Good question. Obviously this is where the FL will hit the club with further penalties for not being able to field a team. Usual FL policy of being reactive not proactive in punishment to not look like the bad guys

I involuntarily at the many stupid comments on The Neil Allen Show, but I honestly feel sorry for those trust members piling in £1000 (right?) to try to make a difference, if the money just goes to Chinny. Big crooks and small personal economies just doesn't go well together, so a lot of people willing to take action for their club could see their best efforts reduced to a sidenote in Chinny's accounts. Another reason for them to wish for the cleanest cut possible to increase the chances of a healthy club in the future... Unless I'm totally missing the big picture? (has happened before )

Sam Magri is the new Olly Lancashire. Bright talent thrown in at the deep end - will lose all confidence and his career will wither away... With such careful nurturing of their talents it's a real surprise they feel the need to associate themselves so closely with Alex O.-C.

Gawd he is a truly annoying footballer. Would like to see him aboard though

The score doesn't matter. Pompey, having claimed Gibraltar as their fief, won over a lot of hearts tonight... Edit: I'll leave the above be to display my lack of English skills. I happily thought the word "fief" was pronounced like the number five. I'll be back once I have a joke that actually works

This is a game of 'Balram says' that has gone horribly wrong. Balram says "turn on your own players" and everybody does it, they are all dancing to his tune now...

So that's his future wages off the table, but the transfer money goes to Derby and he is probably still owed his deferred wages...

Besides the Hoddle issue, didn't that one come from the Richards transfer (RIP) and Lowe's North London Yobbos comment?

Good luck with your attempt - it's like trying to stop an avalanche with a ski stick... or block the Nile with a twig...

The internet is swarmed with that particular meme... but it's the first time in ages I really laughed out loud watching it. Intelligent and witty - I bow in admiration

It's my basic approach to supporters of any club. Somewhere at Fratton Park is a bloke who went to that same concert as you in '97, can also recite old Monty Python scetches, also loves Czech beer, also plays Sunday league football, also hates wearing a tie, also likes to take the family to see his local team etc. The only difference is that he wears a blue shirt, you wear a red... Does he really have six fingers or ****s his sister? Fair enough with some banter but don't truly believe it for a second. I grant it that I may be totally wrong as some clubs seem to have a special reputation. Would the above be the case for e.g. Millwall? Are they basically the same as everyone else with a small group of nutters giving them a terrible reputation? I dunno...

Given that I have no geographical ties to Southampton or Portsmouth, the rivalry is difficult for me to understand (other than as another derby rivalry as seen all around the globe). I've seen it discussed on here so many times that I will merely accept that it's one of those things where you just "had to be there" to truly understand it. Reading the comments sections of the News articles and the chat below the Gib stream I'm astounded by the level of hatred displayed by both sets of fans. In that respect I find it admirable that you actually confront the myths and confirm some while dismissing others - we need to rise above the level of their worst fans ... Given their desperate situation one could perhaps excuse some of them for being more erratic or confrontational than usual. Facing the liquidation of their club is a highly emotional matter, so we cannot expect them to be as cynical (or even just open to debate) as us nutjobs. Here I'm not talking about the majority of fans that for every club will probably just be in blind defense - we're talking about their PTS equivalents, those worth having a discussion with. Maybe it merely reflects badly on me, but when we faced the penalty in League One I was absolutely convinced that it was Mawhinney alone who held a grudge and wanted to punish us unfairly - soon after I accepted that the FL simply closed a loophole retroactively. Frustrating situation (especially taking in consideration the role of Barclays *grrr*), but my perspective returned once the anger had receded. So once the dust settles and the wounds are less raw, maybe the sensible fans will be more open to rewrite their own modern history. One could hope... Pompey as a club seem to be driven by blind desire to elevate as rapidly as possible regardless of the means. The officials of the club show no remorse or understanding of the consequences their actions have towards those putting their faith in the club. That Ally McCoist statement was a real eye-opener for me: he may have meant it wholeheartedly or he may have written it through gritted teeth - what matters is that he put it out there in public. Birch, Appy and the rest of the gang refuse to follow any decency and keep exploring all desperate options at any time. Hard to blame the bestest for having a hard time cutting trough that endless propaganda coming from the club they love - especially when they keep being told what they like to hear: it's everyone else's fault, we're better than the rest, we'll keep fighting this injustice all the way etc. Were we served the same crap from Mark Fry back then? I honestly can't remember... So, a load of waffle from me about nothing, sorry. Just wanted it out there for the record - I'll happily join in the request for a proper punishment fo Pompey (liquidation please), and I think a lot of their fans reflect badly on their club. But I do feel for those sensible fans who have witnessed this drama unfold with little way to intervene... On that note: In the larger scheme of things their trust may be dwarfed by the Chanrais, Gadaymaks and Antonovs, but at least they should be given credit for their efforts. One can only hope that they could instil a more humble, sane and economically sensible approach to running a football club than what has been on display from PFC for the last decade...

