  1. Having spent time in "the Deep South" of Tennessee I can safely say that the term is plain and simply racist. Just as you have described the two terms above as being offensive, so is the "fried chicken" insult. It's up there alongside im struggling to understand why some people are struggling with a simple concept. Search the web for the history of the insult, how it's been used and why it is deemed offensive.
  2. Many people agree it is not fair and equal, hence why the Labour amendment looks to end this anomaly. I haven't heard anyone who was pushing for equality of marriage say they don't support the extension of civil partnerships. And as for homosexuality, marriage and the church, well there are different opinions and interpretations. In this link a prominent minister argues for the acceptance of gay marriage and interprets the bible somewhat differently than you have. http://www.christianitymagazine.co.uk/sexuality/stevechalke.aspx
  3. Two loons who are quickly and unequivocally condemned by leaders of their own faith, local community leaders as well as many grass roots Muslims, Londoners, immigrants et al and those heady days of Mo Farah, Ennis, Ohoruogu, Ogogo are soon forgotten. Former Conservative Chairman, Lord Ashcroft's recent survey shed some light on the UK's feelings towards multiculturalism and made pleasant reading. Fortunately, extremists of all political and religious persuasion are in a very tiny minority and the overwhelming majority of UK citizens are wise enough not to indulge in knee jerk sermons and retributions. http://www.politics.co.uk/blogs/2013/04/19/poll-reveals-huge-public-support-for-multiculturalism http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/apr/22/multiculturalism-won-uk-move-on
  4. But doesn't that just show us that that resentment, hatred and fear is totally irrational and actually just playing in to the hands of the extremists on one side and those on the other who also benefit from the fires being stoked?
  5. Never seen it!! Was going to put Westboro Baptist Church in there at first, but although they are a vile depiction of Christianity, they aren't really guilty of murders and assassinations etc! Looking at some on this thread, then I'm afraid I have to say that these 2?? Murdering scum seem to have got the reaction they were hoping for.
  6. Jihadi extremists are to Islam what the Ku Klux Klan is to Chrisianity.
  7. Muslims from the local Somali community have already been at the murder scene to lay flowers, the Muslim Council of Britain have already issued a release condemning the acts of murder and Twitter and other social media are full of Muslims saying not in my name. http://www.mcb.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2333:pr-template&catid=40:press-release
  8. It is indeed a side issue, but an issue that as Peter Tatchell points out needs to be addressed. The way I understand it, the Loughton wrecking amendment that was pretending to resolve this issue was defeated and a Labour amendment that addresses the real issue accepted with a view to extending civil partnerships to heterosexuals in the not too distant future. As for why some heterosexuals desire a civil partnership, then it is claimed that for some they feel marriage has sexist and patriarchal traditions.
  9. Is it just me, or is giving these sickos airtime by playing that video (a) exactly what they wanted to achieve and (b) somewhat voyeuristic??
  10. I don't think we shold allow ourselves to be dragged down in to their disgusting, vile and appalling gutter. These sick and misguided cowards want us to hate them and call for revenge. We need to show our moral fibre and not allow this.
  11. It wasn't that long that British born terrorists were indiscriminately blowing up innocent civilians & assassinating people whilst English men like Jan Taylor and Patrick Hayes were blowing up Harrods. And gang crime moves with the times from the English East End hard men, through the yardies, triads etc. Our biggest threat is currently from British born jihadis. Of course the "influence" and their "cause" emanates from issues abroad, but we haven't got Al Qaeda running amok in this country.
  12. http://www.petertatchellfoundation.org/partnerships/straight-civil-partnerships-defeated A sentiment that Peter Tatchell seems to agree with. Not normally his biggest fan, but he has called it right here with regards equality.
  13. Always thought this season would be about survival, so more than happy to have survived. Was worried how players would make the step up, particularly when two seasons previously they were up against Dagenham, Hartlepool et al. Some players managed to step up, others progressed faster than I thought, whilst some were found out. Inexperience and perhaps being in awe of our opponents caught us out sometimes, as perhaps did having a relatively thin squad. Think the term "mid table" flatters us, so next season would like us to consolidate properly in mid table. Need to strengthen the first team, not just buy squad players.

    Chaplow

Such sad news and as someone who has only recently become a dad I can't imagine the pain he and is family must be going through. My thoughts are with you, your wife and family.
  15. Where did anyone say this behaviour is acceptable in "their" culture or country???
  16. Despite his protestations to the contrary, he has his eye on the leadership & consequently I think you have to look carefully at what he is saying to discern as to whether its (a) genuine or (b) a play to the audience. Like some of the things he has said on education (rigour, high standards, no excuses etc) and particularly like his recruitment/training push with regards Social Workers (Frontline). However, I do fear that most of his bigger picture stuff is influenced both by his own narrow experiences at school, coupled with a desire to be saying the "right" thing to impress the Mail and a narrow right wing in order to bolster his own popularity.
  17. Would be disappointed if Cortese left, he's certainly been the driving force behind our resurgence in recent years and will be a tough act to follow. But that said, big names, be they managers, players, coaches, whatever, have come and gone over the years and I'm sure we'll get by. He'll have to go at some point (our future does not end at the same time as his departure, whenever that may be), and whilst I be disappointed his tenure might be cut short, SFC will not come to a halt with his departure. How about being really ambitious and get David Gill in who has just left United????
  18. We are 100% safe, as if Wigan beat Villa then we will finish above Villa.
  19. Done with a game to spare, very pleased. Saturday can now be a day of relaxation and enjoyment. May target for the year was purely survival so more than happy. For next season would take a mid table Swanseaesque position.
  20. Forest away in the 84 Cup Run. Mackerel being waved around, Moran scoring (again), escorted out of Loughborough and booking a game with Portsmuff in the next round.
  21. At this rate UK Gold will have nothing to broadcast!
  22. Steve Clarke had us sussed and playing with three up top meant we just couldn't handle the their forwards. They won most of the midfield battles and their defence kept Lambert and Rodrigues at bay. In short, beaten by a better team, who were better set up. Didn't help ourselves with some very below par performances.
  23. I agree, you only have to go back to Rodrigues diving, Dyer's thieving etc to see how we end up with selective morals (and most clubs fans are the same). But back to Suarez, if Liverpool have any pride they should ban him internally before the FA get to him.
  24. Fair play to them and Eddie Howe has done a magnificent job. Always impressed with what he says and how he carries himself. hope they enjoy next season
  25. I was at Upton Park (was it the game that Phil Parkes took out Danny Wallace and was about to be sent off only off the Lino to give offside??). Tannoy announcer was updating at half time and at end of game saying game delayed due to crowd trouble and at least one dead. Most on the terrace assumed fighting and perhaps a stabbing, and was only when in car on A13 heading out of London that we started to hear the accounts on the radio. Really subdued drive home, remembering how we were stood on the same terrace 5 years earlier in a Cup Qtr Final (smoke bombs and mackerel). Straight out to the Dog & Duck for a works bash hearing snippets throughout the night as people would arrive late with the latest reports. Sure at one point it was thought to be over 100 deaths. Disgusting that it has taken 20+ years for the truth to come out and just feel so sad for those who lost loved ones and who then had to suffer of being lied to by the establishment.
