessary, I apologise for that it wasn’t meant to be sarcastic but it did sound it.
-
He means it is terrible the result could possibly mean a stay of execution for the manager. I am surprised you couldn’t work that out for yourself. Yes the 3 points will undoubtedly come in handy but when the bigger picture is taken into consideration the an ugly win could distort or cover up a deep seated problem.

Absolutely amazing how an ugly win can change perspectives. The manager has to be judged not on his last game but over a period of time. For me 2022 is a good benchmark to gauge him on and our appalling home record in that period. Yes we are all thankful we added 3 valuable points to our haul because we all know we are going to need them but the fact remains we are playing dreary negative football, we lose more than we win and aren’t really showing signs of an upturn anytime soon. A defeat in our next two matches will have all those making positive noises this morning gnashing their teeth again. We are going around in ever diminishing circles with this manager and the odd good result should not be allowed to camouflage the fact.
-
How can anyone think that after 13/66 home points? Or just 3 wins from 22 home games? It’s utterly indefensible and worse than anything Hughes and Pellegrino produced. People who want him to stay must be utterly delusional or dangerous cultists.
-
It’s getting tedious now. We all know (like Truss) he will go soon but the powers to be are clueless as to the how and when. Bit of leadership called for and every day Ralph stays my opinion of SD diminishes a tad. I am hoping they have a cunning plan.
-
Not sure this is particularly relevant or significant but I gather none of the new owners were in the Directors Box yesterday (or that’s what I’ve been told)! Perhaps there just as fed up as the rest of us? 3 home wins in 22 home games hardly gets the blood running.