Thanks for the replies - makes sense that we are in no danger of having to pay double fee for Davis...

No comments on this? I'll try fishing with a few keywords: Rupert Lowe, Skates, Alpine, Burley, Puncheon, Nuns, Guly, Mong, Cortese, Telfer, Poyet, Lundekvam, Forecast...

Here's some speculation, I can't get my head around: Who are we paying? I assume it's the newco. What if the liquidators of oldco reaches the conclusion that the players must be bought from oldco, could we end up paying twice for Davis?

On one hand we must appreciate that they are trying to prepare for the possibility of survival while trying to keep expenses down. On the other hand, ... just ...

Like them or not, at least they don't claim to be the best fans in the world, even though they got a rather good average of 20.000 last season (5000 more than the bestest) - http://www.emfootball.co.uk/attend.html Seems like a solid basis for a Championship club whatever we might think of their manager...

I don't know quite how to break this to you but... ummm... this letter is not unfamiliar to avid readers of this saga...

Nice quote: "As Collins said to Clarke, ‘It’s too easy for clubs to rack up debts, go into administration, walk away from them and carry on playing and there’s not really a downside to this.’ How that makes them ‘a force for good’ in their communities is difficult to fathom." While he clearly doesn't find it justifiable that Saints fans claim that Pompey fans should have seen it coming, I think this SJMaskell has written an interesting piece. Sure we may discard it with a handy "it's been covered in this thread ages ago", but I still think it's quite something that a Pompey fan is able to take a long hard look at the mismanagement of his own club and not automatically go in defensive mode...

Absolutely. The lovely people at the FL explain it quite well: Under the new CVA these claims would be further compromised to less than one penny in the pound without creditors having the opportunity to indicate whether they find this acceptable. This is because the claims rest in the liquidation of the previous company and the liquidator of that company has voted to accept the terms of the new CVA. Therefore, the Board were faced with the prospect of numerous unsecured creditors receiving less than one penny in the pound, without having the opportunity to indicate their satisfaction (or otherwise) in the normal way. In the Board's view, these arrangements do not respect a key principle of The Football League's Insolvency Policy (as described above in b). It's somehow similar to our minus 10: yes you found a loophole but we'll adjust the rules to punish you how we deem it fit

http://www.bold.dk/snak/index.php?action=entrys&cat=5& Mind you, I'm not being confrontational over there - it's a fine line between having interest in another club and ruining their thread. So no WTFILN etc. ;-) Oh, and a crappy comment from me about Kanu before the witch hunt started

I'm running a Saints thread on the largest Danish footy board where there's a Pompey fan running a thread too. He very much gets it, so there's no animosity between us. What makes recent events easier to discuss with him (and quite possibly Gillon and other sensible fans) is that he has wanted the crooks out for a long time - no matter the cost. His focus is not what league they compete in, if they get a points deduction, if they are competitive etc. - he looks at the future perspectives. Since January he's been in favour of a Phoenix club. Rather more interesting fella to chat to than the usual "everybody hates us, why are we being punished twice, let's get more players in" type of fans.
