FA Cup Third Round - Alfreton/Walsall (h)
John Boy Saint replied to Pamplemousse's topic in The Saints
I just had a steward come along the line, counting folk ahead of me, then said to me "you might not get a ticket!". 😁 Anyone remember those days at the Dell just for a normal game? -
FA Cup Third Round - Alfreton/Walsall (h)

Apart from the game up at theirs midweek when their keeper or one of theirs players got away with a naughty tackle on Schneiderlin that saw him side lined for a few games. Might not have been the keeper, that view might have been skewed by his performance to keep a clean sheet that seemed to down to the fact that being 1-0 up if he let one in he would never see his family again, just like their defence (featuring Ollie Lancashire!) played like they had been told "you concede one, you'll be facing a firing squad up against the gym wall out the back" - We battered them and they held firm. All that aside I thought the whole club was nicely set up as a family friendly local club, the stuff to do and up coming stuff on the calendar in the match programme was impressive, they appeared to be doing all they could to get folk through the turnstiles despite being up against local bigger boys, Villa, Birmingham, WBA, Wolves. That certainly was a nice moment @Turkish even in the game - we were putting them to the sword and their fans were bouncing about because they were getting news from the game that had their fate in its hand, I seem to recall "we are going up" being alternated with "you are staying up" whilst the game was still on. Final whistle their players just collapsed on the pitch with relief and were instantly engulfed by 1000's of us loons. -
His brother Chris won’t be happy

Well we all know thats a lie after he said Matt Le Tiss was lazy.

See he’s up for some serious ribbing in training tomorrow - those dodgy Baines on Shetland have a lamb named after him. 😁 Thats solid fuel in a team environment

When Mrs JBS, who as mentioned before, will seek out footie on the TV over some inane more girl stuff, turned over to see how Nigel Farrage got on eating bugs, penis and arse, pretty much sums up the game..........................................backed up by Pudsey getting more screen time on Friday than I'd expect from her.

Thanks for digging that out - if the quality was that of today I could probably stop and scroll frame by frame spot my 15 year old self up against the wall at the front of the Milton Road end jumping up and down cheering like a loon - even more because of my then hero Phil Boyer bagging a brace. Monday morning at school in north Hampshire the amount of kids, and teachers, asking "were you at the game on Saturday".

The term Legend is a very well worn term these days, almost a throw away line. In the case of Lawrie McMenemy, with Saints, he is the true meaning of the term with all its lustre. As @Miltonaggro just said they were indeed the absolute best times to be a Saints fan. We feared no one and often bloodied the big boys noses, European Champions Forest getting smashed 4-1 on a Saturday afternoon springs to mind, a glorious day to be inside the Dell. He got the chemistry right, seasoned pros blended with wet behind the ears nippers, along with something many today, especially in the stands, don't seem to appreciate: "a good team needs to made up of Road Sweepers and Violinists". Another of Lawries nuggets about Saints fans that he drilled into the players, "Hampshire folk are quite gentile by nature, you give them something on the pitch to shout about, and they will become the loudest in the land to back you up". Its always great seeing him on a matchday walking past the store, acknowledging everyone who says hello, happy to shake the hands of "old boys" who were there in the stands. Kids asking, as he walks past, noting the attention, "who is he?" their Mums, Dads, Grandads, or Grannys - "Thats Lawrie McMenemy.................".

Been a while since last "where are they now (posters)" thread?

I recall a post where Alpine and Glasgow/(Heisenberg?) were having a right ding dong about something, possibly in the off season, batting posts back and forth, then it was like - hang on! the point of view just flipped - I butted in and commented "It must be weird and hard work to post as 2 people and argue with yourself!" Sometime that same day I got a PM from Glasgow asking me politely, but firmly, to edit my post: which I thought was weird. Not surprised Dubai became Polski Phil - I would have followed his other half wherever she told me to go too. Wasn't Bearsys "wingman" on many posts Tokyo Saint Someone else not seen on here for years, not sure she spent much time after the original switch to Saintsweb - Slipped Halo her mate was Stellabird - I'm still in touch with Slipped. -
Those that attended certainly got their monies worth

Charlie just made it Swindon 3 Aldershot 7 90 +2!
-
Think they heard you @VectisSaint Swindon get 2 back No wonder no goal in our game, they are all down the M4
-
Maybe Aldershot can sell us a spare goal Swindon 0 - Aldershot 7 now!
-
Just as an aside - Swindon must have been out on the lash last night because they are getting absolutely hammered at home 0-6 in the FA Cup by Aldershot!!
-
Apparently he was canny with his contract too, in that no players, on silly money per week, were being paid more than him.
-
He featured in a "funny" Halloween video on Facebook yesterday with all the first team players going to lunch or wherever together at Staplewood
-
They'll get exactly what this Saudi Pro League set out to achieve - the 2034 World Cup. Hardly a surprise
-
Last 2 games I thought he looked tidy, no frills just does his job with out inducing a sharp intake of breath like Manning does.
-
Che and Adam might have challenged that 🤪

Us and Stoke pinged for the handbags after the final whistle. Stoke £12,000 - Saints £8,000 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67196117

Wake up these aren’t the minnows you are use to playing in qualifiers - hot knife through butter

Thats what most jornos were saying yesterday, that 21 point deduction holed him below the waterline. In one piece the whole Rooney coming in is purely down to him having a bigger public circus than Eustace, that Birmingham can ride on the back of.
-
Interesting read from someone who says little in public.

Tottenham and Arsenal could both be a good test to see where we are (if they are both taking this seriously). Saints v Arsenal Thursday 23rd November - weirdly 18:30 KO Saints v Spurs Thursday 24th January - 19:45

Seems the Womens League Cup has slipped past us - Saints beating Bristol City on penalties- which gives us 2 points (1 for the draw 1 for the win on penalties) sitting second in group D behind Spurs who walloped Reading 6-0
